Gravity Delivery Discussion

At least 2 Dream vehicles were delivered on 20/21 wheels.
One of those cars is Lucid’s. Hankook uses it to display the 20’s.

I haven’t heard of any Gravities with range wheels being delivered - maybe on the initial 10 last year?
There was one Dream Ed
I was told if I stayed with my GDE order with the range wheels it would be Fall at the earliest. That said, it’s a difference of 35+/- miles range, so I am fine getting the large wheels. Not a big enough range difference for me, but completely understand it’s different for everyone.

Plus we’ll have 450 with our GGT… 😀
The Orion wheels look great in person

Took my first mini road trip out of Dallas today. Stopped at Buccee's on the way back...decided to try out the Tesla Supercharger for the first time just to make sure it works (I had plenty of charge to get home--was more to satisfy my curiosity). I must say, it was quick and flawless. Plugged it in and was charging immediately. Started at 40% and it went almost immediately to 220kW and stayed there until the charge limit of 50% that I set. I had barely unwrapped my sandwich and gotten about 1/4 of it eaten before it was done with that 10% jump. It did it in about 4min. I unplugged it and got pinged with an email receipt from Lucid before I even got back in the car.

For those wondering: I believe the chargers at the Buccee's in Melissa where I stopped were the V4 type (with the V3 underpinnings). Please correct me if I'm wrong on that as I don't know a lot about Tesla superchargers as I've never owned a Tesla. They also had the Mercedes chargers next to these which are the really nice Alpitronics ones. I'll have to try those next time.

Wow! Sounds like a great success. So nice to hear people are getting amazing range and Tesla supercharger technology is well implemented in Gravity!

Stupid question, so apologies in advance, but Is there maybe a protective blue plastic film still attached to the HUD?
you know, that's the first thing I think of. I try investigating, but it does not look like there's a film on top. Traveling this week, so no time to book appointment to confirm this. I try using fingernail to see if there is a layer of plastic on top, but it does not feel like there's anything other than it being the plastic glass/plastic that's on top of the mirrors in the HUD projector.

I took Delivery of an Aurora Green, Tahoe, 21-22 Orion wheels, fully loaded but no tech in Houston today. I was a day one reservation holder, pivoted to first available vin. And wow. Was an amazing experience. Gravity exceeds all expectations. It’s not a minivan at all in person. Looks like an awesome hybrid of an SUV and a Euro Sports wagon in a really classy way. Tahoe in person is less orange. More baseball glove than Basketball but in between.
I was super excited for delivery and so were the team at the studio. They were very professional and the level of service was excellent.
The drive is advertised and on my way home going between 70-80 and heavy on the accelerator, was getting 3.18 m/kwh.
Only a few minor glitches with Bluetooth call and syncing contacts, but everything worked! Sound system is great. Handles amazing, super quiet in the cabin and exudes quality.
Fit and finish equal the higher quality leather options from Porsche. Zero squeaks.
I can add it was 95 and sunny and the AC was great and even with all that glass I was very happy with the fans on 3/10 and ac on 64 (not the lowest 59)
Dream drive pro 2 and auto lane change worked great on the highways. Fire away with questions.
CONGRATS!! DE #001. Nice.

Anyone who has driven Gravity also driven a Rivian? My R1S cameras are grainy and crappy, so I am used to that. Our X cameras are amazing. They make our Rivian cameras look like a daguerreotype. So as long as the Gravity isn’t worse than Rivian, I will be okay. The positioning also matters. As in, the view they provide.

I did do a demo drive but didn’t attention.
no Rivian. But X cameras were better. Especially at night. Also the initial frame rates for the left/right signal video in cockpit view were skipping. but a few grams and it seems back to normal like 30fps.

Back to HUD

1- are various reports of reflections thought to be related to just sun, orientation and lighting or are there hardware differences? Does anyone know if MBZ vs Porsche vs Korean etc are all the same tech ( beyond brightness )

2- polarized lenses are not all the same!
First there are two types of polarization: linear and circular. All other things the same; A-B test. you ( ie nearly everybody) can see a difference.
Second there are different materials and manufacturers; I am not sure how much difference there is.

