I think this is controlled by your phone. Did you take a look at Settings>General>AirPlay & Continuity? That seems to be where some control happens...just a suggestion.

The settings there seem okay. I have never changed them from the default settings. Not sure what I should change?

I think we are the lucky stepchildren. It does look like it’s a pause and I think that’s a wise decision.

I've tried everything suggested but still can't get the calls to go through the car's speaker system. I can ask Siri to place the call and it does respond through the car's speakers that it is placing it but then the ring and the conversation only go through the iphone's speaker. Everything else does work okay. Guess I'll just have to live with it.

Have you tired a hard reboot of the phone?
For most iPhones do the following:

1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
3. Press and hold the side button.
4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

I’m sure you tried this but wanted to throw it out there.

Nor is it hard for many(most)... our phones have been doing this (reliably, OTA) for 20 some years, computer systems have been doing this for (much) longer (the update gets delivered either OTA/over a network, or via some other process, then you press a button (run a job, etc) to apply the update... no significant difference)... all without anywhere near the rate of failures we see today with cars... the technology is well understood by some industries, and poorly by others. The technology fields in question (cars, phones, computers) just aren't that different, they are all programmable hardware systems (computers).

Your phone is not a distributed computing platform with 70 or so ECUs. OTAs may, in general, be a “solved” problem, but that doesn’t make it an easy one.

No, it was not an oversimplification... automated update application is not new, we did it in the 70s (and earlier).

I have a new issue with 2.9.0 where the nav screen just dims the lower pilot screen instead of showing the map/search window.

The music and phone screens show on the lower screen just fine. It's only the Nav.

An Air reboot seems to fix it until it happens again after a few drives.

For example, the first ISPs didn't exist until the late 1980s, so OTA updates must have been really interesting in the 70s.

In any case, I'm glad y'all figured it out. Someone should publish a paper or something.

As I pointed out, OTA is just how the update package is delivered... no conceptual difference from other methods of delivery (such as a wired network or magnetic tape or a deck of cards)... the problems (and solutions) are not new, but do need consideration and effort during the design phase (creating pieces that are able to be reliably updated, e.g. reboots all the pieces after update, etc). The pieces are different, but the conceptual problem (and solutions) are unchanged (e.g. heterogenous updatable units that must be coordinated in a reliable fashion, etc).

The power source for the vehicle has nothing to do with the topic any more than how the update package is delivered has to do with the update process or contents. I made a simple observation about that process...

No. The big glitch was 2.9.2 which was only sent to the Pure RWDs, and that is now resolved. You got 2.9.0.
