Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

Got my VIN yesterday. Picking Mal up today! I think this was a car that someone else passed on, sounds like they just happened to have it suddenly available. 15 mins away from seeing her for the first time in Costa Mesa!

Time to see the X and 3!
Nice! Congrats. How did you arrange payment so quickly? Typically that isn't possible until a VIN is received, then a few days for payment to clear or loan origination.

It’s unfortunate the FUD on this forum is scaring so many people. The car is not going to be issue free, but Lucid is committed to making it as issue free as possible. Even with the glitches, need for reboots sometimes, etc, I love the thing. I’ve got a few minor items service needs to address (back seat passenger window switch on rear left doesn’t work, trim over rear window brake light is warped, trunk light doesn’t turn on all the time), but just being behind the wheel of this car rocks, such a smooth or vicious car depending on your mood. 7,000+ miles with many trouble free road trips, always storage room to spare. Yeah this issue where the car loses power which has happened to a few owners is concerning, but it’s only happened to a FEW owners and Lucid is not dismissing the problem.

When the car is delivered, you will have the opportunity to inspect it yourself. If there is something you are dissatisfied with , you may ask/ insist they fix it before you accept the vehicle.

Most cars probably will not have such an uneven panel gap upon delivery and this may have been bad luck/ poor QC.
Thanks. I'm glad it's not that bad up close. Hope I'm not disappointed with too many build issues.

Curious. Where are you located? Is your trepidation mainly due to reading about the 12 volt failures and/or instances of turtle mode?
Keep in mind, most people have had a pretty good experience with the car. In my limited time ( only about 2 weeks) , I have only experienced radio/tidal glitches ,occasional glitches in the AC ( brief shut offs ) and rare key fob/ car communication errors ( car won’t wake up immediately or car doesn’t shut down immediately). I am averaging 3.7 m/kWh , which quite good considering I haven’t had much of a break in period.
I unexpectedly love the glass roof, even on the hottest of days. I actually find myself taking the long way home from work because the car is so much fun to drive.
Anyway, just a little encouragement from someone who probably felt exactly as you did and took the plunge anyway.😉😉

I was able to guarantee cash in full quickly.

For those wondering, there were about 12 or so cars clearly ready at the Costa Mesa delivery center in Cali.

I’m just trying to be as objective as possible while figuring out how much I want to tolerate for such a premium vehicle. I want the car to unlock every time. I want the speakers to be killer (and consistent). I want the car to just do the most basic things, I don’t presently care if it can’t drive itself or any of that stuff. I know that can be worked on later.

The biggest gripe seems to be the software, and we’ve got another test drive setup in a couple days to reevaluate whether or not we’ll take delivery. I want this car, I want it to work, and I want Lucid to make it better. But, I don’t want to be a beta tester for completely basic things for $150k. (My Kia has unlocked every. single. day. For a decade now with no issues, why is this carjust unable to get this right?)

I thought I knew what I was getting into when I signed up for this but it’s definitely a little bit worse than I imagined. Nearly every single owner has had a physical issue and every single owner has had a software one so I know I will too. Just need to figure out what my limit is. I loved how this car drove the last time I drove it. I want it, I just wish it didn’t make my decision so hard, lol.

I’m in San Diego. I’d say it’s not even the 12-volt failures. I think if that’s serious, we’ll all get recalled anyway. I would hate for it to leave us stranded but I know it’ll be fixed thanks to the laws we’ve got in place.

Btw I think a new software update has fixed the AC issue. Love the encouragement, thank you.

I’m just thinking out aloud here so please just take this as my own interpretation of what I’m observing here and in the media.

I don't think that's true. It's human nature to complain when things go wrong, but people are less likely to speak up when they work as expected. I've had no problems with my car. It has unlocked every time. I've only used the fob, as that's how all my past cars have worked.

Makes perfect sense.

For me the key fob issue seems to be a very rare occurrence . When it happened , I just walked away from the car and then re-approached the vehicle and it worked! The mobile key is unreliable so I just use the fob.

The radio/tidal is definitely a tad glitchy and I think almost everyone here has experienced it. Probably an easy fix with software updates .
When the radio goes out, I just wait a bit , and then wa-la , it works again.

The speakers / sound system is a very subjective issue. Since I have toyed with it, I really like it, especially in Tidal / Atmos.

Anyway, good luck .

Just got my car. Confirmed June 21. VIN end of August. Delivery 9-20.

So far so good with exception of a decent scratch by headlight and small ones on front blade. Also the silver roof had a piece that was pinhead size that wasn't painted.

Attached pictures of my first actually build quality issue: when giving it gas on literal first drive the passenger air vent pull flew out. I think it just wasn't fascened down correctly. I'm anxious to see how quickly they get this solved.

The car unlocks every time, with the fob. If the fob battery is dead (happens, rarely!) it unlocks if you hold it on the pillar and push in the handle. Or just change the CR2032 battery. Mobile key is iffy for now, so just use the fob.

Sound system is incredible, as evidenced by multiple audio engineers (pro and amateur) on these forums and elsewhere. I had exactly one time where the bass cut out, many versions ago, and a reboot fixed it.

The biggest gripe seems to be the software, and we’ve got another test drive setup in a couple days to reevaluate whether or not we’ll take delivery. I want this car, I want it to work, and I want Lucid to make it better. But, I don’t want to be a beta tester for completely basic things for $150k. (My Kia has unlocked every. single. day. It works. It will get better. The software is the worst part, agreed. But unlocking is not an issue for the majority of owners, if they use the fob.

Nearly every single owner has had a physical issue and every single owner has had a software one so I know I will too.

This is inaccurate; it is selection bias. I had very minor fit and finish issues because it was the 241st car ever produced, but I’m quite close with service and the *vast* majority of owners have had no physical issues. When they have, it’s a random scratch here or there which is quickly addressed. The “major physical issues” are quite rare, actually.

Software? Sure. If the software were where it was when I got the car in January 2022, I’d say maybe hold off. As it is now it’s *way* better and improving constantly.

People come here to gripe and complain, and look for solutions. It is rare that someone simply posts how much they love the car, because most people feel much more compelled to share when something has gone wrong. The same phenomenon often exists in online reviews, which is why business will explicitly hire people to respond to reviews hoping to change them from negative to positive, and incentivize people to leave positive ones (with free meals, etc.). You have to take that into account when reading these forums.

Moreover, people tend to “dump” their issues on every forum thread, related or unrelated, and some do so from multiple accounts (still no idea why) which makes it seem even *more* negative and like “everyone is having these issues.” And people *exclusively* dump negative issues; even if someone does post about how much they love the car, they certainly don’t do it on every single thread.

Also, angry people tend to lean toward assuming malice rather than mistake. “Lucid clearly doesn’t care” vs “Lucid clearly is *overwhelmed* by interest and is still staffing up.” The latter isn’t an excuse, but the former isn’t accurate.

@Joe @hydbob maybe we could have a monthly poll posted that gets emailed to all the forum users and asks the general questions of overall happiness with the car? Similar to an NPS score? That might help address some of the otherwise overwhelming bias toward negative issues here?
