Gravity; SUV or Minivan

Alternatively perhaps it's just a personal preference that some of us don't like the rectangle -on-wheels shape of a minivan. The practicality over all else approach.
Cool. Gravity has an extremely low Cd, meaning it is definitionally not a “rectangle on wheels,” as that would have insane drag. Perhaps you’re thinking of a Ford or R1S.

You ascribe it instead to "self image" which is just silly. Cars are frequently purchased for aesthetics as much as practicality.
Aesthetics as a representation of how you’d like to present yourself to the world. That’s… self-image.

You can't deny that the styling of the gravity objectively sucks and it looks just like a minivan. That will hurt them.
Sure I can. You’re wrong. Your opinion, that it looks like a minivan, is not one I hold, and no, I don’t think it will hurt them.

It’s a gorgeous SUV. It’s okay if you don’t agree.

Dude. It's a minivan. Full stop.

It's a styling fail for basically anyone under 50.
Funny, my 35 year old neighbor has already ordered one (a Gravity), and my 30 year old son thinks it's "Badass" (but he cannot afford one!) Not sure where you get your POV / dataset from...

Styling is by definition subjective, not objective. So not only can I deny it, but it’s simply wrong. Thanks for playing.

Also: under 50, last daily was an E-tron GT and I quite like the styling of the Gravity, at least when compared to any of the “SUV” options- EV9, Rivian, Model X, etc. Both my wife and I certainly prefer it to the Model S, though we both like our previous Audi E-tron GT more. But as I said, subjective. To each his own.

The Gravity is too rectangular to be an SUV is an interesting take. LOL
Just goes to show how meaningless the term SUV has become. The reason it looks van like is the short hood.

Many of us (including me) are judging the appearance of the Gravity from pictures.

Everyone should know that two dimensional pictures are not a very good representation of what something looks like in person. I have met people on a Teams meeting and then met them for the first time in person and they look totally different. Similar, of course, but there are so many attributes that a two-dimensional camera does not capture well.

That said, it looks like a minivan.

Just kidding. I don't think it does even in the 2D pictures I have seen. There are views that do resemble a minivan, but most of the views look more like a sport wagon or a sleek CUV than a minivan.

I do think the color combination will have a big impact on whether someone thinks it looks like a minivan or not. Black with the stealth appearance package creates a minivan like silhouette. At least it does in some of the 2D pictures I have seen.

But if you chose a contrast of colors between the body and the roof, it looks a lot more like a sport wagon or sleek CUV. I think a white body with the stealth package looks great. Or if a dark color, pick the Platinum appearance package.

I do think the 'SUV" label is a bit much, since it really does not look like it could go off road. It is like saying the Ford Mach-e is a SUV. Nope. It is a compact hatchback performance car. IMO.

So much cooler looking in person.

What I don't get are the people who think it looks like a minivan and don't like that look, but post it here.

If you don't like the look, why are you still here?

Perhaps the look is their only obstacle.
If so, at least admit it and don't trash the look so much. Stop sounding like a troll ... unless you are. 😀

That's me
I hate the Rivian headlights, but I don't go to a Rivian forum and talk about them.

I think folks should drive the damn thing and THEN see what they want to call it! Perhaps feelings will change upon both seeing it in person and experiencing its handling and ride?? To sit on a phone or computer judging a vehicle without seeing it in person and (more importantly) driving it? Doesn’t make a heck of a lot of sense to me personally…

Maybe the judging fills time until Gravities are available to test drive. Maybe that's why they're still on here.

Now after a test drive and they convert, will they tell us? Hmmm.

@borski the thread you hate! 😀
I guess you gotta peak in as moderator, huh?

Looks like I will be getting a black minivan Gravity…my only issues with minivans of today: they are under powered and their IIHS crash ratings are absolute trash.

Enter Gravity, in black, on small wheels. Stealth.

That’s the recipe not to attract attention, at least until the EV boost kicks in…and then invisible again.

While inside…minivan levels of space!!

Not even close. Honda Odyssey has 158 cubic feet. :p
Too much space to be an SUV, too small to be minivan.
I can do basic math…Odyssey is 5” taller and 8” longer.

141 cu ft storage on 2025 so within the margins.

Go Platinum with the black! Or embrace minivan-dom!

🤣

I was just at the Chicago auto show, so it was a great place to see the Gravity in person next to all sorts of cars and SUVS. The big 3-row truck based SUVs are monstrous in size, a lot of the Crossovers like the Santa Fe are about the same size as the Gravity but they made it blocky to look more SUV tough. The Bronco is a proper off-roader. The minivans and the VW Bus all look fairly huge compared to it as well. The Gravity is very low when it sits on lowest ride height or medium, so that could be the perception, but it looks good. It's kind of Eurolux All-Roader, so a raised wagon but that makes it drive well and still have incredibly packaging. I'd still say the closest to it are EV9 and EX90 from size and crossover styling, not a minivan. The minivans look very elongated comparatively (and they are, a Pacifica is like 20 inches longer).

Ah, I see. Apparently the 158 cubic foot number is with the front seats all the way forward and every nook and cranny filled. No doubt the Gravity will be the most space efficient vehicle on the market. There has been a trend to make cars bigger on the outside, smaller on the inside, and harder to see out of. I love that Lucid is going the other direction.
Anyway, I'm just joking around! I think it's a great looking car and I want one.

I never understood why the decision to buy is because it is a minivan or SUV. The decision to buy must be simply based on the use case and whether we like the styling and how it drives. All I can say is that if I did not buy Air I would have bought gravity because it is great looking, has excellent range and can seat 7 people or 5 people and 2 big dogs or a lot of cargo. I do have a 5 seater SUV and a minivan. So, I have a clear track record of buying based on use cases.

Labels are given to provide a summary for those not wanting to do a deep dive.

Some time later they were given to things nobody wanted to help them sell better.

Marketing.

Research is hard.

I spent 30 minutes yesterday explaining to my kid how to buy $228 prescription glasses with transition lenses for less than $60 with some combination of discounts, cash back, credit card cash back and insurance.

And some just hit the buy button and save the time while paying full price. Convenient.

Hmmm…I hope that someday I am in a position to simply “hit the buy button” on something costing as much as a Gravity. Until then, I guess I will just have to research the heck out of major purposes and ignore the labels!
