OTA 1.2.9

FWIW, I heard that noise early on. The service person made a house call to hear that and see a few other things. He said that that noise, (which comes from the left side of the car quite close to the firewall), is the automatic brake releasing.

Here we go!!

I‘m imagining Marty Feldman as Igor in “Young Frankenstein”: “Clank? What clank?”
Unfortunately, I feel like my car has the brain from "Abby Normal"!

Last person to get this update is going to be @MoniputerLM just like every other update 🤣

Also, walked behind wife backing up (slowly) and definitely stops like cross traffic. Solid update!
Damn, that's the way to test it!

I see it as a win…. Neither my wife nor Lucid tried to kill me 😂.
Well...maybe your wife did, but the Lucid stopped her... 😈

Noticeably more quite! Anyone who had heartache with it before should be pleasantly surprised!
Does anyone know the technical details behind this? My understanding was that the "clunk" was the result of brakes being mechanically released. How does a software update make that quieter?! Did they switch the hold mechanism to something totally different (not involving brakes)? Inquiring minds want to know.

It is doing the same thing mechanically but it sounds softer or more deaden? Disclosure: I am not an engineer and I don’t play one on TV.

It's completely possible they went with motor hold instead of physically engaging the brake. That'd be my guess as to how to get rid of that noise.

ok this may be the explaination… just tested on my slightly sloped driveway. The new hold versus the “park” function is different. The “hold” noise is almost non-existent transitioning from being in reverse hold to go pedal. If I place it in park from hold, it pauses briefly and switches to some different hold and the “clunk” happens. Again, that is on a slope and gravity is pulling the car back.

She said it physically would not allow her to hit me by auto applying the brakes. I asked her how she knew…. She was quite. Dinner will be awkward…. Cool feature!

Seriously? I can’t believe that a software update could mitigate that. Impressive.
