Anybody else get a big data download yesterday?

Eero works great for me. I used to have Orbi and experienced weekly crashes and took advantage of Costco‘s generous return policy and got my $600 back. I also set up MoCA (in a nutshell MoCA uses existing coaxial cables in my home, and with an adapter converts to gigabit ethernet). This allows each node in the mesh to communicate with each other over ethernet versus using wireless backhaul method. I’m sure wireless backhaul would work fine, but ethernet is definitely very stable.

I had hard wired my Eeros as well and they worked fine until I changed to Frontier’s 2 Gig Service. Now the Eeros suck despite being hard wired. Can you please DM me how to do MoCA and the Adaptors you used? My Frontier guy gave me 4 MoCA adaptors to use for my CoAx Wiring. Thanks

MoCA isn’t faster than physical Ethernet, unless you have the newest Eero Pro units, you’re limited to 1 gbit. Other factors such as you switch as well as WiFi speed of your clients come into play.

Define “suck.” No mesh network is going to get you 2gig service over wifi. Is your house even wired for 2gig? That is, are you running Cat5e or Cat6?

Ubiquiti is supposed to give you 2Gbps over wifi6, but I think realistically you'll only get < 1Gbps for each client.

So, the consensus seems to be it’s just map updates? My map for California updated 13 Jan and it was 1.3 GB. I do not have the ability to track router data. I am using the car’s offline map setting to verify.

Define “suck.” No mesh network is going to get you 2gig service over wifi. Is your house even wired for 2gig? That is, are you running Cat5e or Cat6?

It is all CAT6 and I get maybe 20mbps using Eero and 700-900 using the Frontier Router but the Frontier does not cover the whole house very well.

Which gen of eero’s? It should not be dropping off that much at all.

Could it be that your Eeros are configured for wireless backhaul rather than Ethernet (maybe the ethernet backhaul cable isn't working)?

Naturally the Owners Manual on my app isn’t in the least bit helpful. Or I just didn’t know where to look.

I believe when you select Offline Maps, the car will download maps for your surrounding area and store them for you. That way, if you lose internet connection, it can continue to show you where you are. You won't get updated traffic, etc., but at least it can give you proper turn-by-turn directions.

Not sure what the radius is for how much it downloads. Or if it just downloads the entire US, or whatever. My guess is it would be at least a couple hundred or thousand miles in all directions.

It is organized by state. Presumably, you can select as many as you would like for use when the car doesn’t have connectivity.

You find it in the navigation app, settings, offline maps.

Unlike Google Maps, for HERE maps:
1) You download offline maps by state
2) You must manually put HERE in Offline mode for the offline maps to be used. HERE does not automatically use its stored maps when the car loses connecivity.

On the upside, I’ve downloaded the entire western half of the US and had no issues. But yeah, you do need to manually put it in Offline mode; luckily that’s just a quick toggle in the nav settings.
