Gravity Delivery Discussion

They look like this.

In the pictures they don’t look as black as the tires Maybe a very dark gray?
The wheels themselves are grey ("Onyx Grey" according to Lucid) and the aero panes are black.

Well, two weeks ago, the In Production status went back to Ordered. My SA was surprised as he had been told the car was in post production review. As of yesterday it was back to In Production with a new VIN? The frustration is real. The problem is communication. Almost every thread in this forum could be solved with good communicaiton. When i got my Tesla Roadster #796, i had the number to the VP of manufacturing and VP of Sales. Could call them on their cell phones. I just need to know if this is a real VIN and when will the car get on a truck. It shouldn’t be that hard.
I think being able to call the executive team on their cell phones is not a realistic expectation. The time in Tesla's history you're referring to would be the equivalent to the first year of Lucid producing the Air.

That said, I agree that it would be nice if Lucid had better communication.

I just got notification mine is going into production ( supernova bronze, Oja, tech package etc) but no vin yet. Any one know how long between notification to assignment of vin to finish of build rough estimate?
When did you place your order?

When I got Air DE #241 I had everyone’s numbers too. But this isn’t 4 years ago.

That’s not a realistic expectation or desire at this point.

The communication is exceptionally poor. It's something I think they really need to work on. They risk pissing off a lot of customers with the more "mainstream" midsize launch.

The SA experience is highly variable. Some SAs are apparently very responsive, according to attestations on here. I have had communication levels that range from "OK" to unacceptably bad, across many individuals. SAs that go on long-term leave without notifying the customer, and that apparently have no backup. Managers that get CC'ed on communications about that leave, who never follow up. Emails that go unanswered for weeks, even by management. SAs that don't know the product well. I've now been passed around to several people; it's not clear who owns me as an account, and I can't get answers or updates. There can't be THAT many open orders that you can't have your CRM auto-tee-up a weekly check-in e-mail to open order holders, even if just to say "no status update." Anyways, it seems clear to me that there is not much systematization of sales/customer service processes.

But the lack of information to even communicate is also a problem. There is no apparent rhyme or reason to how orders are delivered. Supposedly Lucid customers would get priority. Supposedly DEs would get prioritized. Neither seems to have been the case. Many very early order holders still don't have vehicles. I understand there have been some supply constraints, but when you see there are combinations of cars going onto the site or being snatched up as inventory vehicles that contain all the parts for your build, and you've been waiting for 11 months, it seems that the factory is not taking a very systematic approach to scheduling builds. Maybe because of this, the SA's visibility into that process is extremely opaque, complicating the problem of communication even more.

I hope they can figure out how to do better.

I much prefer no information to bad information. Bad information (in the form of a repeatedly incorrect purchase agreement, the final version of which was still wrong and Lucid is going to give me a refund over), and bad information from Bank of America caused lots of wasted time and delays for me. But zero of that was the fault of my SA or Lucid, but the fault of BofA and Lucid Financial Services which is a BofA subcontractor. SAs do have limited visibility into the production process or timing, so often times they have no information to communicate. They are also VERY busy. But at least in my case both the SA and Sales Manager were very communicative the entire time when they had information to relay. If they did not have information I wouldn’t want them to wasting their limited time to tell me they had no new information. What I will say is that if there is a customer with a relatively normal production process, and another with a more complicated situation, their focus is going to be getting the more complicated situation addressed so maybe the standard ones fall by the wayside some? You’re certain you saw inventory vehicles identical to your order available? That does suggest this process is chaotic and I’m not sure why. Just like the DE numbers are not sequential, like mine is #145 but I’m pretty sure more than 145 had been built before mine since mine was one of the very last available to be ordered.

Lucid does use Salesforce as its CRM. I don’t think they use a lot of the native sales features - like when to call, follow-up, etc. They really just seem to use it to help with documentation. Even if an SA has 40 orders, I do think - even in a 20 hour part time work week, they could at least say “no update”, but that’s just not how they’re all trained and they’re not accountable. Okay.

My sense from dealing with really great SAs is they have spotty information at best. Bad information at worst. So like @Bunnylebowski said, I’d rather have no info than bad info.

Who’s to blame? Doesn’t really matter. I experienced these exact issues early on with Tesla and Rivian. You just have to deal with it or decide not to deal with it and buy a different car. Tesla got lots of grace as it was very early on (10+ years ago on first deliveries). Rivian got much less grace, but there was still some - same frustrations on Rivian forums 3 years ago though as we have here. I know, I know, that was the Air for Lucid, so it should be better. Maybe…but there is no “should”. It is or it isn’t.

