Connected Home Charger - Speed Decreasing on 100A Circuit

Just conjecture on my part.

Neither the charger nor the vehicle can detect the temperature of the wiring. The incoming voltage can be used to infer the wiring resistance.

The software could monitor the incoming voltage and if it senses too large a drop, throttle current. After charging for a while, suboptimal wiring may heat up causing an increase in voltage loss. The changes included in the May upgrade could have tightened the voltage drop limits, causing previously working charges to be throttled.

It’s entirely possible. It would just be great to actually have that confirmed (or denied). I still don’t know why this would’ve worked without issue for five years on a Tesla though.

It’s not the wiring. I’ve been using this charger for 5 plus years on a Tesla without any issue. I was using it on my Air since March without issue until the May update referenced in post 1 of this thread. No change to my setup pre and post may update.
All I know is that on mine the cable and plug were getting pretty darn hot.

My LCHCS was getting hot too. This one does not.

so like i think i said earlier, it could very well be that multiple root causes exist. i'll sit on my soap box.. call customer care, give them recent timestamps and let the team do their analysis.. what does one have to lose other than a few minutes it takes to get them the data!

Yeah, at this point, I’ll try giving them a call but given that their own charger was just replaced and seems to have addressed the issue, to me, would seem to suggest that there’s something on the Lucid side of things not on the individual home wiring side of things or adapter side of things that’s really causing this. They seem to have addressed it by an updated version of their home charger, but not through charging other home methods that were working fine previously.

Just checking in: are others still experiencing throttling issues?
I have not experienced the issue since Lucid replaced my LCHS. New one runs much cooler and no slow down.

That’s good to hear but anyone else using a Tesla gen 3 wall connector or other brand that’s still experiencing the throttling after say 20-30 mins into charge session?

@Miami_Lucid_Man , I recall your earlier post where you received the new Lucid 80A adapter for the Gen 3 Tesla Wall Connector, and I see you're still having issues. I may have comment how that Lucid adapter looked just like the Lectron 80A unit that I just replaced with the Tesla Tap 80A unit.

I'm wondering if it's the adapter? I've had other charging issues but since I've swapped adapters, I've been able to consistently charge at 48A without a single failure.

Yeah I was using lectron and now Lucid’s own. No difference. But again, everything was fine on the lectron until the update on page 1 of this thread.

Agree, and had the same experience as you did.
It would be quite a shame if I shelled out extra money to make sure I had the Lucid brand adapter and it ended up functioning in the same exact way as the Lectron, which is what’s happening right now. I’m still hopeful a future software update will address this. In the meantime for overnight charging purposes I can live with it.

I'd have to agree and would hold. I was somehow convinced it was the adapter but I suspect there is more going on. The other behavior I've noticed since that update is random "Charging Unavailable - Charging system error, contact customer care" warnings that pop up and disappear quickly while driving. This seems to be random and doesn't happen every drive. I've got a service appointment in January but I'm almost hesitant to take the car in.

Agreed. 👍🏼

Was there a fix to the throttling? I just installed a lucid 80amp charger at home and my charging started at 19kw and dropped to 11kw after roughly 30 minutes or so.

Some have reported fixes on the newest revisions of the Lucid branded charger. For the rest of us as far as I know…no.

I just installed a new charger and I’m experiencing this issue. Could it be that I need to connect it to online to download any new firmware?

I installed a "new" NACS LHCS 80A about a month ago. It has the throttling issue. It’s online, but I don’t think I have gotten any new software since then. Check out my charger info:
