Android Auto Thursday

Hi all. I got AA working using the dongle below that I ordered from Amazon.

I did not like the fact that it was not scaling on cockpit LCD, so I let it go. Tried Car Play and saw that was cutting the side of the LCD screen to create a rectangular area, no good either.
There’s one problem with the 4.0 version that makes it almost impossible to use. I described it many Thursdays ago in a galaxy far, far away. What you want is the more expensive AI box that allows you to scale the fit window so you can use the entire screen and access menus.

So google has been sitting on its hands to certify AA in the Air for......longer than 2 years?
More like it’s probably failed certification and Google kicked it back to Lucid to fix. It’s all speculation at this point.

I hate to ask, but I just got carlink 5.0 and I can’t get it to install. It pairs with my S24 fine but then I cannot find the android auto icon anywhere on the Lucid. The installation instructions are a joke. What am I doing wrong? The carlink is plugged into the USB A port.

There is no Android Auto icon in the Lucid. The car sees the Carlinkit signal as Apple CarPlay. Mine comes up automatically, but if it doesn't hit the Apple CarPlay icon at the right edge of the cockpit panel

Ok, I’ll do that. I should have the Carlinkit connected to my phone via wireless and my phone to the car via bluetooth, correct?

Here's a few pictures of the AA screens.
Thank you for posting, I appreciate it. I see the same issue as what I observed with native Car Play, i.e., the used area is limited to a rectangle within the cockpit LCD leaving the precious right area and the top area (not as much) unused. This is in contrast with the built-in map app. I read that folks have requested the ability to project individual apps including CP and AA on Pilot screen, but until then the problem remains. I think the native media player is very rudimentary though and it is certainly worth using AA media players such as Musicolet. Oh well...

Not quite. First connect Carlinkit dongle thru USB-A or USB-C and let it start operating. Then, pair your phone with the Bluetooth device advertised by the Carlinkit dongle. In my case, the device name started with Lucid_ and eneded with xyz where xyz was not matching the native device name advertised by the car. Once you pair, Car Play should automatically come on and project AA on cockpit LCD but if not you can start it manually.

The carlinkit isn't wireless. It has to be plugged in via USB.

I tried everything tonight to get the 5.0 to work. Launching Carplay did nothing, just brought up a screen asking if I wanted to set up wirelessly or ignore. Neither option got me anywhere….frustrating.

I could be wrong (usually am) but I thought the Carlinkit 5 didn't translate CP->AA. That it only made whichever you have into wireless, and that the Carlinkit 4 did the translation from wired Carplay to AA. It's one of the reasons I tried the 4. Unfortunately, the top edge was hidden behind the top bar of the Lucid interface, rendering it unusable as far as I'm concerned.

I'm told the Carlinkit AI works and is adjustable enough to deal with the Lucid interface, but I wasn't willing to spend that much just yet.

Cute cat picture, nice to see AA working! (I’ve heard from people that it’ll come soon too)

next Thursday? Lols.

(Jk haven’t heard anything, I have Apple… get with the program people)

what happens on the lower screen and if lucid apps are running? Can you run AA with music on the top screen and lucid nav on the lower? can you run google maps on the upper and lucid audio on the lower?

Just saw this. It says "around September" for the release.
In general, the website in that Facebook post isn't a credible source. It's been banned from the forum for that reason.

It's referencing the top speed article which I guess is credible enough that twork commented on it

All it does is just show the regular car related menu on the lower screen. I think the only way you can see the other type of screens is if you exit the carplay (projecting the Android auto device) from the upper screen. It's kind of sub-optimal in that respect. In other words, I could never find a way to show the Car Play / Android Auto Device on the upper screen while showing a different type of app on the lower screen, because what's on the lower screen is dictated by what car specific sub app (nav, media) is on the upper screen. The Car Play / Android auto screen is never reflected on the lower screen.
