A different perspective

I just got my Air and now reading this, can I unread?

Still prefer sedan but I think wife will need a new car soon.

My partner still says he prefers the much closer-to-the-ground stance of the Air. (Color me suspicious, though, as he has started taking the Gravity every time he ventures out on his own to a tennis match.)

I, too, thought I would prefer the Air's lower stance and the better handling I assumed that would deliver. But I've been downright shocked that a car that rides so much higher than the Air can feel every bit as planted to the road on the twisties as the Gravity does. And with that issue off the table, I actually prefer the higher ride height and seating position of the Gravity. And with the rear-wheel steering and excellent camera displays, the Gravity is easier to park. And don't forget that the Gravity also has variable-ratio steering which the Air doesn't, adding another layer of finesse to its steering response throughout the speed range.

I think some of the reviewers, especially Lyn Woodward of "Kelley Blue Book", put it clearly. While you do feel the height of the Gravity, you have no sense whatsoever of its length and mass when driving it. And even the height is not a downside, as it confers so much comfort and utility with no penalty exacted in the handling. It's just another of those automotive engineering miracles Lucid keeps pulling off.

I've gone from a Tesla Model X to my current BMW iX and I test drove the Gravity. I've been in Mercedes' and Audis. I've never been in ultra high-end cars like Bentley or Rolls. I can say, with no equivocation that the Gravity is the best vehicle I've ever been in. Not best EV, best car PERIOD. And it's not even in its final form! Can't wait to get mine this fall.
Bentleys and RRs are not for driving. They are for being driven in. (Traditionally, at least... yes, I know that's not the market today. But they are land yachts all the same.)

Wow, hydbob's post blew me away.
Such an eloquent and powerful endorsement that's also very genuine for me.
This is worth more than 100 professional reviews.
So tempted to upgrade my order to Dream edition.

Me reading experiences, checking photos, and videos of new Gravity owners while waiting for 2 weeks for my SA to maybe reply to my email.
Nice review btw.

Let me know if any of you can relate to this situation. You find yourself in a new relationship, it’s something you’ve never experienced before. Fresh, exciting, raw, powerful, euphoric. An experience that takes you by surprise and never lets go. Then, after a few years of the relationship, through its ups and its down. Chaos, uncertainty, falling out of love then back into love, only to find yourself at a crossroads. Do you continue to ride the line of torturous love or call it quits? But you can’t quit, because every damn time you are together, all those initial feelings come flooding back to you and you remember why you started this relationship in the first place.

But then, something catches your eye. A new infatuation, another uncertainty, yet you can’t seem to pull away. You are drawn in, almost as if there is a gravity pulling you closer and when you finally get close enough, you don’t have enough willpower to stay away. You give into your wants, your needs, your desire for something new, something fresh. The excitement eats at you, makes your mind wander, imagining a world full of hope, love, and longing. Until that moment, when you take that plunge and let Gravity take over.

This has been my experience with the Air and the Gravity. It’s not just a new shiny toy to play with, but an entirely new experience. The Gravity is really Air 2.0, where everything feels slightly (sometimes immensely) better and more complete. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved my Air for the past 3.5 years, but that doesn’t mean it was the perfect pairing. With Gravity, I feel like I don’t want any other car. Everything about it feels right.

Gravity improves upon the Air in ways I wasn’t sure I thought I needed, but now that I have lived with it for the past month, it is hard to go back. The squircle, which I thought was just absurd as first, I want in every car I drive. The touchpads on the steering squircle, belong in every car moving forward. The beautiful display gives all the info you NEED, and that little bit extra you might want. Driving position is fantastic, the UX/UI is beautiful and useful and right where you need it to be. The seats are just as amazing as the Air, but because the Gravity rides higher, it just makes you feel more in control like overseeing your domain on the road.

