Gravity Service Appointments and Time In Service

I had my car come back from service with a similarly disconnected 12v, once, last year. I assumed it was because they had disconnected my radar detector while it was in service, which was correct; they just forgot to plug the 12v back in because they don’t do that for almost any vehicle, since very few tap the 12v.

I suspect that’s what happened in your case too.

Not sure what you're referring to here?

If you mean the cover left lying in the trunk, our radar detector was working before we opened the trunk to find things as pictured in the photo. Its power pickup is not from that lighter plug.

I think the cover was removed because that's where the access port is for running the computer diagnostics mentioned in the service notes:

I actually think it’s likely the influx of new Airs causing the issue. They’ve been selling a LOT more this year than in the past. There just aren’t enough Gravity out there now (I think) to cause some of the strain we’re seeing. Those that ARE at SCs getting fixed seem to spend most of their time there parked waiting for parts (like mine) - so the service team likely isn’t spending a ton of time there.

Regardless, there really aren’t THAT many Lucid cars on US roads. Maybe 30,000? They have a lot of SCs, so not sure why there would/should be an issue except perhaps they need more staff.

IDK, just a thought. Either way, I went through this with our S and X when Tesla came out with the 3 and it was awful. As I’ve mentioned before, one reason among many we want to drop out Tesla is service has become unbearably long and difficult.
Exactly. When I dropped my Gravity off at the service center (Millbrae, CA) on Monday, 9 Sept, mine was the only Gravity in sight. I couldn’t believe how many Airs were tucked all over the facility, and in a lot across the street! Every one of them had actual license plates, and, by extension, must have had owners waiting for service to be completed. Grateful they gave me an Air loaner, but it’s going on a week now since I left my Gravity with them, and I’ve had zero contact with my service advisor. Will ping on Monday - the actual one week mark - for an update.

That was my experience re: the number of delivered Airs that were just all over the service center. It was crazy. It almost looked like the Gravity flyovers! But I saw only one delivered Gravity and it was just being delivered.

That’s why I think all the lease deals and other incentives on Air are the real issue. Certainly, any Gravity issue could exacerbate the situation, but it feels like Airs are the issue.

Might be skewed because I'm in SoCal but I've definitely been seeing more and more Airs out on the roads this year. The only Gravity I've seen is the test drive vehicle from the Studio here, I've passed it a few times now.

It seems very geography dependent. I am in the DMV and in Northern VA or close in MD, I see 2-5 Airs a day. In south Jersey or Philly (not part of DMV but spend time here for kids and family), I see maybe one - usually none.

Obviously, CA has a ton.

I've seen one in Tennessee, Nashville relatively and in the north part of Alabama, less than 5. All Airs. Definitely geographical differences. For what it's worth, Teslas are an absolute dime a dozen out here, plenty of other EVs, just not many have even heard of Lucid. Doing my best to change that and have wowed some folks to start looking in our direction.

Oh yeah. I see probably 15 Ys a day and the same number of 3s. That’s the challenge for Lucid on their mid size. Tesla’s flooded the market and has much more flexibility on price. But I digress from the thread topic…

In my neighborhood alone I have 6 or 7 Tesla 3/Ys, a couple Model S and a Cybertruck. The sheer number of Teslas in SoCal is crazy. Seeing a lot of other EVs too but Tesla definitely has the majority here.

Yeah, and the cookie cutter same, same, sameness of Tesla is boring! Model Y and Model 3 are everywhere and the sight of them (due to sheer numbers and limited colors) has gotten to be nauseatingly boring. IMHO the Tesla Canvas™️ is good lighting for other lower production brands.

The number of cybertrucks I see daily is astounding considering it’s a ridiculous vehicle (to me). I see at least 3-5 a day. But, Tesla is giving them away with 0% financing, etc.

I suspect there's going to be an uptick of Model S and X (especially S) on the road near me too, I know of one person who bought an S now specifically because they're offering free supercharging again in the new "Luxe Package". Honestly, we considered the X again after they released that but I just can't do one again, ours was a certified nightmare.