My point is - totally fine and it’s justified to be pissed. However, I don’t think it will impact Lucid’s plans or service in any way. I think they’re trying hard. Is it good enough? No idea. Time will tell. People thought no one would deal with crap build quality and poor service when the 3 and Y came out and yet, everyone deals with it because they’re really the only cars in their price range with the feature set, etc.

I do know this. Tesla and Rivian service are horrendous right now. I own one of each. My wife (the one who would prefer a new X over a Gravity) is livid she has to to wait four weeks for the trunk latch on her X to be fixed - so she’ll ride around with it part open for a month. She asked if she got a Gravity would it be better and I had to honestly say “probably not unless it’s a safety issue, BUT you could at least speak to someone”. Her ears perked up as it’s not possible to speak with anyone at our local Tesla SC.

To me, the delivery process can be messed up and slow. Not ideal but you get over it when you get the car. Or you choose not to get it.

Terrible post-sale service is a total killer. Lucid seems to have the best of the worst right now, but no EV manufacturer does it well because there’s no competition. I hate to say it, but if there were five companies in the area authorized to fix our X’s trunk under Tesla’s warranty, that competition would be good for consumers.

I agree. I think sales communication is sorely lacking today. I also know most of the time they have nothing to say, because right now with all the supply shortages and things it is simply more unpredictable.

But after thinking about it more, you’re right that there should be regular check-ins, even if it is only “I don’t have any updates yet”

Agree. This is quite easy to do and could also be done quickly through the app if they’d let you login pre-delivery with your username and password.

I know they use some sort of software for texting as many SAs text but are not using their phones, so they could also just text you.

There is some sort of check-up/check-in tool they use in service as I got daily calls and they’d mention they were going through the system to mark the call and update it by a certain time each day. Probably the Service Cloud portion of Salesforce. I should note, I hate SF, but since they already use it, leverage it.

A general question on ordering/configuration/delivery. I ordered a AG GGT on 7Nov2025. I changed the configuration to SuperNova Bronze in July. If I decide to change my configuration, does this put my delivery date back farther? How many days after notice of "In Production" on the dashboard do I have to change my mind (I'm still on the fence about the upgraded stereo)?

Based on prior conversations with my SA, yes, it would re-adjust timing. I asked about the impact on timing if I changed my configuration to white from quantum grey, and was told could delay by 1-2 months or more. Nothing certain about that, but that was the estimate i was given.

Regarding the days notice, I was told I had 7 days to confirm I wanted to proceed prior to losing the deposit. Would recommend talking to your SA.

Tesla is not helpful to current owners. Depreciation is already steep. When they keep messing with pricing, yes, it’s annoying. You just have to “eat it” or drive it into the ground. My wife said she’d prefer to buy another X than drive the Gravity! Now we will need couples therapy!
I somehow managed to convince my wife to take my Air and trade in her Model S so I can get the Gravity.

Thanks much!

We dropped by the PPF installer today to take another look at our black GDE. While I think our green GDE is very sharp looking, it's hard to describe just how nasty (in a very good way) the Gravity looks in black with the stealth trim. In the flesh it looks longer, lower, and more muscular (especially with the 22/23" wheels) than in pictures . . . and from the rear looks downright menacing.

That’s a BS number from the EPA and because lucid didn’t feel like testing them separately from the 22/23s which are summer/three season AND heavier so probably do lose 40+ miles to the 20/21.

Reality is they’re somewhere between the range of the 20/21 and 22/23. I have the 21/22 on my car and they can be quite efficient. I’d rather have the 20/21 but would have had to wait longer and I don’t love Hankook tires, efficient as they are.
I originally spec'd the 20/21s, but changed it to 21/22 after reading all the test drive reviews on the Evo tires. Does anyone know why Lucid decided to use the Michelin Primacy Tour for the 21/22 setup instead of the e.Primacy?

I changed configuration (from Yosemite to Tahoe) after an "asset had been assigned" to my order. (As I understand it, this is a step that precedes production; my SA, however, referred to the asset-assignment step as meaning that the vehicle was in production, even though the dashboard did not show the vehicle as being in production.) I was told that this would mean "starting over" and delaying the process. I did it, anyway.

But if you change configuration before an asset has even been assigned, it's not clear to me that there would be any resulting delay at all---unless you added options known to have longer lead times such as lunar titanium or tech package.

I'll answer my own question - the e.Primacy (which appears to be a better tire btw) only has a limited set of sizes available currently and will not fit the 21/22 wheels.
