Actual Key Fob Data

I honestly haven't had any problems with the fob. It's fine. I like it better than our Volvo fob, as Lucid's is much slimmer.
I had problems understanding how the fob works during the first weeks of ownership because:
1. I did not read the manual
2. The buttons are invisible and require memory that I no longer have
3. It's a departure from the key fobs I have had before
4. I did not move it far enough away from where the car is in the garage / put it in a Faraday cage/pouch when not in use.

Now that I have learned how it works it is my go-to tool. I've been replacing my fob battery yearly, even though it's still working. Yes it is slow unlocking the car when approaching from the rear. I know this and it's no big deal.

I love my Lucid.

Oh from what I read here, I thought the mobile key on pixel 9 was pretty good, no?

I should try it again with my S23 to see if it's any better after recent updates.
My S23 mobile key has been pretty good so far. It has been flaky only a few times in the past month.

I'd say, fob design is one of the weakest and most annoying adpects of owning Lucid. Hopefully, the Gravity will change that.
Have to disagree with RM-S8. Not being able to promptly open the doors is the most annoying aspect of our Lucid.

I put a recurring reminder on my calendar and replace the battery every two weeks.
If you're not joking, I think Lucid should replace your fob with another.

DeaneG: How long does your key battery last? What year is your car? Thanks!
My fob battery was last replaced by Costa Mesa Service center on July 17th. It is still working as of today. I carry it in my bag I take to work with me. I don’t actually push any buttons on it though.

My car was manufactured March 2022. Unsure of when the actual fob was manufactured.

the key fob short life mystery,
My fob bit the dust less than 36 hours after taking delivery of my '24 Pure in May 2024. Had to use the card (thankfully, I had it my wallet) to drive after pulling over while familiarizing myself with the car on a backroad. I didn't leave the car, just pulled over with car in drive it would not move. Called customer service and they suggested changing the battery. I resisted since the car was only a day old and had a May 2024 build date ( a BRAND NEW car!) Set up the key access by iPhone and gave up quickly on that as I hate looking like a dork waiting for my car to open in a parking lot. The app is so slow to open, even when left on all of the time. The touch feature on the door handle is also wonky and unreliable. Ultimately, I defeated approach sensing, kept departure sensing on and I have become adept at double clicking the remote without taking it out of my pocket, but it sucks when my hands are busy holding groceries, or the friggin' battery is dead.
I set a 1 month reminder in my phone calendar and bought a ton of 2032's on amazon. I keep two in the car, and for good reason. The fob may, or may not last a month. Of course, none of the other 12 new cars I have purchased in my long life have performed like this.
This is only one small sliver of the sorry experience I have had with this car. It has a mind of its own, for much of the month of August it turned the lane departure setting on and off at will. Don't even get me going about how meany more electrons the car inhales now that it is cold here in New England...

Seems we had some similar ideas

Works great!
The performance actually seems better as well, not just the lifetime, I assume due to voltage drop in all the mostly-dead CR2032s.
Haha I can’t imagine doing this level of urban engineering on a new $100k car, much less a 20 year old hooptie. That really can’t be excused at all - not sure why anyone would find it acceptable.

DeaneG: How long does your key battery last? What year is your car? Thanks!
My GT was built 09/22. I've had the fob battery replaced at each of two annual service visits. I vaguely recall changing the fob battery myself one time in those 2+ years, but I'm not sure if I did, or if I am confusing it with our other car's fob.

I keep the fob in a Faraday bag when not in use. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

With respect to the mobile key, it is irritating that the contact point is located in the pillar at the side of the car by the front door and not the trunk. Whenever I want to open the trunk I have to go to the side of the car to activate the doors before the trunk will open. Hopefully this will be rectified in the future.
I agree. I was referring to the fob, but otherwise I agree with you.

That makes yours 5 1/2 months old. Please have a fallback...
The fob can be used even with a dead battery, through its built-in NFC on the driver's B-pillar. Or the phone app could be used to unlock the car.
But I always carry the "valet" card just in case.