Glad you're not getting another X (and I'm hoping you're in line for a Gravity). I've owned two Model X (2019 P100D and 2022 Plaid). The 2022 was a nice upgrade over the 2019 - more resolved interior, somewhat better fit and finish, MUCH more power, but absolutely can not hold a candle to the Lucid Gravity. One thing I was consistently frustrated about was interior space on both Model X I've owned. They were both 6-seat variants, and while those center seats were cool, they completely dashed any attempt to haul anything other than people. The Gravity is sheer alchemy in the area of interior volume for both people and cargo.

Just writing about it makes me miss my Gravity more! Can't wait for service to be finished so I can be behind the wheel again.

Yes, I ordered a Gravity as soon as I was first able to see one in person (wasn't willing to before actually seeing/sitting in one). Currently waiting on a GGT in black/stealth/tahoe with everything except for the tech package (not a fan of HUDs at all).

Our X experience was cursed. A lot of fit and finish issues over the time we owned it, creaks and annoying noises. The passenger side window motor failed several times. The last straw for us was that the FSD computer died on a long trip to Texas to see the eclipse last year which left us without even cruise control for the drive back. It bricked itself after an update and Tesla tried to blame me for it, took a lot of back and forth before they fixed it and then when we finally got the car back we had a ton of other new issues we hadn't had before. Got rid of it not long after and we've EV-less since then. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee as well that I'll be retiring when the Gravity finally arrives.

Being brave (maybe foolish lol) and going with the Gravity as our only current vehicle.

We’re a one vehicle household, and just as the Model X had been previously, the Gravity is our only vehicle. I do the majority of driving, since my partner prefers to use light rail to get to and from work. For us, since limiting ourselves to one vehicle, it must do everything well. Gravity has ticked all the boxes!

I do almost all of our driving as well as we're both retired now. One thing that really attracted us to the Gravity is the range. We did some long trips in the X and have some more planned now that we have the time. The X was the long range and it wasn't terrible to take on long trips but we did have a few places where we had some close calls with charging.

We'll likely be driving from San Diego to New Orleans sometime in the spring in the Gravity, stopping at a lot of places along the way that we'd like to see. I'm also a photographer so I love long driving trips where I can stop and photograph things I see along the way. We'd been hoping to do that trip in the fall but it's not looking like we'll have the Gravity in time so pushing it off until spring. Probably going to do a San Diego to Portland trip too in the same fashion.

Sure, could’ve been to access the Ethernet as well; in my case, whenever they debug the car they also disconnect radar, to limit external issues. Either way, they disconnect the 12v lighter (which mine doesn’t tap either) and one time forgot to reconnect it. 🤷‍♂️

My current story has come to a successful end. Car was in service nine days. Most of that time was waiting for the window regulator to be taken from assembly line and arrive at SC. It arrived Monday and I got car back today.

1) Window regulator fixed rear window
2) Having interior rear door panel re-installed fixed suspension and light issue
3) They “hard reset” ACS and fob started to work…then
4) Car updated to 3.3.1 last night and they updated fob firmware today, so all should be good going forward.
5) They gave it a really nice courtesy car wash and then it poured on drive home. Oh well.

They kept me informed the entire time and were honest, responsive and helpful. Totally random issue and SO GLAD to have my car back. I seriously missed driving it!!!

Haha. I spent a good half hour trying to figure out of I could fit a halved sheet of plywood (4x4) into my 6-seater X in some way. I think I eventually got it in there with a lot of moving blankets on the corners but I think it ended up leaving a mark anyway. It is ridiculous how little stuff you can fit on a 6-seater X.

I’ll be driving from San Diego to Portland tomorrow morning! But it will be in my Air GT. I’m really looking forward to the long drive, though my partner is not.

I don't understand... Gravity owner for 2 days. Wanted to schedule an appointment to fix a window that goes up, then doesn't stay up and reopens a few inches. I put the concern into the app, picked Millbrae, and then... no service availability for any day? I checked 3 months - the only months the app was showing, and not a single day has an available slot.

Wtf??

And BTW, I tried numerous times to call Millbrae service and not a single time did anyone pick up the phone. How's this service acceptable for a $120k car?
