Gravity Delivery Discussion

Don't do the extended hitch!

As the diagram in picture IMG_6410 shows the max distance from the hole to ball centerline is 7.5 inches. Your trailer picture looks to be approx 14 inches. This will decrease the max tong load on the receiver attachment about 1/3 depending on the exact dimensions.

I'm a mechanical engineer and I'll make a little diagram of what's happening for you. I need a few more dimensions, I'll make a picture for you to fill in.
Pretty sure that's a Lucid marketing photo. lol.
Also might want some safety chains!

The only serious (from my perspective) issue I’ve had so far happened this morning. Had given myself *just* enough time to get from home to the office for a meeting; naturally this was the moment the dreaded key detection issue reared its head 😵‍💫

Neither the key fob or key card worked to unlock or otherwise interact with the car. While I was able to unlock the car with the app, I was unable to engage drive or reverse, instead presented with the ‘Key not detected’ warning. Tried shaking key, as advised in the warning message, to no avail. Tried the key card multiple times (b-pillar tap, as well as rubbing around on the charging patch in center console for phones). Nada.

Called customer support, and they were super helpful, ultimately pushing an update to the car within 15 minutes of my initial call. Odd that the update carried the same version number as what was already installed in the car (3.2.1) but I guess the overwrite did the trick (or there was a teeny code change that didn’t warrant a version number bump?)

Regardless, all works as expected now (repeatedly). Hope I’ve seen the last of that behavior. Missing my meeting wasn’t great, but in the scheme of things not such a biggie.
The "update" that they sent you wasn't actually an update. It was a reset. I had this issue 2 weeks ago and when I mentioned it to the CS person,(might have even been the one who sent the letter) that's what I was told. I was also told that this did not fix the issue and it could happen again. It's been 2 weeks and my key fob has worked fine ever since. Fingers crossed until they actually resolve the issue.

Soooo...was it the update that actually fixed it....or the rebooting process?

Has anyone experienced picking up an orphaned/cancelled DE?

Currently have a DE on deposit and want to try to grasp on the likelihood of grabbing an orphaned/cancelled DE before Sep 30.

Supposedly there was a AG DE at Cost Mesa, CA two days ago, but I was too late.

the Lucid receiver it DOES NOT FIT. Great - so likely will now need to buy a new ball or even better use my new R1S which is made for towing.

I think you may have the receiver in upside-down. If you look at the diagram @Elfin posted, the ball is required to be above the receiver hole.

Looks like more than 7.5" I guess it shows no one reads the manual.

I think you’re right but wow that’s a horrible diagram. At first glance it looks like the two balls are there to indicate the upper and lower bounds.

@HC_79, if this is your trailer, I think you're exceeding the tung weight. Scaling the picture using the 119" wheelbase I get about 12.6 inch hole to ball where it should be 7.5 inch maximum according to the diagram on the receiver. Scaling @Neilnaples pictures, I figure you should not put more than 481 pounds on the ball. The ball looks a little high which affects the 6000 lb tow but don't know how much.

I know, people exceed or ignore towing specs all the time. But remember, this is a unibody car, ie no frame, and it's all aluminum. I wouldn't exceed the specs.

That's a marketing photo. The Lunar Titanium Gravity is delayed until the winter, so no one has a Gravity that color yet.

😳 Ugh. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

I tried rebooting (three times) before relenting and calling customer service. It was the update that fixed (or I guess reset?) behavior. Definitely don't want to be in that situation again -- needing to be someplace, but at the mercy of the key fob connecting or not.

Yeah honestly that sucks and it’s such a stupid problem. I have no doubt they’re scrambling to resolve this and it’s great they responded to you so quickly. My experience with Lucid service has always been spectacular, so that’s helped me tolerate the glitches/failures. Keep us posted if there’s anymore key issues, wonder if there’s something with that software where it doesn’t recognize fob correctly once the vehicle has been delivered and owner officially registered to it in the system instead of Lucid. It would explain why @hmp10 Gravity GPS isn’t recognizing his location, like something isn’t completing the transfer of the vehicle from Lucid to the owner.

Frunk question.

When I tap the button on the panel to open the trunk, it attempts to open and then stop. I then tap the button again and it completely opens. Tapping the button a final time, closes it.

Is this by design? What does the first tap do? Or do I have some type of alignment issue?

You may have an alignment and/or latch issue. Our Air has been through several service visits to deal with the frunk either not opening or, once opening, not closing. In each case the complete failure was preceded by something similar to what you experienced.

The first time the problem was addressed by a mobile tech's adjustment of a latch. The second time was caused by the hinges loosening and going out of alignment. (That time the frunk wouldn't relatch, which put the car into limp mode requiring a tow to a service center.) The last time resulted in both the frunk struts and latches being replaced at a service center. The upshot is that we no longer use the frunk, as we just don't trust it.

I was hoping Lucid learned enough from Air frunk issues to have resolved them with the Gravity. But I harbored the same hope for the key fob issues, too . . . .

I am having the EXACT same issue! I called in for it and I believe they are going to have to send someone out for that. I think a seal or latch is not properly aligned. Should be an easy fix

You said Frunk question but then said trunk? Which is it? Is it the interior screen button responding this way or exterior trunk button or frunk manual button? I’m compiling a list of issues in the bugs thread so specifics would be helpful. The TRUNK in the Air’s exterior button to close the trunk on the inside of the trunk lid will sense a too firm press as an attempt to stop it from closing, that is by design, so just wanted to make sure that is not what you’re describing.
