Gravity Delivery Discussion

My issue is IF Lucid has figured out the fob issue in particular, I think it’s reasonable to expect them to address it with current owners proactively. They know I have the issue but haven’t said anything about fixing it. In fact, when mobile tech was here for window, he basically didn’t acknowledge to fob issue. Super nice guy, but seemed exasperated to hear about it again and didn’t offer an explanation or insight.

Again, not meant to whine, but feeling a bit hung out to dry. But, then I go drive the car and go to my happy place! And I expect when it goes to SC in two weeks, they’ll fix it.
It is possible that there are multiple bugs confounding the key fob issue. The console replacement may be a partial fix that improves the situation, and even if that were "the" fix they have to let it be in the field for some time before they know it has been resolved.

I was able to finally take delivery last week of my GGT. I placed an order on 4 July and changed a few things to get matched to a car. I ready thousands of forum posts, watched pretty much every gravity video on YouTube, and did as much research as possible. I won’t lie, I was worried about what I would be getting. But after 7 Teslas (I think) and 2 Rivians, I figured I was ready for bleeding edge tech. What was delivered to me was not what I expected…

My car arrived at the service center on 13 Aug. It took them until the 27th before they would let me pick it up. Was a frustrated? Yep. Apparently the hold on deliveries impacted me, but the worse part was I was never told what they did during the hold. But ah well. I finally got the car. I was blown away at the quality of the car. I fully expected to have issues with the key fob, cards, etc. I was prepared to turn off the proximity locking and everything. But it has worked, flawlessly. I had an issue with the GPS being strange, but it fixed itself. It reminded me of a Tesla having to drive some miles before the “Autopilot” functionally was calibrated. Since then, the GPS has worked great. The one part that hasn’t worked yet is the Homelink. It still shows the QR code, even though the delivery advisor swears the hardware module was installed (I’m not sure if that’s the case though). The DreamDrive Pro has far exceeded what I expected. It’s not on the level of Tesla, but it is better than Rivian. The fact that it works on many surface streets was a very pleasant surprise to me. The car is quiet, the sound system is great, and thus far I am surprised from a tech level. Has it been perfect? Nope. I got in once and got the no rear steering error. But it cleared itself up essentially right away. I do have the strange issue of the car showing 3.2.2 and the app saying the car is on 3.2.1. Ah well, minor thing.

I do have a question? Does everyone on the pilot screen show a silver Gravity? I thought that would match the configuration of your actual vehicle. I have black with the mid sized wheels, but the display Gravity is silver.

Regardless, the car is nice. I would not hesitate to tell anyone to be wary of or ding one. Sure, they probably did have issues initially. I have flown aircraft that are new that have had the same problems. Even old planes with new tech. But eventually they are figured out. I believe (fingers crossed) that Lucid is starting to figure out the issues and are hitting their stride. I think we will really know once software updates start adding features versus fixing existing issues. CarPlay, streaming, and phone as key are my main desires. I can say, thus far, I feel this has been a great purchase. YMMV.
Yep, silver. Agree with you on your assessment. One month and over 3k miles in and it still, bugs and all, has been an absolutely amazing experience. Has it been perfect, no. Room for improvement, yes. But the VAST majority of the time, this vehicle is just phenomenal. Can’t wait to see it improved, both for bugs and for the additional features yet to come!

Someone correct me if I’m wrong so I can make a better decision.

The main reason I will lease my GDE is, if god forbid, Lucid goes under then I wouldn’t be stuck with a car with no support and lose 90% of its value like Fisker Oceans did.

I do plan to buyout the lease at the end if there’s no issues with the company.

Thoughts?

A while back @indigo6 posted:

According to the service advisor they have a new revision of key fob.

And we were told back in July, I think that there would be an update on September.

Lucid has said that there will be a software update in early September that they expect to fix the key issues.

This looks to me like they identified the problem and needed to work with Marquardt to get a fix ready (firmware, hardware, or both). Particularly if it was hardware, that would introduce a manufacturing delay that could be somewhat predictable...hence making the statement of a time frame to fix the issue.

It could also explain the paucity of fobs if they were trying to minimize the amount of rework as they continued to deliver the V1 fobs.

You’re correct. BofA has to take the car back at end of term. The caveat is you’re paying some sort of premium for that hedge. Depends on your calculations and personal opportunity cost.

GGT with standard Dreamdrive does not have access to the front camera? I see it on the vehicle but I cant access it
Am I doing something wrong and will it be available as a software upgrade?

I’d buy the newer model when the lease is up. The lease buyout may not be favorable based on how aggressive the depreciation has been with EV’s in general.

It’s actually unclear from the Lucid website whether you get front camera access or not with standard Dream Drive. Does it give you park distance sensors in terms of inches to object in the front? It’s supposed to do that, so I’m not sure how it would display that information without showing a front camera?