My fob bit the dust less than 36 hours after taking delivery of my '24 Pure in May 2024.
Me too. Delivered 9/22 and fob battery died in about a week. Probably trying to talk to the car, un-shielded, since the time it was programed for the car. Who knows how long the battery was frustrated and draining before I got it? I don't know if it's radio or Bluetooth or what, or if this makes a difference at all, but I folded a piece of aluminum foil over the fobs until I got the Faraday pouches. Haven't replaced fob batteries since. They do it with annual service anyway.
Had to use the card
No you don't have to. You can use a dead fob to get in the car. It's in the manual...or go to @Bobby's website.
thankfully, I had it my wallet) to drive after pulling over while familiarizing myself with the car on a backroad.
Yeah, I've done this. Now I keep the owner's manual near the crapper and read it when I'm not so stressed.
I didn't leave the car, just pulled over with car in drive it would not move.
Wait ... I don't understand this part. The car died because the fob battery died? The car works fine without the fob battery, or are you talking about one of the 12v batteries, or the main battery pack ? Resetting almost always fixes issues, or just letting the car "sleep" for a bit. Back in the day this site was all about resets, and the myriad ways it can be done. Now that the software is so ROBUST ... well I can't remember last time I needed a reset. I understand there is a whole nother way to do this...but I don't know it because my car is flawless. I go for drives for no reason,. I have a director's chair in the garage so I can just sit and stare at the car.

Called customer service and they suggested changing the battery. I resisted
You called Customer Service and then ignored their advice ? Did you have a bad experience with Tesla? Is that why you switched to Lucid ?
since the car was only a day old and had a May 2024 build date ( a BRAND NEW car!)
Yeah, I went there too. Complained about the fob endlessly, then read the manual. @Bobby talked me down more than once. So embarrassing to complain publicly then realize you are the dummy. Been there / done that. This "brand new car" argument : been there / done that too.
Set up the key access by iPhone and gave up quickly
Programing is hard. That's why programmers are god-like. It takes almost a minute to connect a smart phone to the car... much longer to read the Owner's Manual. I hate smart phones and fiddling with applications and settings, but have been able to connect devices to other devices when it's necessary (like paring headphones to my smart phone or TV).
I kept my owner's manual in the powder room for a few months and read it daily. I still haven't found the part where you turn on/off the proximity settings. You must be expert with the smart phones. Weird that you can't pair the phone with the car though. Have you tried turning it off then on again?
on that as I hate looking like a dork waiting for my car to open in a parking lot.
Wear a hat and own the look. Nobody is looking at you anyway = they are looking at your Lucid.
The app is so slow to open, even when left on all of the time.
The app is slow to open? I hate smart phones too. That's why I use the fob. I don't know about slow apps, but I believe you.
The touch feature on the door handle is also wonky and unreliable.
Yeah, I have had the driver's door handle refuse to open twice in over two years: not exactly unreliable but unexpected. ... went to other side and it opened normally, then didn't happen again. Sometimes the car needs a moment of peace...it's almost human that way.
Ultimately, I defeated approach sensing,
I didn't know you could do that, and yet you can't enable the Mobile Key feature on your phone? I'm confused. I don't think I understand what you are saying here. I thought you gave up on connecting the Mobile Key, or is this something you can do to the fob?
kept departure sensing on
What is departure sensing? Is this in the manual? You seem to know a lot about the software. Is this on the phone? the fob? the car? You seem to know a heck of a lot more about the car than I.
and I have become adept at double clicking the remote without taking it out of my pocket, but it sucks when my hands are busy holding groceries, or the friggin' battery is dead.
Try tuning on approach sensing.

