Infotainment and reboot

So I’ve got a question, sometimes the infotainment screen and the lower screen lock up when I give Alexa a command and it needs a reboot to fix it which I’m used to since my teslas would occasionally have a similar issue. The Tesla you could just hid in the two buttons on the steering wheel and it would do a reboot but from what I’ve seen the only way to reboot the lucid is to put a turn signal on leave the car to shutdown for about a minute and then reenter the vehicle. This works but it’s a pain to pull off the road and go through this , am I missing an easier way to reboot without have to stop or get out of the car?

You are not missing anything. I wish there was an easier way.

One of the things Lucid should have done in the early days is get an OTA out to reset the system from inside the car. Knowing the software was that buggy they should’ve done a quick fix patch to allow people to reset easily.

Can’t do that while it’s running as a VM. Would likely mean rebooting the entire VM, which is the car.

My guess is the 2.0 update is likely to separate out the service (hopefully into containers, but not necessarily) at which point rebooting just one or two services gets WAY easier and then they can make it easier from a UX perspective by adding a button combo or something.

While it’s running in a VM you wouldn’t be able to easily do anything of the sort.

So .. this (BSOD) on the infotainment and 'dead' pilot panel while I was driving.

3 events happened almost simultaneously for the above: nav recalculating + alexa to play songs from tidal + an incoming phone call. Woof and the screens went into coma.

Luckily we were near the n'hood & pulled over. Got out of the car. Locked it. Waited for about 20 seconds, We got back in. And back to 'normal'. (Normal = about 30 seconds or so to 'wake up'; and then alexa initiazling; and then nav coming up.).

I really hope this 2.0 install is the cat's meow. Seen multiple posts and claims from Lucid, that this 'big update' will resolve a LOT of issues; but no idea how they have been categorizing it. Time will tell.

Tesla does.

It will be simplified. I strongly suspect the reason has to do with the way the software is a VM at the moment, as opposed to being separated out into containers or services.

I suspect it’s only a matter of time.

I agree. My only worry is that since a hard reset bypasses the software to force a reboot, adding it may require a firmware update, not a simple software update? Doable, but might require a trip to the service center. I hope not.

The fact they shipped this car with no hard reset is a real head scratcher. I can’t think of any software driven device I’ve ever owned that doesn’t have some sort of magic secret button press that resets the machine instantly.

Unless the underpinnings for it are there, and it’s just not connected for some reason? I have no idea. I’m not a firmware engineer.

It does, it's the key card version...it's not an elegant solution though.

Polestar 2 does. Hold the screen button for 10 seconds or so and the system reboots even while driving.

It only took Polestar 2+ years to just recently introduce CarPlay via OTA Update. I hope Lucid can beat that under 2 years. Tesla and Rivian still not even have CarPlay.

@TrikinCurt and @rlhyde just signed up this forum posting they are selling Lucid Air soon bc lack of CarPlay. What ballers! Buying Air without research and dump exotic car like flipping pages in a book. A true die-hard Apple fans!

CarPlay makes driving enjoyable. These are expensive cars. They should be equipped to handle CarPlay.

Sorry, we all knew there was no CarPlay when the vehicle was produced. Don’t want to get into an argument and sorry you are not happy with the car. I have cars that I use CarPlay with and those I don’t. It makes zero difference to me, but I guess we all have our preferences.

Well, lucky for you, it should be here in the next major update. Alternatively, sell the car and re-buy it when it has CarPlay in tow.

Can I live without CarPlay? Sure but I really would prefer not to have to do so. To be able to stream Apple Music (which has a greater library of Dolby Atmos tracks than Tidal) and utilize Waze as well as some of the other features would be wonderful. Hopefully coming soon maybe with 2.0??

Agreed. I would prefer to have CarPlay. I also knew the car didn't have it before I bought it.

I didn't know. I Did make some assumptions about features that a $169,000 luxury car should have, and that was my mistake.
