Best home wifi router?

No, I have a UDM and 4 AP's hardwired, perfect mesh system. Amplifi is awesome but the consumer version, true Unifi is super robust and really awesome if you delve deep into it. Only thing I would say is get the UDM pro if you really want max potential and power. The mesh Wifi is seamless and super powerful.
UniFi mesh isn’t a true performant mesh system. It cuts performance in half as it’s not a triband setup with dedicated bands for mesh traffic. I have a fairly robust Unifi configuration myself, but you’ll want to hardwire each AP for best performance.

Personally, I own a UXG-Pro, 2 Mesh Pros, 1 HD Wall, 2 Lites and 1 nanoHD alongside quite a few 2.5 and fiber switches.

+1 to Ubiquiti and the Amplifi line, however is it overkill for most, as is any Mesh line above $400 or so. I use it myself, and inject my gigabit into our coax with MoCA adapters.

If you're set on a new setup, I would just preorder the new Google Nest Mesh Wifi Pro with Wifi 6E and keep it cheap and simple.

Even with my current setup and an iPhone 13 Pro, I only hit about 550/550 a few feet from my access point and 980/980 wired. Interference from other sources (neighbors/cell towers) play a huge role in your wi-fi experience. Try not to fall for the flashy marketing.

Keep in mind that gigabit speeds are only helpful for long sequential transfers. 4k Netflix and such do just fine at 50mbps Home Internet. Latency and packet loss is a different story, though.
What router would you recommend for home? It would also need good range as the house is one level with ~ 3500 sq ft and it's located in the study on one end of the house. A few phones (Apple), tablet (Android), & couple laptops (Windows 10). No home office. I don't think I would want Nest & the like but maybe I should.

If you’re looking for a simple setup, UniFi has some new affordable product lines that can start you out in a pretty solid direction.

FWIW: I’d avoid Google and Amazon products for home networking like the plague if you value any form of privacy what so ever.

Been using this in two locations for the last 9 months. Upgraded from an old Eero system.

They have a software controller you can run to program and control all the APs.