You can access it at low speeds/when parking by pressing the parking button on pilot screen - if you CAN access it with standard DD. I find mind (DDP) frequently does not turn on automatically at low speeds when parking. That’s disappointing as it’s one thing our R1S does well.

From reading the manual, front camera availability is not present on DD.

Glad I got DDPro, that front camera is super useful. On the Air it does turn on when it senses you slowing down to park or an object so I’d imagine the Gravity will do that soon.

It does do that now.

I've decided to skip my Gravity delivery and wait to see hat happens over the year. I have a leased R1S that is up is next November. I can either a) get one then new, b) get a used GDE that has likely depreciated $50k-60k.

Its hard to skip out and take on the level of fomo I'll have of all you taking deliveries, but fiscally doesn't make sense given we have a 2026 Model Y LE (owned) and a leased Gen2 R1S TriMax ending Nov 27. I leased the R1S due to delays in the Gravity.

Please keep the good times rolling here to help my fomo continue :)

That’s impossible to know today. Leasing almost never makes economic sense unless they’re are crazy incentives (and there aren’t on Gravity). If I buy in the end it will have cost about $140,000 over three years for a car that was about $122,000 today. You can do the math - it’s on the lease thread.

As I said, I am paying more to “hedge” two variables - one is Lucid and/or Gravity bombs out in next 36 months, I didn’t want to be left owning Gravity. Second is absurd luxury/high cost EV depreciation.

If I love Gravity in 35 months, I will buy a new one.

This is more or less my reasoning for my decision (90% made at this point) to lease my GDE. Especially the first part - I see the lease as a "rip cord" to get out of a buggy vehicle or a failing company without being fully, fully invested. I don't know that I agree as much on the depreciation point, because I believe that owning a vehicle and driving it forever makes the depreciation point moot, and I think you're paying for most of that depreciation in a lease anyways, though I agree there is a bit of a "hedge" on whether the residual will be competitive in 3 years.

I hate the fact that I have to pay a lot of interest in order to have that rip cord.... at Gravity lease money factors this is a whole lot of money. At least I get a $7500 credit on that though....

One other downside - I would most likely buy a new Gravity at the end of the term, because the pricing will probably have a lot more incentives and I'm guessing the newer vehicles will have improved a lot by then quality-wise, at least some of it down to hardware. But it will mean giving up my Dream Edition and the extra horses.....

For some reason, in our Air the parking camera does not come on as reliably or as early when maneuvering to park as it once did. We more often find ourselves having to hit the icon on the pilot screen to activate it. And in our Gravity we always had to hit it. I was thinking maybe that would change when it comes back from service, but apparently not if others are seeing the same thing.

It's one of those features I never knew I needed until we got the Air, which was our first car with parking distance displays and a birds-eye-view image. (Even our 2021 Model S Plaid did not have it until a software update that came a couple of years later.) Now I don't want to try to park a car without it.

If you have to pay for DreamDrivePro to get it, I would say that alone makes DDP worth it.

Found this in my center console today while looking for something else. I really hope there’s a much longer list they use at some point! This seems like early production list as it’s dated May and my car is stamped as a June build. Also, Draexlmaier is an OEM supplier, so not sure what they supply, but I guess they have their own checklist.

It looks like a checklist for just one stage of general assembly, there are similar checklists for each stage in assembly.

Within the past 10-12 days, both my GGT order (placed Nov 7) and my GDE order (placed March 11) both clicked over to "In Production" and I got VINs on both vehicles. I have since requested cancellation of the GGT and I am going all-in with the Dream Edition. A few comments that may be useful for others:
  • I have been told that my VINs are real VINs and not pre-VINs (I don't know what that means anyways) but as a word to the wise, I have been told that once the order clicks to "In Production" then your deposit becomes non-refundable. This is important to note because I received no communication that I was close to production and I also received no notification that the order went to "In Production." So beware that your order can flip to non-refundable status at any time without communication. There is no automated email that says your car is close to being slated for production, nor is there one when it flips over. The only way I found out was through my daily checks of the Lucid portal.
  • In addition to lack of proactive communication, I also struggled to get reactive responses to my inquiries once I noted my new status. My situation was complicated by the fact that my SA is on an extended personal leave, but I really struggled to get any attention at all until I got a different name of a responsive person at Lucid through another forum member. It took a week for me to get any traction. It seems the SA organization is not very well polished at this point. This complicates matters if you need to have a refund processed.
  • I have since cancelled one order and I am told that I will still get my refund, but it will be on an exceptional basis that has to be approved by the higher-ups. I am sure it helped that I decided to keep the DE and not the GT; and I don't know how it would go for someone if they only had a single order.
  • All that said, I did finally get a couple of calls over the weekend and I have been told that 30-45 days is typical from the date of "in production," but I was also told that my DE should be out of the factory in about a week, and I may even have it by the end of September (which would match the EOQ push).
All in all, this has been a frustrating wait and the SA/Customer Service org still needs a lot of work, but I am hopeful that I am finally close to being an owner.
