Floor mats!

Today, for the first time, I took our portable Bissell carpet machine (filled with Bissell Oxyclean solution) to our off-white Santa Monica floor mats.

Although we don't have to deal with snow and winter muck in Florida, we do have to deal with heavy rains that sometimes leave a blackish oil emulsion on parking lot surfaces. Consequently, the floor mats were getting a bit dingy. Our car has almost 16,000 miles on it, and I've never used Scotchgard or any other protectant on the mats. We have rear seat passengers in the car at least twice a week and a front passenger more often than not, so all the mats see a good bit of traffic.

I love the light vibe the floor mats bring to the interior but was worried that they would not keep their good looks very long. That worry is pretty much by the boards now.

Here is the front floor mat after the shampoo. (That tan plug is an anchor that secures the mat in place, as the Lucid system is not up to the task.)

I’d have to agree. Bissell keeps texting me and emailing me with discount coupons, and believe me, I’m tempted every time, most especially after I see pictures like these.

Thanks for posting these pictures. I’m tempted more than ever not only to spring for a Bissell, but to remove the Lucid all-weather grey mats altogether, and just not worry about it anymore.

Five months into owning my Lucid Air, it’s turning out that I’m the only one who enjoys it. It’s a good thing too because the Lucid is now my daily driver as well as my commuter car.

After their initial excitement of my acquring a new car, and their being seen getting in and out of something so beautiful and still so rare, all my family have cooled to the charms of the Lucid. The car sits too low, it’s a hassle to get in and out of, blah, blah, blah. Today, my family can take it or leave it. My boyfriend on the other hand, utterly resents the car, believing that in all things that I love, the Lucid Air ranks above him…curiously I’m not denying this.

All the above to say, since 95% of the time I am the sole occupant of my Lucid Air GT, I might as well not worry about soiling the fair coloured Santa Cruz carpet and carpet mats. If I’m the only one occupying my car most of the time, why worry about those light coloured mats getting soiled? I can always clean them with the Bissell, and besides, the interior gleams like a jewel when that light coloured carpeting is allowed to be seen.

To be fair, my mats were dingy but not nearly as grimy as some mats others have posted from messier climates. And we didn't have the food and other spills that can come with kids in a car.

But I have to say our little Bissell portable, which we bought to deal with pets in the house, can be formidable for small areas. It's even gotten a big red wine spill out of an off-white wool shag rug. (The machines are not particularly robust, and we're on our second one after fairly light duty. However, they last longer than any Dyson vacuum we've ever owned -- and they're a lot cheaper.)

It seems to me that the Air floor mats are of very high quality -- easy to clean (up to a point) and very long-wearing. There is almost no wear at the spot where I rest my accelerator heel. I'm guessing that in our case I can keep them looking good at least up until 30,000 miles on the car. When the time comes to replace them, I now think I'll stick with the original mats in the original light color because they really do lighten up the interior vibe.

I see I'm not the only one looking the 30,000 miles down the road. I just received a brand new set of Santa Cruz mats. I ordered them as a future replacement set. I'm keeping them boxed, in a closet, knowing they'll be readily at hand at that 30,000 mile mark.

Thanks for your remark about the right heel area. I've bored holes right in that area, in scores of carpet floor mats.

My gray 3D mats arrived today. They look good. Gonna give weathertech a run for their money. I have owned weathertech mats since 2007. I really like the looks of the 3D mats. I will find out tomorrow when I put them in. Again, thank you to all who introduced 3D to this forum.

I received the grey 3D Mats last week for the Santa Cruz interior. They look great! Much better than the Lucid Air mats that only cover half of the carpeting. And they are about 1/2 the price of the Air mats from Lucid.

Got the gray ones today! I have a Touring - at first I was worried that the rear ones are gonna be so out of alignment. But it actually doesn't look half bad! Sure it's not a perfect fit - I folded a towel to put in the middle area where the mat props up a bit, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with it. I have a Mojave interior and really like matching with the gray ones.

Just put in my Gray 3D mats. They are perfect. As bad as this sounds. They will be my summer time mats. We are having lousy weather here in the North West. I do not want to diminish the 3D mat appearance. Still plan on using my All Weather “Weather Techs” for now. These 3D mats trump Weather Tech mats. They actually look elegant and compliment the Lucid intereior. Just my opinion.