Third tinting film on windows may also make a difference; I have no idea what happens with all those variables.
HUDS on my Porsche are super clear and sharp, but smaller area of display. and basic stuff. Same for JLR HUDs, there's enough reflection to still see the shiny plastics surrounding the opening, but the glass portion does not reflect back into windshield. But to be fair. both the JLR and VW HUD openings were fairly small compared to the huge opening for the Lucid. Maybe the extra real estate of the glass is the culprit?

Yes, you caught me slacking off, I couldn’t easily come up with the second customer vehicle…until now

The Mercedes uses nippon seiki. https://supplier.mercedes-benz.com/docs/DOC-2115
This HUD always looks great in my experience. With (according to Mercedes) the largest HUD display ever. I hope the lucid implementation gets on the same page.

Man what kind of sandwich did you get at Buccees? Love their snacks and admit their jerky is high quality but every sandwich I’ve tried I actually couldn’t finish cuz they were gross haha.

I have a MBEQS SUV 2023 with HUD. I can’t see it during the day when I have my polarized shades. It looks good at night. With this experience i am willing to forgo the HUD if it causes substantial delay.

I got the Tx philly cheesesteak burrito. It's pretty tasty. I do like their sliced beef BBQ sandwiches too.

I also forgot to mention. I did try out Dream Drive for the first time on this trip as well....which is my first-ever experience with any sort of autonomous driving. I must say, it very much exceeded my expectations. I used it for a total of about 30 miles and it made ZERO errors. Can't ask for much more than that! The only quirk I noticed during the trip (that made me laugh) was one of the cars on the display that was in the lane next to mine and a bit further down the road did two back to back spin out 360s on my screen. Obviously the car was not spinning out in real life but I found that to be entertaining. That being said, my car didn't seem to have any sort of reaction to that--whereas had that been occurring in real life, I probably would have been braking! Lol

Lucid Gravity – some minor software issues

HUD (Heads-Up Display):
IMG_5241.webp

The HUD is working fine. Some people have mentioned the visible borders, but from what I’ve seen, all HUDs tend to have them. It’s not distracting or particularly noticeable in daily driving.

Key Fob Issues:
There’s a recurring issue where the car displays a message to “shake the key fob to detect.” This has happened three times so far. The first two times, it resolved on its own. However, during a recent shopping trip, the issue persisted and left us stranded in the parking lot. A soft reset didn’t help.
I called customer support, and Phil was incredibly helpful — he walked me through the issue, pushed a software update, and followed up to make sure it went through. Big kudos for the excellent service.

Profile Switching:
Sometimes the driver profile randomly switches to the guest profile. Not sure what’s triggering it — likely a software bug.

Homelink:
Not yet available. I was told I’d receive an email prior to the update. For now, the regular garage opener is doing the job, so I’m fine waiting until Lucid pushes it out.

Doors / Opening Response:
The door opening reaction time feels a bit slow, and my wife especially finds the opening of the doors heavy and awkward to manage.

Wireless Phone Charging:
The wireless phone charging isn’t working — same issue I had with my Air Grand Touring. It’s disappointing that this problem persists across models, especially given how basic and expected this feature is today.

The last car I had, that had a HUD, was a 2021 BMW X5 plug-in hybrid. It didn’t have any surround like that – especially one that is white or off-white. I wonder if there’s a significance for it being that color, other than to cause an unsightly reflection on the windscreen.

The Gravity HUD looks better than the one on our Volvo V60 Polestar. That one is smaller with less features, but is adjustable whereas Gravity isn’t yet, but Gravity turn directions are better like more oriented like how the road is going rather than just a map arrow, and I cannot get over how useful the blind spot monitor for the HUD is, like you’re looking straight ahead but know if there’s someone in your blind spot without changing your gaze at all. Great idea. 💡

Just speculation, but I think the problem is the border material of the HUD is highly reflective. One solution would be for Lucid to wrap the HUD trim in alcantara or dinamica material to minimize reflection, or to use a different module with less reflective trim material.

This is from my 2019 BMW x5 50 M. The HUD has a similar reflection but the borders are smaller because it’s smaller than the one in gravity. In the BMW we can still adjust the location of the numbers which still is not available in gravity as of now as mentioned by @Bunnylebowski the color of the numbers is possibly secondary to reflection. Actual color of the numbers and indicators is white.
