Android Auto Thursday

Wait until you're in an accident that's not your fault and the other person lies about what happened. Knowing someone who works in the insurance industry you'd be surprised how often dashcam footage is used to prove the other party is lying. The sad thing is that even when the person is proven to be lying they suffer no further consequences from it. They're just slapped with a 100% at fault and nothing more, even though they wasted everyones time spinning a story.
I had a cop tackleberry me about doing 90mph and driving reckless was his claim. I told him he is absolutely out of his mind. He continued with his claims. I said to him I'm not in the mood to argue today and pointed at the dashcam. He got ticked off returned to his vehicle and came back with a failure to use turn signal ticket. I still took it to court and he was a no show. Dashcams work.

I can't speak for all Teslas and I have no idea what they do for the navigation but it definitely says Google in the bottom right hand corner when you have the map up
Tesla's system is a hybrid. It uses Google maps for the on-screen display for the center screen, but not for the binnacle. The cars store a separate map database that's used for routing, which works even without cell service, but the center map won't display in that case. The route overlays the Google maps display on the center screen.

The two are generally but not always in sync, because the internal one might get updated once per year. So it's possible for a route to come up that makes no sense, given what the Google maps shows. For example, I once had the navigation system show me a C shaped route when I was better off going straight. It's because Google showed an upcoming overpass that the map data didn't know about until the next annual update.

Happy Android Auto Thursday!!!!!!

... and I had a sneaking suspicion that today was the day! ARRRGGGGHHH!!! (But a very patient ARRRGGGGHHH!!!)

Nine more Thursdays in Fall 2024. T-9 and counting. I'm betting on a Thanksgiving release.

Happy Android Auto Thursday!!!!!!

Late to the party but is there a place where I can get a good primer on what Android Auto can do for me? I use the Lucid's navigation system, and it seems to work well.

As far as Lucid Motors vehicles are concerned, the only thing Android Auto can do for you right now is teach you 'patience', as @ec256 can readily attest. Stay tuned, though. Android Auto for Lucid Airs is promised to arrive before the Winter Solstice. Oh, Happy Day!

We're looking forward to Android Auto because many of our destinations are not present in Lucid's built-in nav database. And sending destinations to the car from Google Maps frequently results in a drive to the wrong location, some miles from where we had intended to go. For us, Google Assistant voice input and spoken results are much more accurate than Lucid's assistant. For future car purchases, I'm going to give a much heavier preference to cars with built-in Google nav and assistant. The combination makes daily use much more pleasant, and road trips easier and less error/disappointment prone.

For me Android Auto is:
* Google Maps. Because they are the most up to date with all recent changes. And the most precise with estimating and navigating according to current condition. And because search works how it should work, and can find any points of interest, without the need to know the address. And because I can just share mu live location with my wife in two clicks when drive home.
* Still freedom to use any other navigation system I'd want: for example Waze or ABRP.
* Integration with calendar. My wife and I have a shared calendar, where we add all relevant events. So we can start navigation to the destination planed just by clicking on the event.
* Freedom to chose what to use for music. I usually use Youtube Music for example. Or MyTuner for radio.

In addition to the Navigation features that DeaneG mentioned, Google can often navigate to your contact's address which makes it a little easier than remembering an address. And besides navigation, AA can make or answer phone calls, or send texts from your voice, which I use it a lot.

The car can do this too; @LucidDropkick showed me this. If you pull up your contacts in the Lucid, you can tap the little nav icon on a contact's name and it will navigate to that contact's stored address.

You can do this already, though? By just using Bluetooth?

That does work, although it's a decent amount of menus to get there. But I realized that even though Google Maps on the phone does that easily, AA in the car doesn't. Since I'm using the Carlinkit workaround, I don't know if that is the issue or AA itself. I guess I'll have to wait for the end of fall to find out. :)
