Curious to see if my situation is typical. I'm sharing a lot of detail (maybe too much?), but history and coverage differences can have a huge impact.

2023 Lucid Air Pure AWD - MSRP of $96.6k, but paid $75.2k + tax & fees. (Was told that my insurer (Acuity) insisted on insuring at MSRP instead of the price paid, whatever that means. My guess is the 'if totaled' value would be about half the MSRP. )

Two drivers, and insuring two cars. I'm 75 and wife is 76. Both of us have flawless driving records with no 'at fault' accidents in our lives. (I got rear ended about 9 years ago.) Solid financial scores. Car is based in our Tempe, AZ residence. (My rates had a significant uptick when we moved from North Scottsdale to Tempe, despite a huge reduction to our annual mileage. I was told due to population density, proximity to the university, and local accident/theft rates, although the car is parked in a very secure location.)

Lucid's annual premium due this week - $2,112. It was $1,692 when the car was first insured in 12/23. (Our other Tempe car (2002 Lexus SC430) is $847/year. Same coverage.) Been with the carrier since 2020, so some loyalty discounts are in place.

Here's the coverage...

Liability - $500k per person/$500k per occurrence
Uninsured motorists - $500k each person/$500k each accident
Underinsured motorists -$500k each person/$500k each accident (In each of the above, the $500k is required by my personal liability umbrella.)
Comprehensive deductible - $250 (No specific glass coverage. To be handled here.)
Collision deductible - $2,500

Agent looked at alternative carriers, and we explored coverage changes, but this came out as optimal. Reasonable? Doesn't seem so to me.

Here are the factors for your insurance:
1. Obviously what you are insuring
2. Driving record
3. Your carrier. Very few are exclusive and obviously most are not. USAA, you must be honorably discharged or retired from military. USAA has, by far, the best rates and services.
4. Location, location, location
5. Family members living in the same home. This can affect your insurance as well.

I hope this helps but, most likely very obvious.

You're not far off mine and I'm in CA but mine is for a 2023 Air GT. Annually, mine is $2,600 and funnily enough it actually dropped at my last renewal ( I was shocked). Compared to yours my coverages are $300K with $500 deductible for glass and $1500 deductible for collision. The problem with insurance is it seems to all come down to the time of day or month you call them. I swear they have a dartboard in the office and whatever the dart lands on seems to be the price you pay 😂. People in the same vicinity can be paying less or more which just doesn't make sense (even with everyone having clean driving records etc.).

As stated above if you are a veteran move to USAA. I won't upset you by posting my numbers.

Wish I could. I was 1A for a full year in the early 70s, but never got called up, despite a middling lottery number. We lived in Saratoga for 12 years, and we had great rates there, as well. The party was over for the cars that we moved to Arizona.

Similar in NYC to your rates in California

mine is $2,500/yr on a $1K deductible

I at 1200 per year with Geico, Lucid Touring, 2.5k deductible, no glass coverage. Every time you make a claim, your rates go up. I figured any small repairs 5k and less I will pay out of pocket. No point claiming for a $5000 repair , I would suggest you up your deductible. The $500 deductible that is ingrained in our society is so you make even very small claims and gives a reason for insurance to jack up prices. It’s a big scam.

Mine is with State Farm 2600/yr in AZ which is a $400 increase from last year. I keep thinking Im going to change since they were so far off the repair estimate on a street ding. Coverage is about the same as Buffalo Bob reported. 2022 AGT

I live in AZ (PV) as well. My insurance premium/coverage are "similar" if I "normalize" it to my specific cars (2022 AGT/2023 Rivian R1S). I use StateFarm. With I think my deductibles are less than yours. I also get some discounts from SafeDriver monitors.

If I remember correctly, I think you drive long distances to the Pacific NW to stay/visit grandkids. I travel between AZ and CA (Marin) to my two homes. When I am away from AZ, I put one of my cars (rotating between the Lucid and the Rivian) in "storage" (i.e., in your garage, not being driven, still covered for "non-moving" damages). That can substantially reduce your insurance bill. Perhaps you are doing that already.

My quote from USAA is a little under $1600 / year for me and wife. With discounts, will end up being around $1400 / year. This is for the Gravity Grand Touring. This is with $500k/500k coverage. I posted mine on another thread with the actual screen shot. Obviously SaratogaLefty is a MUCH nicer person than I.

PURE is much more expensive than any of the above, but the service is comparably incomparable. Also, agreed value, no fighting when something happens, etc.

YMMV, and you get what you pay for.

USAA is great; no complaints there, I just don’t have access.

Yeah that may have been good 20 years ago when you could actually repair a newish car for that price. Even an econo sh*tbox is going to cost more than 1K to repair anything these days.

You arent doing too badly according to Market Watch. AZ average car insurance is $2600 for a new Toyota (used for state to state comparison). Insurance just has gotten very expensive. And then good luck getting them to pay in event of a claim

$2,100 / year '25 AT ($101k value), NJM (insurer in NJ, very reputable), $250k/$500k/$100k for both liability and uninsured/underinsured, PIP limit $250k, my health insurance has primary, full glass no deductible (!), $500 deductible on collision, $200 comprehensive deductible.

I am in Phoenix and my last State Farm six month renewal was $1,118.21 ($2,236.42 on an annual basis). My next renewal is $1,227.93 ($2455.86 annually). $500 comprehensive and collision, $0 glass deductible.

Switching both cars from a $2,500 deductible to $5,000 would have saved me a whopping $34/year!

I may bitch about my overall insurance bill, but the one major claim I've had in my life was such a surprisingly favorable experience. I was with National General at the time, and there was a major hail storm in North Scottsdale that destroyed the foam roof and skylights of our house, and dented our Genesis sedan. Fortunately, there was no water intrusion. Once the claims adjusters were done, I found myself on the phone with Nat Gen arguing that they were paying me way too much! Never expected that! Unfortunately, they dropped covering AZ shortly thereafter.

On your recommendation, I did get a quote from Pure. Their vehicle and umbrella coverage was a pretty reasonable increase given their premium service reputation, but our condo was the killer. While the HOA's blanket coverage would handle everything up to the drywall, they amount Pure wanted for interior finish and contents was more than the appraised value of the condo, and that was not counting any increased jewelry and artwork coverage. All in all, it would have been close to double our overall premium. I would have gone for a 1/3 increase, but not that.

I'm also in Arizona. 2023 Touring. N. Scottsdale. Two drivers. Clean records.

Last year I had Acuity (and several years prior), on my November renewal they had a pretty big increase so I switched to Travelers. I have mostly the same coverage levels as you except I have full glass and 1K comp/collision and med pay. $1450/yr for the Lucid.

Your rate isn't terrible. And Acuity is a really good company.

But, insurance is HIGHLY personal. Tempe is always more expensive. I also have three cars, a home, umbrella, and personal articles policies with Travelers.

Pure is great. If you want another option that is also at that level try Chubb. Either will cost you a bit more than the mainstream carriers, it may it may not be worth it to you.

My agent checked Travelers, among others. The vehicles came in a little cheaper, despite the Tempe risk premium, but our condo and and umbrella premiums were much higher. I get at least some part of these dramatic increases to home and auto premiums, but the relative jump of umbrella insurance baffles me.
