Gravity Service Appointments and Time In Service

Interested in knowing whether the observations and replacement procedure match others who've had RDU replacements (@hmp10 I'm lookin' at you):

I'll let you know what I can find out when we get our car back. We're coming up on three weeks tomorrow.

I understand your perspective. Nobody, including me, wants a forum full of unbridled praise (unless warranted, and we ain’t there).

However, you only see the threads and posts after moderation. You don’t see the permanently moderated folks, the ones who join and whose first 3 posts never make it because they are useless drivel, the deleted personal attacks, and so on.

It’s actually spectacular to hear that that is your perspective. It means we’re doing a good job moderating.

But it doesn’t mean it doesn’t take a lot of work to keep it that way.

I stand by what I wrote. I’m also okay to disagree, as both of us is operating on feelings (I really should write a sentiment analysis script at some point), and I don’t have stats.

But based on what the mods see, we generally agree it tends to skew negative, and it takes effort to keep the forum balanced. Conversely, managing “overwhelming positive praise” is less of an issue, as people simply don’t show up to scream about what they like from the rooftops at nearly the same clip.

That doesn’t also mean there aren’t real issues. Don’t take any of this to suggest the car is perfect or people should stop discussing both the good and the bad.
I wasnt aware of the amount of moderator intervention. Thanks very much to everyone involved! This forum is one of the most pleasant of any I've participated in. The only ones as good are high end woodworking machinery forums. 🤣

GREAT NEWS (sort of)!

Got a call from my SA today, and after having spent nearly three and a half weeks in service, Velocitron is going to be ready for pick up from the service center tomorrow afternoon, 1 Oct. The SA confirmed he had my second key fob and key card in hand as well (and that both key fobs have received the firmware update) fulfilling the due bill

As I mentioned up-thread, I'll ultimately need to return the car to have the middle row seats and assembly completely replaced whenever those are in stock, but at least they took care of the other issues, including some I didn't report -- like replacing the entire Rear Drive Unit (RDU). That particular repair sounds hairy... specifically the "...seepage coming from RDU OMS area." Here's a screenshot of that portion of the work order. Interested in knowing whether the observations and replacement procedure match others who've had RDU replacements (@hmp10 I'm lookin' at you):

FHM aka Fleet Health Management means that your Gravity threw remote errors to 'the mothership.' Those stories you read here of folks getting a call saying 'hey, we need you to bring your car in so we can replace thing' when the car was seemingly otherwise operating perfectly fine? Same deal - those are the vehicles telling Lucid's FHM system 'Houston, we have a problem'

By and large, the vast majority of users who exist here and comment do so to complain or because they have a problem and want a workaround; most users lurk, and of those that comment, the majority are negative.

It is simply a fact that most people do not show up to talk about how much they love a car. Some do. Most don’t.
Hey; it's a bit of both! We love our Gravity, but there's only so many different ways of posting about that.... (we're close to 5k miles, road trips are fantastic, it's nice to see new features rolling out, etc.)

I haven't yet needed a service visit, although we will eventually have one for a list of minor issues. When I post about new things I've noticed it's largely to see if they need to go on the list. It's a new, primarily software-defined vehicle. The software is buggy. I expected that, and I expect it'll be a lot better by the end of the year.

The whole access control situation has been an embarrassing debacle, though -- I hope it doesn't stretch on much longer. I'd love to hear the inside story on that someday, but we'll probably never get it.

Yup. Agreed on all of the above.

There are only so many ways to say 'I love the car' without sounding like a broken record. There are ~infinitely many more possibilities of how to say 'thing in car is broken,' which is precisely my point.

I have no problem with any of that. I only have a problem with others who don't have that context in their head, who then show up and only see a few 'I love my car' posts and hundreds of 'thing is broken' posts. It can provide the wrong impression, simply because of human nature. That's why I try to remind people of that. You aren't the reason I posted that post, and neither is @hmp10, in other words.

I don't think that's a bug, necessarily, nor do I know how to fix it; constructive criticism is always helpful.

Nobody ever said it (or I) was perfect. :)

Closing the loop. After three and a half weeks in service, I picked up my GDE from the service center this evening, and am happy to report all issues (with the exception of the second row seats and mechanism) have been addressed to satisfaction!

Sooooo good to be back in my Gravity 🥰

Took delivery of my Gravity GT on Sunday in Scottsdale. Drove home, I live 2 hours north of the SC. Tuesday I noticed the plastic lighted Lucid panel across the front of the Frunk was bulging up in the center about 1/4”. I could push is down flat with my finger. Checked another Gravity, it didn’t have the issue. Made a short video clip. I called the SC. The response was, “wow, that’s a new one.” I sent them the video. A short time later they contacted me and said I needed to bring the car in for repair. They had ordered the part, but had no ETA for that part. They stated that the first available appointment would be 3 weeks out. They hoped the part would be in by then. They had no estimate of time to repair.

All very responsive and professional. Clear that they are going up the learning curve with Gravity. Other issues I’ve encountered I think will get fixed with future OTA updates. All Deja Vu of 3+ years ago with my Air GT delivery. The Air turned out great, so will Gravity. Just takes a little time to stamp out the bugs.

Glad you got it fixed and are getting it back! That’s a long time in service but I get that sometimes they need to take the car to identify what to order then wait for the order then fix it.

