Actual Key Fob Data

I hope you guys are kidding.
Nope, fob was in scrubs pocket in a locker, mobile app wouldn’t work, keycard in wallet to the rescue. The mobile app then started working once I got back in the car again it was just really slow, it happened to be when their app was having some network issue that got fixed so it was a situation unlikely to occur again.

I'm really sorry to read so many owners are having trouble with the fob. I think it's very cool. My fob batteries get replaced annually even though they still work. You folk should check the batteries in the visors ... they replace them at annual service too.

Using a dead fob to unlock the car is a bit different than using the Key Card. Read the owner's manual and practice the technique, or go visit Bobby's webpage.

I'm inclined to agree. My guess is that Lucid anticipated that the majority of owners would use the mobile key and not the fob. I'm not saying they cheaped out on the fob. But they may not have done as much as possible with the fob design because they didn't think it would get much use by a lot of owners.

Unfortunately, with the mobile key issues a lot of us have experienced, the fob is the go to for a lot of us.
I say call it as it is. It's the worst fob ever produced for a luxury car! Period. It feels cheap. It looks cheap. It is.....cheap.

People seem overly willing to make excuses for the car which has MANY aspects that aren't ready for prime time. If you don't speak up, they won't do anything about it.

Agreed that the FOB is NOT a best foot forward piece of gear (although mine works fine). That said, I’d rather be driving my Lucid Air GT than anything else on the road, so I guess I’ve just made peace with the fact that all human endeavor is flawed and the Lucid’s quirks (“flaws, if u prefer) just don’t bother me as much as the overall driving experience excites and enriches me.

I odered all the parts for my Rube Goldberg solution: CR2 battery and holder, leather key case. Total cost about $10 + $10 shipping. Will arrive in about a week. I'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, I know Lucid tech folks are litening to this board. They should have the specs on the chip and algorithim in the fob. Its probably custom, but uses a low power bluetooth component. Please provide info. Thanks

Man there are sooooooo many complainers in this forum. Is there things Lucid could have done better or differently with this first car of theirs? Yes. If you hate your 800HP amazing to drive beautiful comfortable spacious car because of a cheap annoying plastic device to enter it when you also have a phone that usually works and a key card and even the fob which will work with a dead battery if you hold it up to the B pillar, you should definitely get rid of the car but also maybe re-evaluate your coping mechanisms. If they could fix the fob in this version of the Air they would have done that already. That’s why the Gravity does it differently. It’s like nobody here knows what “benefit of the doubt” means.

While there may be some complaining on this forum (self included), I think it is actually very useful to Lucid to have these issues pointed out and discussed.

This forum may very well be Lucid's best gauge of customer input, with largely seasoned owners giving detailed and specific information on how things could be improved, not only on the current car, but in future models as well. This is basically free opinion polling/focus group for Lucid.

If you go to other car forums, there are a lot of people who actually hate their cars and complain nonstop.

Sometimes I feel bad for these posters, because:

I can not think of any car, at any price, that I'd rather have....

Actually, it’s kind of sad when folks get stuck in a glass half full paradigm. I mean, best driving sedan probably ever built, wicked acceleration, best range, far more luxurious than Brand T, far better engineering, gorgeous exterior, sumptuous interior….BUT it has a relatively shitty key FOB and a few rough edges on the software side of things (the latter can and will most likely be fixed).

Hmmm, I think I will wallow in the issues and let it suck the joy out of my life.

I'm not a fan of the fob. I use it out of necessity because mobile key has been even more inconsistent. Not making excuses. Just wondering out loud how it came to be in existence in it's current iteration. I find it hard to believe the people in charge of it didn't have good reasoning for releasing it as is. 🤷‍♂️

Welcome to the year 2022 haha. I love Lucid because they are a very self aware company and actually listen and work on solutions, it’s ok that some would like to inform Lucid of these concerns, they do listen, but they’ve been listening about some of these issues since 2022 which is why Gravity fob is a redesign. I’ve seen and held it, don’t worry. Progress happens in steps…..

I garre - it a great car, especially after I learn more about how to drive it.

The fob issue is like a stone in an expensive shoe that we love. I wish that Lucid would offer us or sell us an upgraded fob or tell us more about the technology so we can find somone else to fix it.

Progress Report: I emailed the fob manufacturer with questions, but no answer yet. Parts of my 'Rube Goldberg' solution (leather key case, larger CR2 battery and holder) are starting to arrive. I estimate about 1 week before I can build that.

Meanwhile I looked up the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy chips) they are likely to be using. Two revelations per the attachrd table, and some battery look-ups.

1 - The 2477 battery is smaller and has more power than the CR2 I had planned. Each is around $2.00. Note the expected life spans. The Lucid key currently has a 225mah coin battery. Building a new case for the slightly larger 1000 mah 2477 battery would solve the problem.

2 - Note the advertising interval. This is closely realted to the duty cycle I mentioned. I thinks this means: How often does the Fob try to contact the car? Increaing this with a sofware overwrite could solve the problem.

More to come.

I thought you were joking. The Air fob with a kludge? I'm enjoying this as comedy. Keep posting.

If my guess is correct, the Farady shield will have no impact. My guess is that the fob is advertising itself too often for the size of the battery. My hope is that the RG1 or RG2 will fix it. RG = Rube Goldberg. Stay tuned for next week's adventure.
