Car and Driver rates Lucid No. 1 in “Who makes the best cars”

For those of us who have been around long enough, we can remember when Car & Driver was accused of always favoring BMW in every comparison, because BMW spent the most on advertising with them. This was a constant complaint in the “letters to the editor” in every edition. C&D even addressed this because it was such a common concern. We know Lucid isn’t the top spender on ads, right? 😜

I blame the present societal collapse on Silicon Valley greed…..when influences with no expertise or knowledge can move the needle with help from algorithms….
Damn, I totally missed the current societal collapse - I need to read more than the WSJ, NYT and WaPo and numerous blogs! They totally missed that one! 🧦

I'll take the positive press all day, however garnered. I also think it's warranted, by the way. Software aside, it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. I think people sometimes forget about all of the other aspects of the vehicle aside form the software. It's a real joy to drive.

Well you aren’t reading bbc, Al-Jazeera, and the Hindustan Times. I mean you need to get a world view or you will miss it

I’ve been quite pleased with charge, drive, repeat

me too. Sorry others have had problems, however I just don't think about anything but what a pleasure it is to drive. Every day, all day, any day...

A third explanation is they had a car that operated and performed the way it was designed to and they absolutely loved it. It could happen. I'm driving a car that fits that description. Some on this forum (@socktucker) have not been so blessed. Sounds like you are in that same camp.

You're not gonna beleive this, but I got a new phone this weekend.

I walked up, pressed the door handle, and my car woke up and unlocked

THAT HASN'T WORKED RIGHT IN ALMOST A YEAR!! 3 DOOR HANDLES, 5 TRIPS TO SERVICE, LUCID COULD NEVER FIX IT!!!

of course as soon as i got in the car it wigged out and started demanding a PIN again...baby steps...

They couldn't fix THE CAR because it was THE PHONE! Huh!!! Maybe the new phone's signal will move the roof back into place! 🤣

I do not have information on car and driver, but this was the story about the very well respected wine spectator magazine several
years ago https://wineeconomist.com/2008/09/04/the-wine-spectator-award-hoax/amp/

I work in healthcare and own my practice. I constantly get approached by different publications for ‘best of ….’ listings and awards if I pay for them. All the ‘best of’ listings that you see in airplane magazines are paid for. I’m sure the automotive industry is no different. Lucid winning any of those awards is a telltale sign.
This has been the case at Wine Spectator for decades that things were pay to play. if not since their inception (I also collect wines so have followed the Wine Spectator a bit). I don't follow the car magazines nearly as closely as wine but I've never heard that C&D was a "pay to play" magazine.