We turned our Gravity over to the Roswell Service Center three weeks ago with over 70% charge on it. As of yesterday the charge had dropped to 17%. This morning the mobile app was showing the car has been charged back to 77%, and a few minutes later I got an email with a receipt showing the charge had been billed to me.

I'm not going to make an issue of this to Lucid, but I find it interesting that Lucid is charging the owners for the charge used during prolonged warranty service visits. At least maybe it means we'll be getting the car back soon. According to the bill, they had taken the car to a third-party charger instead of charging it using Level 2 chargers at the Service Center.

I called Roswell yesterday afternoon for a status report. I was told they were finishing up the car and would be ordering the transport at the end of the day but that the transport company had up to 48 hours to assign a driver. I asked what work had been done on the car and found out they had not calibrated the HUD unit as they had said they would. Our HUD unit had been replaced by the Miami Service Center just before our road trip, but the software had not been available to activate it. The software was finally downloaded at Roswell (after two attempts and a conference call with Lucid Engineering). However, if the car is returned to us without the HUD being calibrated, either it will have to be trucked back over to Miami or I will have to drive it over to have that done, as it cannot be done by a mobile technician.

I'm hoping at some point soon to have use of the car again. So far it's been at Service Centers for five of the weeks we've had it.

WTF they might as well bill you for the toilet paper staff used at the facility while working on your car. You should definitely make an issue of them billing you for charging your own car, especially given you’ve literally had more trouble with your car than any other Gravity owner. I cut Lucid slack left and right but come on, it’s kind of an insult to deliver someone a car that never leaves service and then charge them for the electricity to charge it, for under warranty repairs. Total dick move.

I'm getting vibes of a good bit of change in Lucid service practices and attitudes since the early days of Air ownership. The changes are both obvious and subtle and are, I suppose, largely to be expected as the work volume grows and pressure builds to step up cost controls.

All I can hope is that it doesn't go to the extremes of decline I saw in Tesla service during the time frame in which the Model 3 hit the market.

FWIW, Lucid took the car to a commercial charger at a shopping center over three miles from the Service Center. I wonder how much of an employee's time got tied up doing that instead of just using a 240-volt plug at the Service Center?

I noticed the same thing with my Lucid panel but wasn’t sure if it was within spec or not since I never looked that closely at the Gravities I have seen in the past. It doesn’t hugely bother me but good to know they are willing to repair it.

It might be a sign of adhesive not properly gripping, and it could become more of an issue if it finally let go while driving. I would get in touch with a Service Center to get a part ordered to have available for a repair when convenient for you.

Oh, that’s weird they didn’t charge it at the SC. I can only speak from personal experience but
my center Natick has repeatedly gone above and beyond so on that end of it I have no complaints, in fact it’s the only thing that made me ok with getting an earlier Gravity as my Air had needed as stupid about of service appointments but the service center made the inconvenience very minimal so I figured I’d live with being an early adopter again. There’s only so much good will that any given person has though before you run out of patience and the company can’t survive on good will alone if the software and vehicle aren’t reliable and the SC is sloppy or is going to bill you for charging your car.

Okay, I'm starting to tear my hair out here.

I had set the charge limit on our Gravity at 80%. I just checked the mobile app, and someone at the Roswell Service Center had raised it to 100%, and the car was now charging again and already at 91%. It is waiting to get scheduled for a 2-day trip to Florida, and I do not want that battery sitting at full charge for several days . . . something that even Lucid recommends against doing.

Honest to God, what's going on here? Don't these people know how to treat their own product?

I have a strong suspicion this was an honest mistake; it probably just used PnC to charge and then billed you automatically. I would be extremely surprised if it were intentional, and if you mention it, I doubt they would have any problem reimbursing you for it.

But I strongly suspect the in-house chargers were full, they wanted to charge it up, and just took it to the nearest 3rd party charger without thinking too much about it. On Lucid loaners, I bet PnC bills Lucid, so it's not an insane mistake to make.

You should definitely let them know, imho, so they don't accidentally do it to someone else, if I'm right.

Yeah that’s totally different, @hmp10 did Lucid service center send you a bill for the charging or did you just get charged to your lucid account for plug and charge? One is total BS, the other is an innocent mishap they couldn’t have anticipated.

Lucid always sets the limit to 100%; I had to have a chat with the Millbrae service team to ask them to note to always set it to 80% for me. They still sometimes forget. This one isn't new.

I got an email showing a Lucid wallet charge. Once I saw they had gone to a commercial charger, I knew they would have had to use the plug-and-charge feature. My question was why did they tie up an employee to drive the car several miles there and back and sit with the car while it was charging. Perhaps @borski is right that all the L2 chargers at the SC were taken. But the car's not being trucked right away, so there was no particular hurry to charge it as far as I am aware.

I'm a lot more concerned about them trying to charge it to 100% than I am about paying for a charge. According to the mobile app, the car is sitting outside in a parking lot right now. I keep turning on the A/C to pull the battery down a bit, but someone or something keeps turning it off after a few minutes.

I still can't get out of my head what a blast it was to drive. It's actually been hard to enjoy our Air Dream P as much since.

Sorry you have had so many problems.

I’m about to order a 2026 Air GT and I’d like to know your perspective on the Air vs Gravity. The Gravity is great, but the Air seemed like a more capable vehicle in my test drives. The one concern is the Air has DreamDrive Pro while the Gravity has DreamDrive 2 Pro. Also getting in and out of the Gravity is easier.
