Gravity Delivery Discussion

Well, I picked up my GGT today from Tysons. Appointment was for 1:00pm, finally got to see the car at nearly 3:30pm. So a bit of wait. Everything about the car looked good, fitment, paint, etc. Tested as much as I could sitting in the delivery bay, and then it was time to head out onto the wide open congested DC beltway for my almost 2 hour drive home. Car was great -- except -- no heat. Seat heaters worked, steering wheel heater worked, fans blew air, just not hot air. Did a reboot when I got home but no luck. And I was sooooo close to having no issues! Oh well. First world problems.
Oftentimes, I have to set the heat to 86 for a minute or two before real heat comes out. Not sure how you did it, but keeping it at 72, for example, will not produce any heat - no matter how long - for whatever reason. You can back it down to that once heat is on, but I’ve not been able to ever start it there if it’s “cold” out - let’s say that’s less than 45-50 degrees or so.

I always turn heat on prior to getting in if I can. Huge help versus waiting a couple of minutes.

Thanks. I did have it set at 86 for about an hour and nothing. Next time I'll wear a coat!

Imagine selling someone a brand new six figure car where the heater doesn’t work. Did they not check??

My thoughts exactly. And it is hard for a new owner to check everything while you are there. Luckily, I just went in my garage and VIOLA, the heat now works!

It's a new car day!! In our second attempt on delivery for our new Gravity at Tysons Corner, VA, things went much better. It didn't start that way - I got a call early in the day from the delivery contact, telling me our Gravity was showing an error and required service. Since I was driving two hours to get there, I continued. Fortunately, they resolved the issue and our delivery was delayed but went well.

We drove our new Gravity home, about 115 miles and we still have 67% battery left! Amazing! The best part is that everything worked perfectly. The key fob, the frunk, HUD, seats moving up and down, the seat heaters and ventilation on auto, etc. etc. Hope I'm not jinxing myself but we didn't experience any of the bugs I've been reading about. The vehicle is amazing!

I notice your driver side door is unlocked while the rear door is locked, is that a setting you can config? I ask because in the Air its either all doors unlocked or locked, sometimes I wish there was option to only unlock driver side if I’m the only one getting in for security purposes.

I would also like a headlight timer so I can have them on 30 seconds after I get out, like every other car made in the last 20 years. It does miss weird little things.

@elin - Unlocking only the driver side door appears to be the default setting on the Gravity. When I approach the vehicle with the fob in my pocket, that's what happens. If I press the unlock button, it will unlock all the doors. This setting works well for us, particularly my wife, so I'll need to research the option to change it if/when needed.

Yes. This is a setting you can change. More of than not I have more than me in car and I hate fobs - whether it’s the Gravity one or any other car - so I have it set to present all handles as I don’t want to have to get the fob out.

Anyone else seeing problems with the car going to sleep? About 1/4 of the time I lock it the doors lock but the car stays on and the mirrors do not fold. I have to get into the driver's seat, put it in forward then back in park and get out again. Then it goes to sleep. Not a big deal but a weird issue. I also have an issue with only the driver's door unlocking when it is set to unlock all doors (triple-checked the option). Lots of little bugs like that keep creeping up. Is there a way to report each of these to Lucid?

The software for the HVAC is universally totally f—-ed. Where most other software glitches only pop up every once in a while and then disappear on next start up, the HVAC issues are screwed ALL the time. Auto setting does not stay from one start to another. Which may be by design for now since when heating and set in auto, HVAC will blow at your chest and not at floor (like normal cars.) Like Ron Burgundy says, when needing heat, I get in the habit of immediately raising temp to 80 on startup (then lower back to 72 after warm). Fortunately I live in Houston where it has not been cold very much this winter.

They should dedicate a couple of engineers to just hvac bugs until these are fixed. Their software team had a lot of bugs to fix but hvac bugs are inexcusable. It should just work.

Well, we got our Gravity….

I would have thought that Lucid would have had this delivery thing down in the 4 years after buying my Air. That delivery was bad, but this 6-1/2 hour ordeal was the worst experience of my life, multiple delivery times in their system (don’t worry about the time in the portal, the one I told you is correct), lack of paperwork before hand without clear amounts due at pickup so I could get a check in advance (do ACH here, was told), paperwork still not ready at the time of the appointment, technical issues for document signing, inability to take a payment on the website with “known” error messages thus sending me to drive to the bank to get a cashiers check, rushed delivery since everything took so long with no car set-up (it will be like your air so you don’t need anything) just inspect the car fast, sign and leave. Then I realized as I was getting ready to pull out that they never asked for the cashier’s check I had to get. Should have just left, but I went back to hunt down the delivery people. What a disorganized fiasco.

I really do like the Lucid cars, but I don’t know if I ever want to actually buy another one after this. And Lucid, please give the cars a bath before delivery. Dusty, dirty cars at delivery do not make a good impression.

That sucks... What location?

I agree, San Diego seems extremely disorganized.

My Gravity arrived in San Diego on 12/3 and I was told that following Friday (12/5) while PDI usually took them 3 days that it would probably be 5 because they were busy. When I checked in again on 12/12 I was told it was delayed again because 3.3.20 was released and they had to install that update before I could take delivery. On Tuesday 12/16 they finally let me schedule a delivery appointment for Friday 12/19 (the earliest available so they could make sure it was updated).

An hour before my 11AM delivery I got a call from the service center asking if I could come at noon instead because they had to install an update still. Got there at noon and was told they were just finishing up with detailing and it wouldn't be long. A little after 12:30 they told me that while it was being detailed it started installing another update and that it would be another hour before it was ready. We left and came back an hour later and they were just pulling it out to the delivery area. From there everything went fine with delivery but I also discovered when I got home that the fob hadn't been updated and I can see that not only had they not installed 3.3.20 before my appointment, they hadn't even installed 3.3.9 yet as it shows that both were installed on 12/19 in my dashboard. I also had a small scratch that they said service would reach out to me to make an appointment for but I haven't heard anything since then. After new years I'll call them and follow up but the fact that I have to even do that is a little disappointing.

And while mine did go through detailing it was obviously a bit of a rushed job, likely because they were aware we were already there. Once we got out and driving that day in different lighting I could see what a bad, streaky job they did cleaning the inside of the windshield and a few other areas.

I know they're a new service center but this kind of disorganization and lack of communication has kind of been the norm with Lucid so far. Every single person we've met or dealt with at Lucid have been nice and extremely pleasant to interact with but their apparent lack of any kind of organization from the top down in the company really shows.

The day after I took delivery Lucid sent an email with a survey about how the sales and delivery process went, I made sure to detail all of this to them and hope that someone at Lucid actually reads those because they really need to work on a lot of this.

Costa Mesa. San Diego said they could not do an end of year delivery.

Oof, ok that's even worse then. I can partially forgive the San Diego SC for being disorganized because they're new but Costa Mesa has been there for a while now and should be better at this.

Again, I feel more and more these problems with organization being seen points to a company wide lack of some procedures and standards either existing or being followed.

I do think Sales is probably their worst department at the moment, from a “process and organization” perspective. I’ve seen and heard these stories far too often, including from close friends of mine.

Post-sale, things tend to go very well, but the sales process is quite disorganized, even if everyone means well.

I do believe they’ll improve it, and it has gone through iterations that have improved aspects of it, but still has a ways to go.
