There is not a single car in production that has the new version. I imagine it will be a couple of years to get everything ironed out for carmakers that wish to use it.

I believe manufacturers will jump on board as soon as it is available and start using it. I am sure it wont be bug free but it will be the latest and greatest. My guess is Lucid working on the new version of CarPlay, not the old version. Why waste resources on something that will be outdated in a few months

The new version isn't a given. It's basically a car company giving all control to Apple and i'm not sure how comfortable they are in doing that. It makes no sense for a car company to develop it's own UI\UX if they're just going to allow the new CarPlay. Even though BMW was listed as supporting it they've come out recently and said they're not going all in. If Apple wants CarPlay like they're presenting the new one then they should make their own car. I doubt anyone will go 100% in on it.

It doesn't compliment the car it's running on, it fully takes over it. Its therefore a competing OS and you don't open your doors to a competitor if you want to keep control of your ecosystem.

I think we are all adults and can handle “we are having a hard time obtaining Apple approval and we are trying to get CarPlay active by March”. Instead, we have to rely on “I know a guy who knows a guy who works at Lucid and he says that we will have CarPlay by March”.

If you have ever done anything in partnership with Apple, you know publicly saying “We’re having trouble getting their approval” is a sure fire way to get on their $h!t list permanently. Might be the worst possible thing you could say. You’d be better off saying “Tim Cook is ugly and has poor taste in shoes.”

I guess I just don’t see the benefit of making statements that set expectations when you don’t have any way to know you can meet those expectations. It feels like you are training your customers to not believe you.

If Lucid were to say tomorrow they hope to ship CarPlay by March, would anyone believe that meant CarPlay is coming in March? I wouldn’t.

It’s not a few months. It’s likely a year, if you’re lucky. Apple’s APIs might be ready late this year, but getting your team to implement them and then get approved is no simple process. Especially if you’re not already on the “list” of automakers Apple is already partnering with for their debut. Getting their attention is not going to be easy if you’re Lucid.

I know that you like to compare Lucid to Apple, a lot of the time I agree. However, Apple is the 1,000 pound gorilla and Lucid is the mouse. Apple doesn’t have to do things that a new company does. Lucid needs each and every one of us to be their best advocates and when they break communication, they lose trust and cause frustration.

Try saying to your spouse what you said above.

No, I wouldn't believe them at this point in time. Where's the remaining equipment for the V2H they showed off when launching the Air? Where's the cable to allow bi-directional charging? Stems back to Lucid's poor communication and they have a long way to go to improve it. It's clear they would rather remain silent than give anyone an update on anything.

Umm. Wasn’t comparing Apple to Lucid. You suggested Lucid should make a statement telling us they can’t get Apple to approve. And I said that was a bad idea. For what I think are very obvious reasons.

Your contention is that Lucid is better off saying things like “We’re trying to get this done by March.” Or “we think we’ll ship that in April.”

I guess I’m struggling with what I see as a paradox here.

You want Lucid to communicate more. But you don’t believe what they tell you anyway.

They give predictions about bi-directional charging, CarPlay, etc, miss those updates, and that constitutes “poor” communication. Then they stop saying anything, and that’s also “poor” communication.

Seems the only way for them to win is to make a prediction publicly, and then meet that prediction 100% of the time. If they miss the deadline, there’s literally nothing that will make customers happy? So what’s the difference how they choose to communicate?

Feels like the problem here is getting things out the door, not how they talk about it.

I was giving just giving an example. Nobody actually knows what is going on in this case because Lucid doesn’t say. This is my whole point.

I think that people would be a lot more forgiving for them not getting things like CarPlay out the door if they communicated about it. More communication is always the solution to no communication. I know this because I watch Dr. Phil!

It’s fair for people like @HC_79 to want communication, while remaining skeptical. Dream Edition people have had it tougher than any of us and all they had to go on was hyperbole and promises. The rest of us had a very good idea what the journey would look like. I’m still happy to be on the journey, as long as Lucid starts telling me what the road map is.

It literally cannot be worse than Alexa.
This seriously is the worst thing about my Lucid and I would hope they will want to correct it soon.

My thoughts are Car Play and Android Auto will mean a revision to the entire software branch. It’s not a simple feature to roll out. On top of that I think when I comes out, it will be at a minimum a 2.1 or a 3.X version.

With a major change like this, they would include a lot of fixes and features and have a lot more testing than the standard bug fix test. On top of the fact they are still pumping out critical safety related fixes to the 2.0 version that might need to be included in the next version.

Based on the critical nature of the bug fixes released lately and the slow roll of major feature updates released, I’d guess, and a Car Play and Android Auto with other highly requested features like Sentry and charge scheduling are included 3.X version with other features is on the near term horizon.

Lucid’s focus for years has been production. They are not dumb and know how far behind they are when it comes to software. They have hired to swiftly correct that deficiency based on a little LinkedIn review of who is at Lucid and when they were hired at Lucid Motors. I really do expect big things in the coming year from Lucid when it comes to software and new features, and feel like they are planning the big release of feature laden software soon.

Well, if you are going to quote what I posted, please include the context. Peter said this late July/early August last year in an earnings call and Derek Jenkins made his statement about year-end last Fall. For me, it isn't about how big a task it is. It isn't like they just woke up recently and thought, "Gee, wouldn't it be great if the car could actually do what we say it is "compatible" with", whatever "compatible" means, a bit misleading if you ask me. That is yet another issue. I really can't believe that language still remains on their website.

I did not have CarPlay in my last car (too old), so CarPlay, to me, is just something to play around with to see if I like it any better than what is currently there. It is not #1 on my priority list, but it just shows progress.
