So my usual thing with a new car that has a digital key is to try to use it exclusively but I also keep the real key with me wrapped in foil (I know) for a certain amount of time so I don't get stuck if the phone key doesn't work. I've only had my car a few days but the digital key on my Pixel 8 Pro has been 100% reliable. In fact, I'm amazed. Is this just me, have I gotten lucky for now, or is the digital key on the current car software (2.5.4) especially with a P8P really just that good?

Same thing with my Pixel 7. I keep the Lucid card in my wallet just in case, but have not used it yet. (I'll bet you let the app run in the background.) My only issue is that I have to turn off the 'community' wi-fi in my high-rise in order for the app to wake the car from inside my condo unit. This seems to be a problem that a number of others, I think even across platforms, are experiencing.

yup I have all permissions granted for the app including always run in background and probably always location access. I need to check but I don't think it kills my battery like some of the other car apps. I think I'll switch to the lucid card as backup after today. I haven't had any issues with waking the car from the app (live in a house and didn't have any issues before I joined the car to my house wifi or after .. cell signal is pretty weak outside my house but so far, zero issues). gotta say I'm really impressed by their digital key.

I wish I had my own dedicated home wi-fi, as I would be able to play with settings adjustments, but turning off the car's wi-fi is not a big deal to me.

The app seems to unlock the doors quite well when first approaching the car, and always locks the doors when leaving. However, if I leave to run into a store, or anything wherein I'm gone for just a short period of time, the app seems a bit hesitant to unlock the doors. My guess is that it's not sure if you are just puttering around nearby, or if you really want to enter the car. In such a case, I find that rotating my phone a few times as I approach the car does the trick.

Bluetooth radios take a decent bit of power, so phones tend to “sleep” them if the phone isn’t actively being used. Rotating your phone activates the gyros in the phone and constitutes “a person is holding me and using me” and thus the Bluetooth is not asleep.

Mine works just about all the time. It took me a while to trust it, but I'll now sometimes go places without the fob.

Mine works too well <g> just walking toward the front of my condo will get me a hello. I have a Pixel 9, so it appears that Pixel phones work pretty well. (maybe Google can approve AA first for just Pixel users JK)

Maybe I should give that a try again, with proximity unlock turned off so that the car isn't always twitching as I walk past it in the garage. Pixel 9 pro here.

Rather than go inside the car, I just toggle Bluetooth off when I'm puttering around nearby.

My Pixel 9 Pro XL works smoothly as a mobile key. My previous phone, the Pixel 6 never worked very well as a mobile key. I would stand outside the car with the app open waiting and waitng for the confirm unlock screen. After getting caught in the rain without my fob, I gave up on the Pixel 6 as a key. Over 2 years of aggrivation ended instantly when I upgraded my phone to the 9.

Mobile key with my Samsung Galaxy S24 has worked well, although sometimes I have to hit the phone power button while in my pocket to trigger it (not a big deal). Mobile key with my prior Samsung Galaxy S22 never worked and required me to open the app every time to unlock the door.
