Wait - what’s an RDU and how do you know that’s what caused my orange turtle of death? Is an RDU failure the only thing that throws an orange turtle?

I'd imagine it could be the front drive unit as well. Although maybe the Gravity is smart enough to use just the rear unit if the front is malfunctioning? No idea.

Only the first replacement. Per my service center, any future replacement after the first free one will not be covered under warranty.

The buttons are glued onto the silicone and are prone to falling off once one is already off.

I retract my earlier statements about 3.3.5 having fixed everything. Today I did see a brief instance of erroneous "no keyfob detected" pop up and disappear (Though it's much improved in this version whereas I used to see it almost every time)....and twice I've had to wait at least 20-30 seconds for the black screens to turn on upon entering the vehicle (though the length of blackness seems subjectively decreased compared to 3.3.2). I would say the black screens issue needs to be prioritized almost as highly as keyfob issues. Both are not a good look for an otherwise great vehicle.

LOL! If buttons are falling off everyone’s keys it’s a design, manufacturing problem. I wish Lucid luck in trying to keep providing poorly made keys and then say “you only get one replaced for free”

Agreed. This is yet another known problem, with well known solutions. Many widgets with multiple buttons have a flexible outer layer with the buttons molded in. The advantages are that the keys are full captive and cannot fall out, and it also prevents debris or liquids from getting in.

Totally agree. While I’ve not had any significant issues with my keyfob, I agree it has to be highest priority for Lucid given its huge impact on a subset of owners. However, the black screen issue (which I’ve had a few times) has to be next because it’s almost as disruptive and the non-early adopter crowd won’t put up with it like many of us are (currently) willing to.

Not getting keyfob issues so far, but the black screen is there but as others mentioned, it's considerably shorter, but still annoying.

Wow, yet another RDU malfunction reported on this forum. And, of course the one in the car loaned to Tom Moloughney for his recent "State of Charge" range test. Interestingly, Moloughney did not see the speed limitation, as he was driving at 70mph. His symptoms were reduced range and the inability to charge at a Tesla Supercharger.

I think the nominal cap is 50mph if the speed limit kicks in. When our RDU malfunctioned, the speedo was showing a maximum indicated speed of 52mph. The RDU had to be replaced. Other failures reported on the forum have seen similar speed caps.

When you had the RDU malfunction, was it sporadic? I called the KoP Service Center this morning, and the person who answered the phone seemed totally nonplussed by what happened on Sunday afternoon. She said it was very likely a software glitch (as evidenced by my final drive of the day on Sunday, roughly 20 miles at highway speeds) because a hardware failure would be much more persistent. But she invited me to call back if it happens again.

Didn’t someone in this forum have a sporadic drive system error due to the RDU overheating? That’s what I’m worried about here.

By the time we get replacement fobs, I am hoping PaaK will be out and my new fob will go right in a drawer.

Not sure. You'd probably also get it with a front drive unit failure, something another poster has already encountered.

When our RDU failed we never got the orange turtle. We were driving about 80mph on the interstate, and the car just starting slowing down to 50mph and holding. Lucid was able to do some kind of 20-minute reset from their end once we got off the road, and we completed our trip to Atlanta normally. However, while in Atlanta Lucid contacted us and asked us to drop the car off at the Roswell Service Center and take a rental car they provided back to Florida.

Nope that’s a new one.

Seen it once or twice in 1000 miles… reset fixed it for me… had to reset twice in a row one time and let all the processes boot back up. Give it a few minutes to reset after the reboot. Return from New Mexico to California in next 3 days… Should be fine but waiting to run update until within a few hundred miles of Phoenix just in case… carrying my FOB repair kit all the time for now…(spare battery, battery meter so i don’t toss the good ones… and a swiss army knife to open the FOB and the amazing battery packaging. Used to carry the FOB reboot instructions but now they are stuck in my noodle forever. Hold unlock while reinserting the battery.)