The ride, oh the ride, is so lovely and compliant and comfortable. The Air was great, beautiful chassis tuning, otherworldly handling, but somehow the Gravity feels better in ways that are hard to describe. The air suspension does wonders at absorbing the road. The chassis still makes you feel connected, but at the same time, withdrawn from the harshness of the road. The different drive modes subtlety change the driving dynamics and give you a range of extreme comfort to racecar worthy handling. Somehow this behemoth of a car feels nimble in corners and small and agile at low speeds. When I first got the Air, I felt the car did a superb job of making it feel like you weren’t speeding. The Gravity takes that feeling to the next level and it is even harder to not drive the Gravity way past the speed limit. Between the car smoothing the pavement out, the NVH in the Gravity is so much better than the Air.

The space concept. Lucid, I love the ability to be able to replace my minivan with this wonderful SUV that can take my entire family and all the requisite gear to all the events we attend. No other vehicle can do it in as much comfort or style as the Gravity. Endless possibilities with the Gravity compared to the very capable, but vertically challenged Air, are now available to plan for the family.

Just like the Air, the Gravity has its own share of quirks. The doors have a delay when opening because of the frameless glass. The 3rd row storage mechanism is probably the least engineered part of the car. I have driven this car for a month and when I make turns, I hear random beeps that I still can’t figure out what they are for. I wish the back cover for the subtrunk was divided in half so I can stow 1 seat and put stuff on top of that stowed seat, but now I can’t access my sutrunk without moving that stuff.

But, the Gravity makes me not want to drive my Air anymore. My first Lucid, I am neglecting her, because the Gravity just makes more sense. It’s not that the Air isn’t wonderful and great and deserving, but for me, the pairing with the Gravity is just a better fit. I still love my Air though, you never forget your first love.
Tell us how you really feel. 🤣🤣

It's funny it's definitely my new shiny toy that I love driving over the Air at the moment. I still love how the Air drives though so I can't replace it entirely with the Gravity as a daily. But I like your take on the Gravity, it definitely feels like Air 2.0

I was pretty ready to buy a perfectly OK, safe 'n' sane Polestar 3 until we were able to drive a Gravity. It made the Polestar 3 look like a nicer Hyundai or Tesla

I think you're being a bit unfair to the Polestar 3, it's just very Swedish minimalist. it's still a nice ride and comfortable place to be in IMO. And I think the audio sytem is a bit better too.

I was looking for somewhere to share a different perspective but I feel bad for crashing this lovefest!🤣 Demoed a fully loaded Gravity yesterday and left a little deflated. Maybe the demo car was just trashed already...?

The HUD was blurry, and disappeared completely with polarized sunglasses on (not an issue with my other HUD equipped cars). Also horrendous reflection in windshield off the HUD bezel, embarrassing design for a car that's lauded as "perfectly engineered etc etc".

The pillowy ride that everyone keeps gushing about...? Nope. Felt similar to a Kia EV9 for god's sake. 23" wheels will do that, but then, why those ridiculous wheels...

The low speed running sound effect was shrill and too loud even inside the car, yuck.

This turkey feels about 80% baked. I'll give it a shot next year again, if the company survives that long.

We very much liked the Polestar 3. For us, it's only drawbacks were its seats (great in isolation but felt too firm compared to Gravity's) and rather small driver's display. Ride and noise were very good, and it has native Google maps, a huge plus for us.

The Polestar 3 is still very much on our comparison shopping list, pending its 2026 updated to 800v and possibly nacs.

It does seem like people select wheel size for the aesthetics. But it makes a big enough difference in a vehicle's dynamics, I think it's a much better idea to pick based on how you want the vehicle to feel. Anyway, you can't see the wheels when you're driving, and how much time are you really going to spend looking at the car when you're not driving? I know myself well enough to know that 20/21 is the right choice, or at most 21/22. I definitely don't want the 22/23 combo.

That is what I told myself, but eventually paid $10k more with upgraded 22/23 wheels to accept earlier delivery.
If I did not, would still be waiting for a Gravity now. 😂

I get it. A week ago I was told my order was due to go into production today, but I don't see that status change on the website yet. I'm consoling myself that the long wait means I won't have to deal with as many teething pains as some here have struggled with. (Fingers crossed!)

Well, at the very least, it does appear you will have avoided much/all of the fob issues. You won’t see it change to “in production” immediately. The system isn’t that integrated. If it were, they’d be able to give much better estimates on timing.

Right now, I think the main system they use to track production is a Magic 8 Ball…
