Android Auto Thursday

Based on that article, the message seems that it is both Google and lucid not being able to agree to terms. At this rate lucid should stop promising that Android auto is coming. Spend the time effort and money on just further air improvements so that we don't care to rely on AA.
If we take the part about it normally taking six months but could take longer, with the part about Google and Lucid needing to agree to terms, with the part about Lucid expecting it in September, with the part about them expecting it before September, the implication is that things were submitted more than a month ago with both companies in agreement to the terms. If there's no agreement to the terms, even if they think they could reach one, then stating that they expect things in September is an unwarranted statement. There's a difference between a hope and an expectation. I expected Lucid to know this. I hope I was right.

With 88% of teenagers using an iPhone in 2024, by the time Android Auto comes out on the Air (say 30 more years), there will be little market for it in a vehicle. If those grown-up teenagers even drive.
I suspect that eventually the dominant automotive solution will be AAOS+GAS with user-selected native apps (Google nav, Waze, Youtube music, etc) a la Volvo, Honda, GM, etc, with Carplay available for iOS users.

Or Lucid could just adopt Google maps under the hood, like Rivian, Tesla, BMW, etc.

I don't want to start the communicate/ over communicate discussion but giving a specific timeline for a car that we aren't really even sure will be delivered (I know they said April but that could be like another 9 gravity) for a feature that still hasn't made it to the flagship vehicle sounds awfully suspect. Is the source and author credible?
JP is, indeed, the interim VP of Digital after Mike Bell left.

Hi all. I got AA working using the dongle below that I ordered from Amazon.

I did not like the fact that it was not scaling on cockpit LCD, so I let it go. Tried Car Play and saw that was cutting the side of the LCD screen to create a rectangular area, no good either.
This could be supper, but sorry to appear dumb: Is this showing AA on your phone, including Waze, connnecting wirelessly to Apple Carplay in Lucid Air? .. or is it wired? Thanks much!

Looks like twork corroborated the article additionally indicating that air is scheduled to come earlier than September (2025 I assume), but later than fall 2024 ;-)

It is AA on my Android phone connecting wirelessly to the Car Play dongle, but the dongle itself is connected to the car thru the USB port. The map screenshot is showing google maps.

More than 88% of today's teenagers won't be teenagers in 30 years. 30 years ago, 0% of teenagers used smartphones. I don't think any of that is predictive. I will, however, predict that AA in the Lucid will take less than 30 years.

I need better facts. OK, Hyundai then - Hyundai is moving to AAOS/GAS.
Interestingly, Tesla is using MapBox also. I think the delay in AA is a prime example of why automakers should be wary of jumping fully into bed with Google (or Apple for that matter). They call the shots and once you're all in, you're beholden to them. All it takes is for Google to up its licensing fees and Lucid has no choice but to pay once they're all in.

Personally, any automaker who has signed onto GAS has basically given up on software development in my opinion. It's the easy way out but can have serious consequences in the long run.

Here maps is *fine* for me on the surface, yes sometimes it navigates to a plaza entrance instead of the address itself but I can get past that. The thing that sucks is living in an area with a lot of toll roads and not having the option to toggle tolls on and off. Makes it unusable in certain situations.
Changing the native map from Here to Google Maps would be a big way to stop a lot complaints about not having AA.
Doubtful that changing the mapping engine for the native app would significantly assuage the demand for AA.

I have the same setup, although I'm not sure it's the same dongle. The Lucid treats it like it is Apple CarPlay. I set it up a year ago, and I'm really happy that I did.

Access to Google Maps is the only reason I would ever use AA. HERE has some significant shortcomings for my specific needs.

For me, the biggest things would be streaming music from ytm over WiFi (better quality) and seeing if there's a way to display map and music at the same time .. Maybe lucid map on lower screen and AA music on upper. Third need would be using maps to validate route selection before trip / drive .. just easier on screen than phone but only by a little. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with what I have now (new to lucid since Dec 24).
