Electrify America charging free?

Thanks! If there is any extra charge (like idle charge?? maybe?) how will it charge me? Will I be asked for my credit card on the station console? Ultimately, Is there any reason or benefit to use the EA app with or without login?
There can be times when you might want to use the EA app, but if you have free charging, I would suggest that you actually avoid setting up an account, and loading your credit card information. You can still use the EA app to do things like checking out station availability and specific charger performance, but you can also do that in the Lucid (and others) app. My point is that the 'handshake' between EA and the car requires no app sign-up, and in the event of some kind of communication problem between the two, I don't want to risk the EA system defaulting to a paid charge. I have charged a lot of times, and never missed having an activated EA app.

As far as idle fees go, there you be none charged with the promo, but more importantly...PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE! Nothing is more annoying than waiting for a charger while some fool has their car just sitting there taking up a space. I would never go there, and I wouldn't be surprised to find my car 'keyed' if I did!

Of there is a "handshake" issue, you may have to confirm the EA charger through the Lucid app - not the EA app. As stated before, if you really have free charging, don't put any info into the EA app.

Thanks for all the insight! I started with EA app and created an account w/ free membership level. After the suggestion to bypass the app, I tried doing the direct plug in without any authorization with my EA account, it works as you all suggested! Looking at the EA app, I believe it is not linked to my Lucid at all even those I used the same email address to registered on both Lucid and EA side. Sounds like they work independently. I assume once my promotion ran out in 11 months, I could either use the EA app or credit card to pay on the spot at that time.

You're welcome! You are probably right about there being no link between the Lucid/EA set-up and the independent EA app, but I just didn't want to take the chance. BTW, in case you had not caught it elsewhere in the forum, users who have had a really persistent 'handshake' problem, to the point where they eventually just went ahead and paid via credit card, report that they notified Lucid, who then reimbursed them. If you do have a handshake problem, open the Lucid app, and the charging station you are plugged into typically shows up right on the app, and there is a button to verify your Lucid/EA account from there. There used to be a lot of such handshake problems, but I haven't had one in a few months now.

Hi, new 2022 GT owner here. Just bought my car used, app says the car still has more than a year of complimentary charging left (even though Lucid Customer Care said the promo doesn’t transfer to a second owner)

So tonight I decided to test it out. Was able to plug and charge right away, but when I finished, the charger listed a Total Session Cost of $4.62. With my last car (BMW i4), session cost was always “$0.00” and the charger listed “BMW Complimentary Charging.”

The charging session isn’t showing on my Lucid app at all and my credit card wasn’t charged (i never used the EA app, which has my CC info in it). Do you guys think the old owner was charged? Or do the chargers always show a total session cost even for the free promo?

Keep in mind: Only first 30 min of EA charging is free. After that u will get charged. So I unplug my car at 29 min and no charge. I accidentally forgot one time and was charging for 40 min while I was at a restaurant and got a nominal charge from EA even though I have free charging.

I’ve never been charged on road trips and been plugged in at least 1 hour…… many times in the last year. From my experience free is free without time limit.

I have never heard of, nor experienced, a 30 minute time limit. Was the charge possibly idle fees?

True for VW and other brands. Not true for Lucid. At least not Lucids that have a free charging plan.

I purchased a Lucid Air Touring in Dec 2023. I did not think that any free charging from electrify america was included. However to my suprise, doing my first DC charge at EA, the receipt showed $0. In my Lucid app chargin history it shows $0 for my first charge even though at the EA pump it showed me a rate for charging / kwh. I does not appear that my credit card has been charged either.
When I go into Lucid app and charging tab and service history - it does not say anything about the promotional period of charging. Any idea what is going on? I've read on the forums that Lucid has extended the free charging promo for 1 year on Touring purchases before end of 2023 but cannot see any confirmation on Lucid's official website.
Lucid no longer advertises the free EA despite giving it to every owner. The old App prior to the update used to show this even when they didnt advertise it. This is how I found out. My service advisor even told me the promo ended and EA would not be free.

Either way, I think they stopped advertising it as EA got a bad rap for having awful reliability. It has gotten better though since. Enjoy the free charging! It is a nice perk. I've owned 4 electric cars and I have never NOT had free charging so I will be sad to lose it eventually in the next couple years as this is a bonus that has been ending for many manufacturers as of late. (But it should as it clogs up chargers)

It should be 2 years of free charging I believe. That is how my AGT was when I bought a '23 in Feb of 2024.

PS: There is no 30 min time limit. I charge beyond 30 mins constantly. $0.

Charging as I write this. 82% charged and $21.05 so far. Up until two weeks ago, charging at this exact location was free. But today all of a sudden I’m getting charged.

My car was towed to lucid service center and a whole bunch of updates were done. I’m wondering if because of these updates, the free charging went away.

What did you purchase and how many years of free charging were you supposed to get?

Lucid Air Pure 2023, Dec 2023. Didn’t get anything mentioned specifically about free charging, but free was working well until 2 weeks ago.

Well...If free charging wasn't specifically included in your purchase, I'd say you are ahead already with 6 months of free charging =)

I got my 2023 Air Pure at the end of November, 2023. At that time, the Pure was supposed to come with one year of free EA charging. (I think that the Touring was getting two years and the Grand Touring was getting three years.)

I charged at EA this morning at no charge. Are you sure the amount you referenced actually got posted to one of your credit cards?

Did you do plug-and-charge? Or did you have to use the EA app?

I just bought a used 2022 Grand Touring. Even though the EA unit says it’s charging me x dollars, it’s not actually charging a credit card because I didn’t use my EA app. Lucid customer case told me it’s most likely a glitch and I should enjoy the free charging.

Yeah I would confirm if you’re actually charged afterwards. May show it on screen but it actually isn’t charged and is $0.00

That 30 min limit does not apply to Lucid. It applies for sure to Hyundai, Kia, Genesis.

Not using the EA app. Direct plug in.
