Has anyone replaced tires on Lucid Air?

I have 21 inch wheels so tires are pretty weak I would say

I am planning to switch to 20 inch soon

Do you have the Dream 21" wheels or the GT 21" wheels?

I'm wondering if the Dream wheels are a bit stronger. Lucid lists them as forged but does not say the same about the other wheels in the lineup (although I assume the Sapphire wheels will be forged).

With techniques such as flow forming (which give cast wheels some of the strength of forging), true forged wheels have become increasingly rare from automakers, even in premium models. For example, none of the MB S Class wheels (including the AMG) offer forged wheels any more, whereas they did a couple of years ago. Even with the Maybach 12-cylinder, only two of the four wheel choices are forged. Likewise with BMW. Even the X7 M Series lists its wheels only as "light alloy", not forged.

I've had three tires replaced. First one was a nail in sidewall and Lucid picked up car and charged me for the tire only. The last three months I've had two tires replaced due to sidewall bulging after hitting potholes . I have a GT that is approx. 10 months old on 21" wheels. My local tire shop charges me $535 a tire installed.

If we change to 20 inch, it will help a lot? I just found bulge on my tire and it will be 2nd replacement in last 6 months which is pretty high maintenance cost. :/

In 16k miles I have replaced 4 21” Pirellis for side wall bulges. All done by Lucid and I was only charged for 1 of the 4.

I have a BMW 760 on 20” wheels with 2k miles and no issues. The BMW is only 200 lbs lighter than the Air so very comparable.
Some of it is suspension, the BMW ride is noticeably smoother than the Air and I think a lot of it is the additional side wall flex of the higher profile 20” tire.

Seems most of the tire issue posts are 21s. I’ve owned multiple cars with 21” low profile tires.

I’ve had other tires get cuts in sidewall from pot holes and need to be replaced.

These 4 tires on the Lucid are the only time I’ve had side wall bubbles.

I am going to stick with the 21s, but will go with Michelins when I replace all 4 tires.

Hopefully they will perform better.

Currently the Michelin Pilot Sport are XL rated and right at the edge for the weight of the Air.
The Sapphire has Pilot Sport 4S that are made for the Air and marked LM1 at 265/35R20 in Front and 295/30R21 Rear.

The DE has 245/35R21 front and 265/35R21 rear

I‘m hoping Michelin expands the size offerings to go after all Lucid’s with 21” rims.

If not I might try the XL.

We have not put the Lucid up on the lift yet in the shop. I’m not sure if the wheel flares on the Sapphire are really needed or just for looks.

Maybe at the expense of range, we could put a little more tire on the DE .

Thank you for the info. I have the Pilot Sport 4S tires on my DB9 and I really have been enjoying them. I am looking forward to Michelin offering a set of tires for the 21” Lucid wheels.

According to Tire Rack, the Michelin 4S comes in HL form.

That is correct. It was the only tire available in an all-season that would fit in Nov 2021. They have performed well and have had no issues.

I was just told by Lucid service team that it will be customer pay for side wall bulge once over 600 mile. It looks like the Pirelli warranty is useless.

Tires are generally not warranty by car manufacturers. Your best bet is to go to your local tire shop that is an authorized dealer and get a road hazard warranty. Discount tire will do this for you.

Thanks!! I just called Discount tire but they told me I need to reach out to Pirelli or Lucid if I didn’t buy tires in their shop

Like to know if any one needed to replace their tires on their cars ? If so,

1. Why it was replaced?

2. Did the Tire Warranty cover?

3. If they have to pay, what was the total price per tire for installation?

4. Was it done by Lucid Service or otherwise?

5. Was it done on roadside or at home?

6. Was the tire balanced?

Very disappointed in Lucid. Told by tow truck driver it is a common problem with Lucid 21 inch wheels.

Never had a problem with Tesla--other than poor service--even though I dont like the company.

A number of years ago I had a tire blowout on a Toyota. The dealership did the same thing...sent me to the Firestone store (it was a Bridgestone tire).

Call customer care for your options; but typically:

If you want it done at a Lucid service center, at least a two-week wait everywhere besides the northeast.

Your best bet is Discount Tire and America's tire

As of July, the tire warranty has been modified and now MOST likely it will be out of pocket.

Discount tire and America's tire are helpful with filing Pirelli claims however; let me know if you'd like me to send a copy of your Pirelli warranty for your reference.

Definitely not true, just read all of the posts about Lucid going above and beyond to take care of customers.

Keep your tires at 45-46 psi and you will have much less risk.

The best was to ensure that you don’t get any more bubbles is to replace all 4 and get a warranty through Discount Tire. Once I did this I stopped getting bubbles.

Lucid didn’t make those tires. If it’s a bad design, that falls on the shoulders of the tire manufacturer. Where are you located? These are summer tires and if you are using them in cold weather, they will be more prone to problems.

You can insulate yourself from the problem by getting a warranty from Discount Tire. I did so, but have not used it. My car has 16,000 miles on the original 21 inch tires with no issues.

Did any of the cars you listed as owned have 35 series sidewalls ? You can't compare different tire sidewalls.... 35s need to be watched.

I run my Pirelli P-Zero 245/35/R21 and 265/35/R21 summer tires at 45 psi (cold), and check them weekly with a tire gauge.
The low sidewall tires need to be kept filled. They are much more sensitive to even a few pounds low. If you ever ridden a road bicycle, you will know that keeping the tire pressures "hard" reduces punctures / blowouts.

I run the 19" 45 series Pirellis at the recommended 49 psi. I never trust the TPMS. Get a couple of pencil tire gauges and keep them in the door pockets. Do a walk -around before you fly (as any good pilot does).

Just swapped in the 19" A/S Pirellis that came with the car. TMPS is working again. Yes, they are much smoother than the 21" summer performance tires.

I put about 7000 miles on the 21" 35 series Pirellis. Wear is even and surprisingly low ( I used P-Zero Rossos on my VR and they wore out at ~20,000 mi.). No bubbles. No issues. Great handling. I run them at 45psi cold. Check weekly.
