Gravity Service Appointments and Time In Service

I just got my GGT back after three days at a service center and dang I missed it.
Even though they gave me an Air Pure as a loaner, there's nothing like your own ride.
Couldn't agree more. I'm in an Air Pure loaner as well, with the tiniest possible wheels. Four things have frustrated me there:
  1. Coming from having owned two Tesla Model X (sequentially), then buying the Gravity, getting in and out of the loaner Air feels SUPER strange -- it's soooo low to the ground! I'm a pretty fit guy but I've caught myself grunting and groaning when I squat down to get into the driver's seat, then land in it with a thud 🙃
  2. The interior, while nice, absolutely pales in comparison to the comfort and 'just right' feel of the interior of my Gravity, and I miss that. A lot.
  3. They've limited the maximum speed on the loaner haha! I discovered this the hard way (passing on highway 280 here in the SF Bay Area).
  4. I have a native NACS wall charger in my garage that's useless with the Air because the service center (understandably) doesn't include a NACS to CCS adapter with the loaner. My habit is to charge at home, so for the past three weeks I've been... let's just say... experiencing the full Electrify America experience, and it hasn't been fun. /rant.
But is it better than ICE (or nothing!)? Absolutely! Just underscores how well the Gravity fits into my life and how much I've missed having it.

I can relate on #1 and #2. Didn't try #3. :)

I hit my head several times getting in the car. I recall Air owners talking about the small entry point.
Almost like getting into a tiny sports car.
I could get used to it though.
If I didn't need the space of a Gravity, I'd be all over a Fathom Blue AGT.

I glanced at the backseat area while driving and it just emphasized to me how much interior space the Gravity has.
As I've been learning my Gravity, one skill I've really been working on is backing into parking spaces and using the cameras to assist.

Here's to you being back in your GDE and passing on the 280!

Yes, Eric Bach actually mentioned the need to keep warranty costs under control in an interview just before the Gravity launch.

As a stockholder, I shudder to think what the warranty costs are so far for the Gravity. I'm sure even a fraction of what our first Gravity has already cost them erased any margin at all on the sale even if you take amortized costs out of the equation.
To be fair, we don't know what percentage are like yours and what percentage are like mine. I honestly don't know; I'm optimistic so my guess would be that more are like mine, but it's not I have any stats.

I think that more may be like yours than mine. However, this forum alone has several Gravity owners whose cars have been or currently are in the shop for fairly major repairs -- sometimes for two weeks or more == including drive unit failures, second-row seat replacements, front console replacements, etc.

Sorry to hear that. I pick up my Gravity next week. Can’t wait. We will be a Lucid Air and Gravity house.

I hope for my house to be like yours before the end of the year, an all-Lucid house with one Air and one Gravity.

Agreed. I just have no idea if that is 0.01%, 1%, or 20%. You know?

Maybe our Gravity repairs are finally getting wrapped up at the Roswell, GA Service Center. The app is no longer showing the car status as "In Service", and the "Live View" feature has been reactivated. The shop doesn't actually look that busy:

I texted them to ask for a status but haven't yet heard back. The car has been there since September 11.

Our second Gravity was delivered yesterday to the PPF installer where it will be for at least a couple of weeks due to their filled schedule. Having driven the Gravity enough for the addiction to kick in, this Gravity withdrawal syndrome is really getting irksome.

yeah car owners don't sign up just to announce they don't have any problems. With all the good, honest reviews these cars get, the issues we have on here are definately magnified out of proportion.

In fact, many people sign up for this forum to share the pleasure they derive from owning and driving Lucid products or to deepen their understanding of them when considering a purchase. As someone who joined over five years ago, I have gotten to know many of them for their enthusiasm about Lucid and their even-handed candor in discussing the ups and downs of ownership.

Most of the discussions you refer to are on threads specifically created to discuss bugs/issues and service experiences. The larger forum is replete with positive discussions of Lucid products and engineering.

It's very possible that the slow initial ramp has enabled Lucid to limit the number of really problematic vehicles that need a lot of repair. The fact that multiple service centers are saying they don't have much experience working on a Gravity, or even that someone brought in the first Gravity for them to work on, potentially supports that possibility. Finger's crossed that it's true! High warranty costs won't be a big deal if the vehicles now coming off the assembly line have these early problems resolved from the get-go.

…you’re referring to a relatively small percentage of owners on this site.

By and large, the vast majority of users who exist here and comment do so to complain or because they have a problem and want a workaround; most users lurk, and of those that comment, the majority are negative.

It is simply a fact that most people do not show up to talk about how much they love a car. Some do. Most don’t.

