Gravity [Dream Edition] Reservations Tracker

A thought directed at the 57% or so of Dream Edition reservation holders who are opting for the base or mid spec wheels. It’d seem like we could get a list/ thread going with GT buyers who’d be willing to trade wheels.

I’d propose splitting the profit: a Dream buyer, for example, who wants the base wheels links with a local GT buyer who wants top spec wheels (a $3500 option). Knowing they have a “customer” the Dream buyer then orders the top spec wheels and swaps with the GT reservation holder when their car comes in. The base buyer also hands over $1750, so each party gets 1.75k for their trouble. If for some reason that particular deal falls through I suspect others would step up.

What do others think, any interest?

Not a bad idea. But I spent weeks of tearing my hair out trying to figure out the right choice of wheels and tires to get the optimal balance of range and handling with the limited tire choices posed by the staggered diameters and widths. You finally convinced me the best route was to stick with the tires Lucid matched to each wheel set and to use wheel swaps when greater range and cold-weather capability was needed. But that just seemed like such a hassle. So I finally blew a fuse and came up with a different solution.

Yesterday I ordered a second Gravity for the household. Each of us wants the use of an EV when the other EV is being used, so we were going to keep two Lucids, anyway -- the Gravity Dream and the Air Dream Performance. (We're saying bye-bye and good riddance to the Model S Plaid.) So we just decided to make it two Gravities instead.

And there were a few other factors at play. I still love the Air Dream and will really miss that gorgeous Santa Monica interior. But there's no extended manufacturer's warranty yet available for it, and I don't like driving expensive-to-repair cars outside of warranty (although there is still the 8-year powertrain warranty). And, the more I look at the Gravity and how advanced its software and UI might be, I've begun to wonder if it might make the Air's setup feel a little dated by comparison -- a worry I've not heretofore had. And, finally, I've got another joint replacement coming up, and the Air is just getting a bit more challenging on the ingress/egress front.

I'm not a fan of the Gravity Dream exterior or interior color choices, either. The Aurora Green looks pretty good, but I'm just tired of seeing it in almost every photograph. So a second Gravity gets me to the colors I really like on the Gravity:

Here's the lineup:

Dream Edition
Aurora Green / Tahoe
22/23" wheels
7-passenger
All options

Grand Touring
Lunar Titanium / Ojai
20/21" wheels
7-passenger
All options

Since the Lunar Titanium is still showing as "late availability", we should have time to figure out if we like the first Gravity as much as we think we will. If we don't, there'll still be time to abort on the second Gravity. But I just wanted to get in the queue now should Gravity demand exceed production capacity for any significant period.

TLDR; could decide on color so got two 😆😜

For context, it should be noted that fully half of the people who reported orders on this tracker for either Gravity Dreams or GTs say they are also keeping their Airs. A few posts on this forum have indicated there are already some two-Air households out there. So it seems the Gravity will be turning a good many more Lucid owners into two-Lucid households. It's just a question of which models those two Lucids will be.

Your second Gravity is identically spec’d to the one spec’d for my wife! Like you, I am hoping for much later this year!!!

We will be keeping our 2025 AGT and getting rid of our Hyundai Ioniq 5 (thank God!!!)…

Oh god… why did you have an Ioniq. Thank god you’ll be getting rid of it. I’m convinced that car was put out to clog all possible charging spots at EA.

My wife liked it. The UI is the worst of any car (IMHO) I’ve ever driven. I literally cringe every time I have to change a setting. It’s also been recalled 4 or 5 times, back to the dealer 5 times in its first 18 months…just a crap experience all around.

It is so weird to me that Lucid get heat for its UI and the garbage that Hyundai puts out is never mentioned as a reason not to buy an Ioniq 5!

While it would be fun to have a 2 Lucid household (have friends that are a 2 Rivian household), my wife will not be giving up her diesel Suburban as that is a monster people hauler with pretty decent gas mileage to boot (recently got 29 MPG on roadtrip!). Love my GT, but looking forward to more space and capability of the Gravity.

I think that prize goes to the Chevy Bolt 😂

I haven't experienced the Ioniq 5 software but have read on multiple sites that's it's pretty garbage. I take it with a grain of salt though because as you mention the Lucid UI cops a beating and I don't think it's bad at all.

Well, I don't know that I'm hoping for much later. But I do want some time with the first Gravity to be sure we're ready to double up . . . and I'm sort of hoping our Dream doesn't get built until a few more Gravities come off the production line and all the (relatively) minor issues that showed up in NYC last weekend are resolved.

I am hoping for late Q3 / early Q4…

My wife loves hers. It’s not the worst car, but zero chance I’d ever pick it over any Lucid to drive if I had the choice. The UI sucks, it is constantly in recalls for the ICCU, etc.

But that’s just my $.02. There are worse EVs. There are also better ones.

Hyundai’s is worse, by far. Lucid’s UI is much, much better, and the UX isn’t even a comparison.

Lucid’s infotainment used to have more bugs, but not so much recently. To the Ioniq’s credit, it has never needed a reboot, in that there are things that a reboot simply doesn’t fix, haha. When things on the Ioniq break, they stay broken. I’m not sure that’s better lol

Having the ability to reboot is important to me, and a hard reset is even better. I’m sure the Ioniq is a solid car, but I’m just tired of waiting forever at EA chargers. That’s more of a personal gripe than anything against the car itself. At the end of the day, it’s just a car. (Honestly as soon as free charging is up, I'll be charging my daily driver Lucid at home and wont have any EA interactions but road trips. So at that point i'm sure my passionate hate of the Ioniq will fade lol.

I made this choice early on; that “free” wasn’t worth frustration, as frustration isn’t free. So unless I was on a road trip, I charged at home for convenience.

This meant that whenever I did use EA, it tended to work fine, because I generally *didn’t care as much*, and we all know that caring is how things fail us :p

But yeah, save yourself the hassle, call it a sunk cost, and do the “right” thing, not the “free” thing.

And I say this as a very loves-to-negotiate-for-a-better-deal hardass. :)

Totally agree with you. But I enjoy driving a lot, so free works for me because I don’t mind chilling at a charger after a drive. But yeah, if it wasn’t free, id just charge at home and probably drive less.

Congrats! Since you will have both a DE and GT, you are now officially elected to film the first race between the two so we can all see the speed difference! 😁

I don't know how clean a comparison it would be. If the GT arrives much after the Dream, half the Dream's tire tread may be gone. 🥴