My Gravity frunk works perfect every single time.
I have never heard any seat squeak but do have a car seat in the left passenger seat buckled in.
My center console has never recognized my keycards, but does sometimes charge my phone wirelessly so I’m guessing I’ll need a new center console.
I also found if you use your phone app to unlock the vehicle instead of fob, it switches to guest profile, so don’t do that.
My right second row passenger seat will not move forward with the button unless I manually move it slightly first with the seat controls, then it moves forward for 3rd row access fine.

Every other issue is dumb software crap that’s all false alerts, black screens, etc. Navigation works fine too. Wheel buttons work fine. DDPro2 works REALLY well except this AM in very heavy rain it almost went over the lane marker without recognizing but otherwise it’s been great.

My DDPro swerved when old lines were still visible on road… not cool… caught in time obv but scary. I remember when my Tesla did similar stunts. This is why simply touching wheel is risky… keep a hand grabbing wheel until the road lines tracer gets a bit smarter.

Approached the Gravity and used the fob to open the trunk. Closed the trunk with the hatch button. Approached the drivers door which presented the driver handle but not the passenger handle. Got in the car, pressed the brake and seat and steering wheel adjusted to driving position. Key not present message and shaking the fob had no effect, car would not go into drive. Got my keycard and placed it and car went into drive. When I got home everything back to normal.

Have you checked the setting for only unlocking driver door on first push? Pretty sure there is a setting that sounds like what you are seeing.

Anyone else with 3.3.5 installed have a nav issue? It’s not moving at all for me post update. First, it thought it was at Lucid HQ. And it just stayed there even while I was driving. Then I restarted it. It then showed as me being home - but I wasn’t. And it still wasn’t moving. So I did another reset. And now it just stays with the red arrow at home. And it doesn’t move even when I drive.

I am hopeful a good night’s sleep will get it moving again. I don’t think it will be serious, but curious if anyone else had this happen with 3.3.5.

And this is why I am waiting to update until I am home from New Mexico ( no service centers) where I need the nav…. I can reset the fob a few more times to get back to the SF Bay Area where I know my way without the nav.

New one last night - car just started updating without any action from me. I was with a group of people who all confirmed that I didn’t take any action (they didn’t see me press anything when we got out of the car, and I didn’t have my phone out so definitely didn’t confirm anything in the app). The timing was terrible because we were driving to pick something up and parked in a metered space on a city street. The car was bricked for about 1:40 while it updated. My friends and I watched with update progress with bated breath from the outside of the car.

Sure hope mine doesn’t do that as I am at least 500 miles from an SC and not eager to drive a loaner for the long drive home if the update causes any serious issues.

It’s not “smart”, that’s why. It’s literally just following lines and the car ahead of you with seemingly no interpretation or context - exactly like the VW Atlas I just had as a loaner on a work trip or the Toyota before that one. Hate on FSD all you want, but at least it’s got a neural network and some “brains” behind it.

Yes, it’s like early days FSD. They’ll make it better, no doubt, but right now, it’s equivalent to what’s offered on many lower end cars - but for the lane change.

Oh do you not have the first fob update they did, not the one they just did for this OTA? That would probably explain it.

Would be useful if they gave us the version number of the FOBs… to help get this all understood better.

Advertisement. We need to see their commercials on football games, baseball playpffs/world series, hockey games, MLS games and NBA games. Expensive, no doubt, but that's where you are going to get a lot more faces to see the brand. Also on YouTube and other social media ads.

I know the feeling as I was just at a trunk (frunk) or Treat yesterday and so many people never heard of the brand, let alone either of the vehicles. They had no idea another brand existed for EVs other than Tesla and Rivian (to a lesser extent, but most knew of Rivian). So many people LOVED the Gravity and for the 3rd weekend in a row of show events with it (cars and coffee and Dirve Electric Alabama EV show) I've had people come up to me and say they had no interest in EVs but saw the Gravity and said this vehicle could change their mind, if they could afford it. I tell them about the upcoming mid size next year and it's at least on their radars now. Lucid has to get the word out, but we are all helping. Go to your local cars and coffee and other car shows and events! People want to see the car!

Looks like Lucid is on track to do just this, with the NBA and there is supposed to be an ad of some kind for the Knicks home opener on the 22nd.