I agree they’re kept mostly to threads meant for problems, however - but that is also a concerted effort on the part of the mods.

That's simply not my sense of this forum in looking back over the past five years. What I see from the active posters is mostly a group of car enthusiasts who have chosen or want to own Lucids who come here to share their experiences across the ups and downs of those experiences.

Yes, there are a few trolls who arrive ready to trash a company for their own personal agendas, just as there are a few die-hard apologists for anything and everything Lucid does. But I think the bulk of discussions on this forum fall somewhere near the middle, which is exactly what I would expect of a product as devilishly complex as an automobile..

The fact is that Lucid designs and engineers phenomenal cars that have moved more needles forward in more automotive technologies simultaneously in a few short years than I have seen done by any other carmaker in my lifetime. It's why I now own three of them.

The fact also is that Lucid is thus far finding it difficult to produce those cars with the initial quality and reliability of more established brands. This is to be expected and is something that I am sure will resolve as the company matures.

Right now we are passing through a new-model introduction phase where the reports of problems will dominate for a while among people who are active on the forum. This, too, is to be expected and is not unlike what happened during the early months of the Air's introduction when so many of the car's underlying fundamental strengths were overshadowed by owners having to cope with a raft of mostly-software issues.

If this forum were more heavily weighted toward unbridled praise of Lucid and its products, I would find it less useful and less interesting . . . and I would have long ago moved on.

I understand your perspective. Nobody, including me, wants a forum full of unbridled praise (unless warranted, and we ain’t there).

However, you only see the threads and posts after moderation. You don’t see the permanently moderated folks, the ones who join and whose first 3 posts never make it because they are useless drivel, the deleted personal attacks, and so on.

It’s actually spectacular to hear that that is your perspective. It means we’re doing a good job moderating.

But it doesn’t mean it doesn’t take a lot of work to keep it that way.

I stand by what I wrote. I’m also okay to disagree, as both of us is operating on feelings (I really should write a sentiment analysis script at some point), and I don’t have stats.

But based on what the mods see, we generally agree it tends to skew negative, and it takes effort to keep the forum balanced. Conversely, managing “overwhelming positive praise” is less of an issue, as people simply don’t show up to scream about what they like from the rooftops at nearly the same clip.

That doesn’t also mean there aren’t real issues. Don’t take any of this to suggest the car is perfect or people should stop discussing both the good and the bad.

I aware you two points for proper use of "replete".

And that makes all the difference in our perspectives. The forum most of us here actually see is one of the more balanced I have seen over the years.

And the moderators absolutely do a spectacular job of keeping the place civil and sane -- probably the best I've seen anywhere. For that we should all be grateful.

I tend to agree. Lo and Behold my complaining and persistence paid off. Today in the mail I received via Federal Express my long sought after Zenith Red touch up paint. For those who advised me to move on and that is was not worth the principal, I say that persistence is a far better marker for success than intelligence or most other attributes. If more people would fight on principal, companies would be more forthcoming on problems. Ex, a lot of pushback on the Lucid lease returns resulted in Lucid being more proactive in fixing the problem. Now that Lucid is back in my good graces(thank you for whoever was monitoring my tirade), I feel that I can pass the good word along. After all, not every company would respond positively. Some would just ignore me(though that would not have stopped me from pursuing additional measures) so I have to give Lucid credit where credit is due. I have had some minor complaints about My lucid AGT over the years, but I have to say it gives me just as much pleasure each time I get in my car as it did when I first received it 3 and 1/2 years ago. It just is a superb automobile. Now if service and marketing would just be as outstanding, then the future of Lucid stock looks bright.

GREAT NEWS (sort of)!

Got a call from my SA today, and after having spent nearly three and a half weeks in service, Velocitron is going to be ready for pick up from the service center tomorrow afternoon, 1 Oct. The SA confirmed he had my second key fob and key card in hand as well (and that both key fobs have received the firmware update) fulfilling the due bill 🎉

As I mentioned up-thread, I'll ultimately need to return the car to have the middle row seats and assembly completely replaced whenever those are in stock, but at least they took care of the other issues, including some I didn't report -- like replacing the entire Rear Drive Unit (RDU). That particular repair sounds hairy... specifically the "...seepage coming from RDU OMS area." Here's a screenshot of that portion of the work order. Interested in knowing whether the observations and replacement procedure match others who've had RDU replacements (@hmp10 I'm lookin' at you):

They also managed to quiet the 'clanking' sound the rear tailgate latch would make upon opening and closing. I recall reading posts from others here who'd noticed the same thing on their cars. Here's the remedy for mine:

Really looking forward to having my Gravity back. I've missed it!
