Android Auto Thursday

Interestingly, Tesla is using MapBox also.

Tesla may actually be using Google Maps, at least for the overall UI, though nav is most likely modified given supercharging stops. I was using a Tesla until recently, and recall the Google logo on the lower right part of the map UI (see this picture here from Tesla's website as an example). It's pretty faint but it's there I think.

I'm in the "I wish Lucid used Google Maps as the native mapping app" camp. Not that any nav logic is anywhere close to perfect, but I've only had my AT for a couple of weeks and I've already seen a few routing errors with the native app where I live. The native app is good enough I suppose. I guess it's a cost saving measure on Lucid's part.

...All it takes is for Google to up its licensing fees and Lucid has no choice but to pay once they're all in....
Is this different from licensing from HERE? Or Mapbox? Any vendor could raise their fees.

HERE generally works OK for me when I am navigating to a place that has an address, though all it can do it bring you to the parking lot entrance, not the building entrance, as it doesn't have that data.
We do a lot of driving to places that have names but not addresses (trailheads, etc), and HERE falls down miserably for this. It has maybe 10% of the POIs that Google Maps does, and the place names are not the same, so it's easy to make a translation error when entering a destination in to the car - if you can.

Hi all. I got AA working using the dongle below that I ordered from Amazon.

I did not like the fact that it was not scaling on cockpit LCD, so I let it go. Tried Car Play and saw that was cutting the side of the LCD screen to create a rectangular area, no good either.
Is it possible to show where you connected your dongle and also where you keep it. Sorry...I like to be spoon fed. :)

You can update this data. I’ve done it for a a number of locations and they work great now. You can also add side streets, easements, etc.

It's a lot easier to replace one portion of your system if someone decides to screw you over vs having to replace multiple elements of it. Cost probably plays a big role in it also, At a high level, these companies charge every time you make an API call, Google has increased its costs by 1400% over time where HERE has made costs more attractive allowing more API calls for cheaper but there are other reasons why HERE is chosen over Google when it comes to assisted driving systems also.

There's only one USB port in the car, at the far end center of center console closer to the center glove box. The dongle has a short USB cable and thus will have to sit inside the center console close to the USB port. Once plugged, follow the Bluetooth connectivity instructions that come with the dongle. You'll have to connect your phone to the Lucid_id device that is advertised by the dongle. Good luck.

(There are two ports there; one USB-A and one USB-C)

I have it hooked into the USB-C port.

It befuddles me more than anything that the underlying OS for the Air is Android. Go figure... They were never able to add an adjustment for SiriusXM to change the "quality" of the stream in the native app... so adding Waze or Google Maps would be way too much of a stretch. All that being said - my need for Waze will be diminished severely in September as all Clean Air decals in California will become null and void and I will no longer have use of the vaunted HOV lanes :(

You are using a different model than what I was using. How does yours scale the LCD cockpit? The same problem I had or it scales full screen with no problems. If so, do you mind dropping in a pointer to the device or its manufacturer and model number? THanks.

I can guarantee you that Lucid did not wait 2-1/2 years to submit to Google. I understand the frustration and wish it would be released but it is not that Lucid has been waiting to submit.
What's your source on that guarantee?