Yes I wish it had the toe under rear bumper feature that opens the hatches when unlocked. First time I had a car that did this I went: "Wow! That is cool!" and dropped a bag of groceries on the pavement in my astonishment. I don't like fiddling in my pockets in public either.
I set a 1 month reminder in my phone calendar and bought a ton of 2032's on amazon.
I did too, but they sit in my glove box, still in the packaging, unused. I guess the aluminum foil is working for me. I since got a couple of key fob Faraday pouches. I'll let you know how long my fob battery lasts ...it's been over a year now I think. As I said, you may not need a Faraday cage if you just keep the fob far enough away. I've not tried this. Some folk put their fob in a metal can when they get home. That seems to work too.
I keep two in the car, and for good reason. The fob may, or may not last a month.
...again, Faraday ... or move the fob as far away from the car as you can...just being on the other side of a non-conducting wall is not enough. My money is on you, as you seem to ask for help then ignore the advice. I bet your battery dies in a week. Funny thing, my bedroom is over the garage, and the car and fob had been "talking" to each other through the floor. I guess I forgot that I can listen to the radio inside my house too.
Of course, none of the other 12 new cars I have purchased in my long life have performed like this.
It's not like your father's Oldsmobile. Are you amazed that the Model T's operated differently than a horse? It may look like all the cars you have ever had, but the Lucid is not a car = it's a time machine. Expect it to be "different".
This is only one small sliver of the sorry experience I have had with this car.
Tell us more. It's entertaining and this place is boring now that the software is ROBUST.
It has a mind of its own,
This is a feature, not a bug. As I said, sometimes the Lucid is almost human.
for much of the month of August it turned the lane departure setting on and off at will.
Don't use HA. It's a marketing gimmick. Also, as I said before, sometimes a simple reset fixes everything, or just letting the car sleep it off fixes issues and they will magically disappear overnight.
Don't even get me going about how meany more electrons the car inhales now that it is cold here in New England...
I understand Tesla batteries defy the laws of physics?

RE: Cold weather battery performance = over 80% of the new cars in Norway are EVs. I haven't read that the Vikings are stupid, but maybe all that snow and ice makes them a bit numb, or maybe they know more physics / chemistry than us and expect / plan for less range in cold weather?

Anyway, yeah, EVs don't perform like your father's Oldsmobile in cold weather. I thought everyone in New England switches to snowmobiles / x-country skis in winter? Just kidding. I have family in Nude Hampster and they are snowmobile nuts...I have a cousin who routinely uses his to ride around on the pond ... in summer. It's a sight to be seen...I would video it if I could take my eyes off the stunt. He's sunk his snow machine in the pond so many times that he's learned to recover it and get it restarted faster than you can say "Wholy hydrolocked, Batman!"
But I digress.

Hope you don't mind me having some fun with your post. You did not say how much you love driving the car so I feel I should tease you a bit.
I am teasing you because, I see myself. Don't look up my early posts about the car = very embarrassing.

When I first got my car I went insane over the key fob " issues ". It is not like any other fob I have had, and does not work like any other fob I've had. I read the manual and read about it on this website. @Bobby and others here were very patient with my posts. @Bobby has a very nice website that covers this stuff. I used the phone Mobile Key for about a year, then went back to the fob, which I prefer. My door handles present almost always before I can touch them UNLESS I am approaching from the rear... sometimes I have to wait a second or two for them to present. I can't remember if the phone is slower than the fob = maybe that's why I use the fob now? I do not like phones. The wife likes to know where I am and what I am doing so I must have it with me.

The Adaptive Cruse is awesome. I even use it on local roads.

But you love to drive the car, right? Everyone does, even Kyle.

A lot of us here are early-adopters of new tech and have a high tolerance for risk and disappointment. The posts (do a search on this site) of the Dream Edition early-adopters will curl your hair. And yet, the cars that were totaled were quickly replaced with another Lucid, in spite of all the problems they had. I think a couple of the early posters said they gave up and went back to ICE cars. I have to wonder if they are happy going backwards in time, or just being petulant. Anyway it's done wonders for those of us looking for Dream Editions at half-price.

