Android Auto Thursday

The irony didn't escape me (do I need to take the Macan EV off my shopping list?), but I am actually seriously asking! [EDIT: turns out the EV version of the Macan does have Android Auto]
Wait, so the EV Macan has AA but the ICE version doesn't?

Yes, the Macan EV uses a new AAOS-based infotainment system. The ICE Macan still uses the legacy system.

Volvo did this same thing for s year or two. Start with AAOS/GAS on the EV, get it stable, then migrate it to the rest of the lineup.

That's a lot cheaper than the one I have, which is actually the second one I bought. Hopefully it works well. In the Lucid at least, some of the units do not adjust size to the screen correctly. The first one I got displayed too big. You couldn't see all the "buttons" and I had to return it.

Good to know, thanks. I've warned my BIL that he might need to return it.

I use the Kybriq and love it.
I added Netflix, YouTube, YouTube TV, Hulu, Spotify, Google and more! I’m loving this!!!!
If you are interested in purchasing, this is the link. Took about two weeks to arrive.
All new KYEBRIQ BRIQ4-AGERA is now upgraded to a better processor !! KyeBriq Android Box is the strongest and slimmest Android Box you ever need for your car. Not only it is small and slim, but its performance and features are also at a whole new level. We are more than just a wireless adapter...
I got 40% off with this code: SHAZ40
Enjoy! 😊
I did a rough review of the Kybriq.

My BIL has a new Porsche Macan, and it doesn't have Android Auto either!
Which is hilarious because the Macan runs on Android Automotive also just like the Lucid. How f’d up must Google be that automakers running Android Automotive can’t get Android Auto running out the gate.

Depending how deep VW Group gets into bed with Rivian on its software the days of CarPlay and Android Auto could be numbered in those brands they own. Rivian has been pretty adamant about not allowing them just like Tesla.

Whuch sucks, because there's nothing that really replaces Carplay/AA. I don't know what Porsche has, but HeyLucid and Here maps do not.

VW Group uses Here Maps, they part own it

Also, given so many use Here and given Lucid’s software woes, don’t assume it’s Here that’s the problem. You just need to look at recent additions to Navigation to know Lucid hasn’t been using everything available to them with Here.

Cars running Android Auto with Google's Automotive Suite (GAS) don't really need Android Auto, as common android apps run natively in the car via an app store, just like a phone. So it's not a high development priority. The problem is automakers who use AAOS but choose not to take advantage of GAS.

Porsche's new Macan EV ditched the legacy VW group software for AAOS, and now uses native Google Maps along with other apps.
