Android Auto Thursday

You can do this already, though? By just using Bluetooth?
I'd have to chose the app and then playlist or the station in it trough the phone screen - dangerous and forbidden by law. And won't be able to just say "play <song name>". And have music and navigation directions properly mixed.

Huh? If you have nav up, it will appropriately play any directions over whatever media is otherwise playing.

Also, you can absolutely say “OK Google” or whatever you Android kids use and have it play a song or playlist. I do this all the time with Siri, and I did it well before CarPlay. Just because you’re not talking to the car, but your phone instead, doesn’t mean your phone doesn’t work; it’s in the center console, you don’t exactly have to scream for it to hear you.

It works not as smooth as when all sounds go from the same device as the multimedia system needs to switch sources, then switch them back.

I don't have "OK Google" enabled as I usually don't talk to the phone: saying `play <song name>" is the car is the only usage case of voice assistant for me. I don't use it to choose a radio station in MyTuner. I don't use it to chose a playlist in Youtube Music. I barely use it to start navigation.

At the end I can also just run any navigation system on the phone, just having it in the phone holder. Sure it will work. But this can't be used as an argument to justify resistance of the car manufacturer from giving its customers a freedom of using what they want.

Okay, but you… could enable it. I’m just saying, it solves your problem today, and you don’t have to wait for Android Auto. This worked fine before I had CarPlay; is it ideal? No. But it works.

I never said it should. They’ve already said Android Auto is coming this year.

You said a set of things are presently impossible. I pointed out that that isn’t true, and they are simply inconvenient, not impossible.

That’s all.

I can't enable it for in-car interactions only, and I don't want to have it generally enabled for various reasons.

Oh I didn't say I need any solution for today. My current car has Android Auto (it is just slightly annoying it's over cable only, but not a big issue).
I was answering on the question "what Android Auto can do for me?". And because I own a car with it, and used various other cars with and without it, I can compare.

Thanks to this forum I've already decided to not rely on any promises, only rely on what is delivered. So if Gravity will come without Android Auto that will be huge argument against for me.

I didn't say that.

That does work, although it's a decent amount of menus to get there. But I realized that even though Google Maps on the phone does that easily, AA in the car doesn't. Since I'm using the Carlinkit workaround, I don't know if that is the issue or AA itself. I guess I'll have to wait for the end of fall to find out. :)
I can start navigation to someone's address by starting typing their name in Google Maps search in AA.
I've also tried "Navigate me to <Person's name>" and that didn't work. But it's not a problem for me as no systems process my "Navigate me to ..." properly: I'm not native English speaker living in a German speaking country (that I'm not native speaker either).

Fair point. I agree that’s annoying.

Great - I misunderstood what you were trying to say then! My bad. Given that context, your post makes a lot more sense.

I think that is likely true for you and a lot of people. It either has to launch with it or come VERY VERY quickly after (meaning weeks, not months) or I think a lot of people are going to be concerned.

But I do believe it’ll get there; afaik it isn’t up to Lucid at this point.

I didn't say that.
You’re right, you didn’t technically say impossible. You said:

I took “wont be able to just say play <song name>”, and your only option being to choose the app and playlist, etc., to imply that you had no other options for doing those things, and thus I inferred you thought it was impossible at present.

Either way, it doesn’t sound like we actually disagree at all - you can do it today, but it’s inconvenient for a bunch of reasons one may or may not care about (as you’ve outlined), and thus we all eagerly await Android Auto. :)

I haven't followed this thread very closely, apologies if this isn't anything new.

So November 7th is opening date for Gravity orders, which will have Android Auto. And it's a Thursday. It would be cool if we get an AA date on the same day. Or an update including AA,

Usually companies try to avoid any major deployments around earnings day to avoid noise if something goes bad. I am guessing another 2-3 weeks after that, so let's hope week before Thanksgiving Thursday 11/21.

Happy Android Auto Thursday!!!!!!!

So i saw a video that said AA is confirmed on gravity and will be shortly out on AIR they are just waiting for Google Store Certification.

My only issue with carlinkit is that for some reason it won't connect many times, and I have to force exit android auto, clear cash, and turn off and on Bluetooth after 30 seconds.
I found the issue to this problem, so if anyone else ever has issue, they can reference this.

If Bluetooth is toggled on and off top much, the android auto module doesn't have enough time to properly boot up before actually connecting to Android auto in the car. So basically if I turn on Bluetooth a 5-10 mins before I get in the car or before I use android auto, it's all good.

Everyone probably keeps their Bluetooth on all the time.

No love for android auto with the latest 2.5 update. Not many Thursdays left in 2024. Hopefully we will get it by Xmas. 🤞

Prediction for AA

Thanksgiving day is an ideal date for a good thanking time for loyal customers 😉
It's a Thursday - respecting this thread 😁
It's still Fall 🍁
It coincides with Gravity delivery (Newton will be happy) 😄
It can make Tesla (AC) 😜 and Edison (DC) both happy too ☺️

Except everyone tries to avoid holidays and weekends for major code deployments. If something goes not as planned, developers won't need to spend time troubleshooting the issue during holidays. I am guessing sometime between Thanksgiving and Xmas (second week of December).