Again I sincerely hope you take this post in the ironic and humorous way I intended. I sense you are very stressed now, as I was in the first few months; that's why I took the time for this romp = because I care.

Feel better and welcome to the asylum.

I'm OK with the key Fob (could be better), battery lasts at least a few months. I carry Fob, card, and my phone which is NOT set up as Mobile Key. I have Passive Unlock turned OFF and Passive Lock ON. When I approach the car I simply depress the handle and I'm done (or go to the rear of the car and access the trunk). This eliminates the car Unlocking everytime I pass through the garage. It also eliminates the car constantly unlocking and locking if I am standing by/near the car having a conversation for 5 minutes. When I walk away from the car it always locks.

Last year when Lucid Service came out for the windshield wiper recall, I questioned the tech if when Passive Unlock turned OFF shoiuld I be able to depress ANY door handle OR just the handles on the drivers side. He said any door handle. He tried and only from driver side. He called superiors, they chatted and decided to run it further up the line, but would need to be taken to Tysons Corner Service for repair. This year for 2 year service I brought up again as the car needed to be in Tysons for sensors, camera, alignment etc. Brought the unlock issue up as another item on the list.
When I returned to pick the car up all issues were taken care of EXCEPT being able to unlock the car from either side by depressing the door handle. I was told it is operating as intended, only enter from driver side.
Is this true? Can anyone else unlock their car with Fob in pocket from the passenger side? A real inconvenience when escorting my wife to the front passenger seat.
It would also be really nice to be able to open the trunk with Fob in pocket.

No need to carry the card if you have the fob.

,. I have a director's chair in the garage so I can just sit and stare at the car. View attachment 25968

I love this directors chair thing. Yeah everybody has been having issues with the fob lately who doesn’t do the Faraday bag thing. I could do that, but it’s an extra step that I would get annoyed by, so instead when the batteries drain I get a little annoyed but then get in the car and drive and my irritation is immediately subdued. My car has been in service so many times, in fact it’s in service right now because the passenger door exterior handle quit opening. Am I mad? No. Things break, and when they did break, Lucid tech drove the loaner to my job and took my car and drove it back an hour to the service center, barely inconveniencing me, and they said they’re also gonna check ALL the door handles as well to make sure they won’t fail either. When was the last time you went to a service center and said “oh this thing on the right side of my car doesn’t work” and they said “we’re going to check all sides”. A case in point was the right rear passenger seat belt not fastening on my BRAND NEW Volvo V60 Polestar Plug In Hybrid. We reproduced the problem 3 times with 3 different people. We took it to the dealer, they did a software update (they have some only dealers can do in addition to the OTA owners can do), they said that seat belt was fine, and didn’t check the others. They said the software update must have fixed it. How in the hell software can control a mechanical latch for a seatbelt is beyond my comprehension, in fact I actually don’t believe their assessment even a tiny bit. And Volvo also could not figure out a way to bring us a loaner or return the car to us, even though their service agreement says they do this, and they said they’d come swap the loaner with our car but then never showed up and didn’t call. They seemed a little worried when I actually asked for it. So we needed our car so I just brought the loaner back on a Sunday when they were closed, handed the keys to a sales person who said they’d process the return Monday, and I wandered around the lot until I could find my car and just took it without permission as I had a second key fob. And I don’t think Volvo service is bad, I’m just giving a contrasting example of being smart responsive thorough and minimizing inconvenience (Lucid) and having what I thought was a serious problem (Volvo seatbelt not fastening, you know that thing that is the logo of their brand, the seatbelt) being met with a a shrug. I’m sure they did investigate thoroughly as they had the car for 7 days, but it made me realize I don’t have much to complain about with Lucid, and most things that are annoyances are due to being stuck with things from vendors that didn’t work out or a design that they’re already working on replacing (Gravity key is different than Air key but the Air system I don’t think can be modified). Ok that post was too long thanks for your time.
