That’s interesting. They were definitely sequential for early Model Xs, say, under the first 5,000…VINs are not sequential; they are random (well, the last six unique digits, anyway), on purpose.
Thanks as always for the nuanced perspective. I do not think this thread is going to age well. There will be test drive Gravitys, there will be Gravitys GTs with HUDs, and all these pre-emptive complainers are going to have to move on to the next thing to drag the discourse down over.No. And if they didn’t serve you food, or got you sick, complain away.
But if they ran out of carrots and served you something else instead and you got incensed? That would very much be a review I ignored, *especially* if they stated it before you ordered.
If you decided the food was delicious but the chef was incompetent because he used an immersion blender instead of a Vitamix because Vitamix had supply issues? Another review I’d ignore.
Not all “reviews” or opinions are made equal. I guarantee you the chef cares more about the review from someone who ate his or her food than someone who looked at him serve it from outside the restaurant and formed an opinion based on that.
It is absolute absurdity at this point to claim Lucid is ignorant or incompetent. Not that awards mean everything, but if it isn’t patently obvious (no pun intended) that Lucid isn’t incompetent, we don’t have common ground there.
You could maybe make that argument about software, if you were speaking solely about their infotainment software, and then I might disagree, but at least you could form a valid argument.
Look - it is not hard to figure out what happened with the HUD. It is one of two things:
You know what it definitely isn’t though? That Lucid didn’t think about this until last month.
- There were not enough parts available, whether suddenly or not, for some reason that hasn’t been disclosed yet. Maybe tariffs, maybe something else.
- The parts that were received were not of consistent enough quality, and Lucid cares too much about quality to release a bad HUD. This is the challenge of building something new, and relying on external suppliers.
It is absolutely legit to complain about the lack of communication, the delays in deliveries, etc.
I don’t think anyone is saying the cars will never be produced. So, yeah, if we look back 6-12 months from now, the thread will age “well”.Thanks as always for the nuanced perspective. I do not think this thread is going to age well. Lucid's VINs are not sequential. Some other automakers' are. That’s interesting. They were definitely sequential for early Model Xs, say, under the first 5,000…
This is not a difference, as the HUD is available in both markets.
Generally, though, they’re not all over the place right? Like 10025, 12432, 8045, etc? They may not be sequential by production, but it seems like there could be some correlation to the general number produced…Lucid's VINs are not sequential. Some other automakers' are.
There are numerous past threads regarding this, from when the Air first came out.Generally, though, they’re not all over the place right? Like 10025, 12432, 8045, etc? They may not be sequential by production, but it seems like there could be some correlation to the general number produced…
Got it. Thanks. I will take a look. Air was never on my radar as I am not a sedan driver. SUV and pick-ups fit family needs most. There are numerous past threads regarding this, from when the Air first came out.
In my opinion, whataver the reason is, the Dec deliveries were a slap on the face....and the fact that Lucid got themselves in this position is not acceptable. Not when they messed up Air release/software and lost a lot of customers. I understand a 2-3 month delay- but this is too long! Yeah, they make the best product, the current environment does not allow for mistakes like these.I know that there is only a very small number of people yelling incompetence or negligence at every issue Lucid encounters. I must say that I do find it annoying and I hope that you let us know the number of EVs that you have had a major role in designing, producing or handling the supply chain for. I suspect that there are some very well experienced forum members but I also doubt that they are the ones yelling negligence or incompetence.
With respect to the HUD, how do you know the HUD is the constraint rather than some related component? The HUD shows normal availability on the KSA site but shows fall availability on the US site. Is that a mistake in the sites or is that an indication that the HUD hardware itself may not be the problem. @nicktwork told us that the wiring harness was different with HUD and that is the reason dynamic ambient lighting is not available without the HUD. I don't know if the wiring harnesses are different between US and KSA but it would not surprise me given the slightly different regulations.
I do wish that Lucid could ramp Gravity faster and I agree the slow ramp is a poor look. Seriously, there is no negligence or incompetence going on here.
FWIW Tesla release four cars and messed up every release. In my opinion, whataver the reason is, the Dec deliveries were a slap on the face....and the fact that Lucid got themselves in this position is not acceptable. Not when they messed up Air release/software and lost a lot of customers. I understand a 2-3 month delay- but this is too long! They have one more chance....with the midsize- at least get one product release without major issues.....
Lucid doesn’t have that luxury….unfortunately they had to go through COVID, supply chain, inflation, high interest rates, Biden taking away EV credits high MSRP vehicles, Republicans attacking EVs due to politics and Trump tariffs and now all credits going away….they deserve massive commendation for what they achieved.FWIW Tesla release four cars and messed up every release.
Lucid has the biggest luxury/safety net by being backed by KSA. They have as much time as they want and will act accordingly to put the best product out there - eventually. Patience is needed and all will be forgotten once deliveries start. Is it super annoying? Yes. But it’s reality.Lucid doesn’t have that luxury….unfortunately they had to go through COVID, supply chain, inflation, high interest rates, Biden taking away EV credits high MSRP vehicles, Republicans attacking EVs due to politics and Trump tariffs and now all credits going away….they deserve massive commendation for what they achieved.
Not to mention hate spread by Tesla fanboys, one who I personally know!
They can’t be making any mistakes….that’s why stock is in the dumps. Makes uninformed people wonder if they will continue to exist worsening sales. For the record , I don’t have that concern at all. Product is too good and they have financial backing.
They should be selling these in droves by now.
I completely agree! Playing the guessing game - 99% of the time, you are wrong. Car making business is complex and few do it well. You have to generate a repeatable process and managing lots of converging resources to make a product of near perfection. Not for the faint of heart for sure. Thanks as always for the nuanced perspective. I do not think this thread is going to age well. There will be test drive Gravitys, there will be Gravitys GTs with HUDs, and all these pre-emptive complainers are going to have to move on to the next thing to drag the discourse down over.
The product is far from deficient. Is it perfect? No, but tell me a product that is. Harassed? Tad dramatic but the glitches for me are very few and far between now and the most recent update improved DreamDrive Pro dramatically. In fact, I find the software quite stable now and the only real thing I long for is hands free and ability to run multiple apps on the screens. You can make all the excuses you want, there is no excuse for producing such a deficient product. We have owned a 2023 Pure & have been through several OTA updates & still we are constantly harassed by software glitches multiple times a day. Yes the car handles great but that is all it has to recommend it. Where is the Gravity that was supposed to be delivered in December 2024, not 2025? Where are the Tesla charger adapters due in April 2024 no longer talked about? How about Android access put off until when? What happened to HUD that other car manufacturers already have except Gravity? I have lost interest in Lucid & the Gravity we longed after. Enough is enough!
This thread aging well? HA!Thanks as always for the nuanced perspective. I do not think this thread is going to age well. There will be test drive Gravitys, there will be Gravitys GTs with HUDs, and all these pre-emptive complainers are going to have to move on to the next thing to drag the discourse down over.
