Vampire Drain

I started to use only fob only by turned off my phone Bluetooth. Yesterday, I left my fob in the car for 10 hours, the car locked itself with my fob in the cupholder inside. I used my back up valet key to open door and to wake her up. It had NO DRAIN. It was at 35% and and still 35%. This led me to assume BMS may be regulated heavily by software, if reading see you have abundant energy, it will turn on to cool off battery to extend its life.

Has everyone setup Wi-Fi?

I use a faraday pouch for my key fob.
I put my AGT in my garage at 82%. Key in pouch. Never took the key out.
Next morning percentage was 78%.
Why the drain beats me. Love to hear answers from the forum and whether I should report this to Lucid.

See my earlier post. I'm going to experiment. DC then AC charge to 100% and leave plugged overnight and see if there's any drain.

My car was charged to 90-100%, sat for a week at the retailers and lost 40-50% battery. The drain was … unexpected. After owning a ton of EVs, I wouldn’t call this normal.

This is unplugged, correct?

Plugged or unplugged?

Car is currently in hotel parking, unplugged. Last night was 57% according to app it's 59% this morning.

Should any car lock with the fob inside!
It shouldn’t. It was inside my garage. But then again, what if I was outside, anyone can drive away with my fob inside. So I think that valet key card to carry inside wallet is essential.

Unplugged, that GFCI 110v in my garage is basically useless, I’m still waiting for technician for 240v.

This is what I heard back from Lucid

Parked in garage at 82%. key in faraday pouch. next morning car at 78%,

Hello again,

This is Andre from Customer Care. I have been in contact with one of our battery and charging experts regarding your inquiry. They've told me that this change in state of charge is not out of the ordinary, especially if the vehicle has just been put away after a drive. The battery's state of charge is recalculated when the car is restarted, and variables such as heat loss after cooling down the battery can play a factor in the differing readings.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to reach out if you have any follow-up questions or concerns.

Cough, cough, B.S. Cough, cough. As I reported earlier, car connected to charger completed at 1:15am, but then drained enough to need to restart the charge but is not done by the time I leave for work at 7:30a.

This is a phantom or vampire drain. Why is there any battery drain when connected to 240v AC? You'd think all necessary cooling would run from AC when connected not the battery. I'm thinking software has to stop charge actively and it's not a simple switch.

We'll know after my little experiment.

I'll also do a calculation of cost of having to recharge back to 80% each day. This is my concern. This in essence paying twice for last 3%

Starting the test. Only used 12% of battery doing my normal daily activities. Battery has been fully charged to 100% since about 8pm. So far holding at 100% quiet, sleep no fans running. Cold and dark.

No Faraday pouches. Will repeat again tomorrow night.

Most likely, reading of battery can fluctuate based on surrounding temperature.
This morning car cold and dark no evidence of drain or a recharge.

I have yet made a complete full charge. I always charge to 80%~85% at EA station 2 miles from my place. I assume SOC will default phantom drain after EA charge. I am still waiting for 240v installation in my garage. The electrician assigned to me finally responded email saying he is on extended vacation, I hope company reassign another techician soon.

Are you planning on bidirectional power?

So far I experienced the drain when on L2 but only when charged to 80%. This is what I'm testing. If there's no drain tonight going into tomorrow but the drain starts again when I set to "daily" we know where problem lies.

Yes, I want bi-directional, but that can come later when there is actually a wall charger for it. Right now I just want a L2 charge station at home, I ordered QMeric right after I took delivery of GT. But they didn’t respond to me until I was ready to go out of country, now I’m back home, they have crazy high demand in summer. We are just playing e-mail tag game at the moment.

Make sure they run the right wire! Need size for 100a circuit. I also installed one of these.

It's an RV outlet box. It's designed for that size wire. Should make it easier for the Lucid charger install since panel in house needs 80a with this.

They quoted me for 100amp sub panel. I also just received WallBox last week. I’m still not sure how bi-directional work. So I need special converter at meter spot?

Are you sitting down? I charged using supplied L2 charger to 100% last night. Completed early this morning. I get to car in garage its DEAD SILENT. Charging light in port is dark. I unplugged and car works perfectly. This phantom issue, well at least the one I'm having leaving it plugged and it losing SoC and having to start charging again seems to be related to the 80% partial battery charge.
Maybe it is dark because you need to unplug. A safeguard?

Maybe a safety

No, if car is set to charge to 100% it's cold and dark in the morning. Once charge is achieved it is done.

If it's set to 80% it charges, losses battery charge "vampire drain" drops 3% then charging restarts. It's usually fans running and charging in the morning. By morning it has not gotten back to 80%.

I have not noticed a restart. Perhaps depends on the EVSE. If I charge to 80% overnight, it is at 76-77% in the morning.
