So, I had the glare issue for the first time today. I didn't notice exactly what angle the sun was at. It's not *that* bad but you can definitely see the physical screen reflecting off of the windshield and it was kind of a "white-ish" large square.

I figure I can also comment some more about the HUD overall...It's definitely a work in progress as we've already established here. More concerning for me though is not the lack of content but moreso the actual optics of the system. When I took delivery of the vehicle it was off by default and I turned it on to see it for the first time with the rep next to me. I think he could immediately read my reaction to it wasn't great. He then asked if I thought it looked "wavy or wobbly" to which I replied "yes" as that very much describes the image you see if you move your head from side to side while looking at it. Having had a HUD in my previous 2 cars (Audi and BMW), I could tell something was off. It seems to have a VERY narrow lateral field of view that seems to distort the image unless you are looking at it from a very small sweet spot. It also did appear a bit "wavy" (and NO, it's not the windshield glass--that was my first thought). Also, as Borski pointed out in prior post, the focal length is definitely different than what I'm used to from my previous cars.

This brings me to my overall understanding of why the Gravity GT is being made without it currently. My experience with it makes me question how much a software update can actually improve the HUD display visual experience (I'm not referring to the content displayed but rather the actual rendering of that content). I'm concerned that, to at least some degree, the true underlying issues may actually be physically within the optics of system. I have to wonder if the "delay/shortage" we are being told about is really actually some sort of quick redesign. I will be the first to say I would not be surprised if all the Dream Edition owners end up with a mobile service appointment down the road for a HUD unit swap.

Just my 2 cents. Again, this is all my opinion from my limited interaction with it thus far.
So this is two out of now ~10 known owners bringing up the reflection issue. This doesn't bode well for HUD experience especially with it lacking any of the VR features they promised.

I just wanted to share that this discussion has been very helpful to me. I have had cars with HUDs, and I had selected the tech package in my initial order (opening day). With the parts issue, I then went to a Dream Edition order. It was radio silence from Lucid on the DE, I had anticipated paying a premium to get a bit further advanced in the build order.

With this thread on the quality of the initial HUD experience as well as the delay on updates on the DE, I called my advisor earlier this week and asked to move to a non-tech package GT.

They connected me with a car with VIN during that call that was very close to my initial order (I had wanted the smallest tire package, this one has the Michelin all seasons). He indicated I should have the car in about two weeks. Millbrae is the studio closest to me and is where I'll be picking up.

Thought I would share in case others might benefit.

For those with the DEs, I am betting there are a few more iterations on the experience coming your way. I am optimistic they'll get it much better over the next year, less optimistic in the next 6 months. That's pure speculation on my side, but as a pretty seasoned software guy, once GTs get in customer hands I believe they will work on higher priority bugs that affect all Gravity SKUs. There just won't be enough DEs out there (low dozens is the trendline) to put priority on improvements for DEs only--again my guess based on nothing more than my experience in shipping software.

Do you mind sharing whether it was optioned with the power package (outlets), and stealth vs platinum? Just curious how similar to my built the available ones are.

Thank you for posting - interesting. Were you wearing polarized sunglasses at the time?

I was wearing polarized sunglasses at the time...which does notably cut down the overall display brightness (as on all HUDs) but they did not get rid of the reflection.

With your limited interaction and without understanding the hardware and what can be done with software these days I wouldn’t be spreading that this is an optics or hardware issue so early in the game. Yes, the HUD is a work in progress but if I took your post as gospel I’d think the sky is falling and that’s a problem.

I don’t think it’s that bad. Is it perfect? Not yet, but 2 other people drove the car today and didn’t make one negative comment on the HUD at all. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion as I am mine but keep in mind many people are VERY interested in this car and sometimes simple opinions can make mountains out of mole hills when that’s not necessarily the case.

Agreed, I haven’t had a problem in the brief interactions. It’s a HUD, but I await the AR style seen in the launch video… then I’ll really be jealous of @HC_79

They had one with the power package and one without. I took the one without. Both mentioned were stealth.

There were “lots” of three rows available, I had a preference for two rows. After that filter he called out those two as having VINs already.

The one I selected had all other options, minus tow hitch.

Green, brown leather, two row, no tow, no tech. All else.

It isn’t. It is a parts shortage, caused by a number of factors. (I’m certain, but unfortunately also not my place to disclose details)

The HUD will be adjustable (which is via software); give it time. But yeah, it’s not an optics thing; the HUD, as built, is capable of a lot more than it can do today.

I'm relieved to hear that. I'm hoping that adjustability will be coming in a software update that will help fix what my particular vehicle is experiencing (and I've only seen the HUD on my own vehicle so I have no idea if it's operating differently than anyone else's).

@HC_79 Tbh, I was hesitant to even post my honest thoughts and early impressions of what we've been given so far regarding the HUD as I do realize things on the internet get amplified and mountains get made out of molehills and our friend that runs that banned "news" site loves to write BS articles over these sorts of things...Hence why I have the disclaimer at the bottom of my post stating that it's just my opinion from limited interaction thus far. I'm obviously a huge Lucid fan and want them to succeed and anything "negative" that's said can obviously hurt sales. That being said, Lucid also needs honest customer feedback to become the best that they can be (though I know they are already striving for that) so they need to hear how everyone's perceived experiences are regarding their products.

In case you’re not aware, while Lucid does actively look at these forums if you want something to get to them officially you can email Customer Care and they’ll send it to the appropriate team. The email is available in your Lucid App.

Any little quirks you find, I’d be sure to email them as well so you know they’ve officially received the info.
