EA Megathread

I received the email that states free charging ends 5 February, but my order info in the financial documents shows that I have the EA promotion. Delivery date was 31 March 2024. Any way to fix this?

Your purchase or lease agreement will indicate whether your vehicle was enrolled in a complimentary plan and what the terms are. If you feel as if a mistake has been made, please contact Customer Care.

If I remember correctly, my Pure did not come with any Lucid sponsored charging, and my paperwork does not refer to any. However, I did get free charging the few times I needed it from a promo from EA which was 1 year of 1000 KW. I only charged 2 times, so I am nowhere near my limit, and I guess EA is allowed to change the deal if they see fit. My app used to show the 1 year, now it doesn't.
For my usage not a big deal, but I can see it effecting others greatly. I have a municipal Level 3 charger walking distance from one of my homes and it is less than half of the EA price, so I can always use that to top off if I need it.

Same issue. Responded with email. I have screenshots that I have 1 year unlimited charging.

Hope to get more info. soon.

I bought my car August 13 2024. I did not read my contract. I was under the impression that I had 1 year of free Ea charging. I have only used it twice. Now my app shows that my free charging expires on Feb 5. Strange thing is that I read another message by blue lectoid asking us to enter our credit card and to an upgrade. I did do this a few days ago. I am not sure that upgrade resulted in free plan ending early. I don’t care about this as I don’t drive much and charge at home. I have put in 2500 miles 5 months. Over 500 of this miles were done when I visited Nashville for a MN Vikings game.

Hm, my app used to show "Active" and cost as "Retail Rate", but now it has changed to showing a year from my purchase date (up to 1000kwh). It is as promised, for now anyway :)

So I got the email saying everything expires on feb 5.

I have run the API on my 2022 GT to double check my entitlement and I ‘m not sure which values to drive the ea free charging expiration :

"easubscription": {
"name": "EA",
"expirationDate": "after feb5",
"startDate": "date of purchase",
"status": "CURRENT"
},

Or:

"chargingAccounts": [{
"status": "ENROLLED",
"createdAtEpochSec":"day before purchase",
"expiryOnEpochSec":"feb 5", "vendorName":"ELECTRIFY_AMERICA",

So which one is the actual one I should trust?

Was just looking at making one last trip to EA to get one last free charge on my Air, but look at the state of EA in CA Bay Area! Almost every single station full at 10:30AM on a Monday. Lol. EA has really become unusable in recent months.

Being able to Supercharge the Gravity is going to be such a game changer for Lucid!

I received the same Jan 5 expiration email. But I contacted Lucid CS and they confirmed it was not explained correctly. I have EA Charging until 2026. It was the idle fee that will get charged apparently.
🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyone know what the below dates mean?

Field 4, status: SUBSCRIPTION_STATUS_CURRENT (1)

The number in any of the date fields is the number of seconds since something called the UNIX epoch. The expiration date there is Wednesday, June 30, 2027 3:13:10 PM GMT.

You can convert any UNIX time using, for example: https://www.epochconverter.com/

The text of email I received was different. It read:
"Your Lucid Air [VIN] is currently enrolled in 3 years of complimentary charging with Electrify America, scheduled to end on 09/24/2025.

Beginning February 5th, 2025, idle fees incurred pursuant to your Electrify America Plan will no longer be waived and you will be responsible for any idle fees incurred while using Electrify America charging locations (prices may vary). Please add a valid credit card to your Lucid Wallet by February 5th to retain your complimentary charging privileges.*

Lucid Wallet is accessible in the owner portal on the Lucid website under the Account Info tab (scroll down past Contact Info and Security Settings).

Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have questions."

I added the bold formatting for emphasis. The email was clear that this was simply a change related to idle fees. It's interesting/odd that different emails were sent out to customers.

I suspect EA and EVGo will not be long for the world when all vehicles have a standard NACS port and access to the Supercharger network. The Tesla locations are just bigger and not as crowded.

I’ll take 225kW on the Gravity any day compared to waiting an EA location that’s full where I’ll never get 350kW because the location operates on balanced power.

We need a more EA flagship buildings like the one in San Francisco Harrison st with 20 chargers. The ones by me in the Peninsula are also jammed packed on weekends and evening rush hour. Thankfully, I don't work anymore and it's not so busy during the day but if I forget to charge and it's the weekend then I'm screwed.

That location is nice but I got so mad when I visited it last. Waited about 10 mins for a car to leave and then when I plugged in I walked around and about 10 cars were above 90% SOC. Just felt like saying “GTFO and allow those who need to charge, charge” 😐

EA limits charging at 85% at some locations if they are heavily used. Send EA comment requesting limitation

My brother has a 2018 Tesla Model 3 that by now has less than 300 miles of EPA range. A friend has a Chevy Bolt EUV with 247 miles of EPA range. Another friend just switched from a VW ID.4 with 260 miles of EPA range to a Volvo XC30 with 253 miles of EPA range. None of these cars get that range in real-world highway driving.

On road trips they all charge to 95% or more, my brother to avoid too many charging stops and my two friends because the issues with CCS charging make it risky to let charge drop too low before planning the next stop.

Few EVs have range approaching Lucids, and their owners should not be chastised for wanting to charge to higher levels, especially if on a road trip.

Frankly, I think it's despicable that EA would set charging limits in a shabby attempt to address miserable conditions (out-of-service equipment, too few stalls, low power output) at so many of their charging stations.

Yeah, I try not to judge other people's motives with charging. Some folks really do need 95% or 100% to get to their next destination.

I once had to charge all the way to 100% to ensure I could get through Wyoming, even with my Lucid. Of course, I did that at 10pm, when there were no other cars around waiting to use the chargers.

I don't have a problem with EA or whoever charging more to go beyond 80%. If they doubled the price, even, for that last 20%, I think that would be fair. And likely educational for folks who don't do their research to realize why that last 20% takes so much longer.

But to limit the charge altogether, I think that's a bad precedent to set.

The fact is, we're going to have growing pains with charging for at least another decade before all of this gets worked out. It took that long or longer for gas stations to be set up around the country, too. Though many of us aren't old enough to remember.

Much as we all would like EA to expand and be better, remember that EA was formed as a settlement for VW cheating on emissions testing. It is not profitable at this time and it's hard to envision them coming up with cash or partners to fund a large expansion - especially with the recent NACS agreements which will require retrofitting existing stations. I understand the argument but it doesn't seem unfair to limit charging to 85% if all the stations are in use. People on long trips may have to make more stops but the time spent charging will actually be less. Small comfort I know but if you roadtrip with in EV, range should be a consideration.
