NACS Megathread

I don't want to "test" it by just plugging in to see if it works.
why not? That's better than arguing with strangers in the Internet (i.e. myself) who will tell you Lucid Air is not yet provisioned to use Superchargers (other that those equipped with MagicDock)

Charging Air Pure at Superchargers?
I haven't found an answer to this question yet so here goes.
  1. In the Tesla app > Charge Your Other EV > Add your vehicle details > Make: Lucid Motors > Models: Lucid Air Grand Touring, Lucid Air Touring, Lucid Gravity are the only options. No Lucid Air Pure optionas of today 7/18.2025.
    • Has anyone successfully charged a Pure at a Supercharger?
    • I don't want to "test" it by just plugging in to see if it works.
Given that my AT is restricted to under 50kW at V4 Superchargers, I don't think you have much to worry about.

OK got it. I have also read that even if you were to use a Supercharger the most you'll get is 50 Kwh. Unfortunately, I know from experience that even 50 kWh is better than many of the stations you get through EA, EVGO, ChargePoint, Francis Energy, Blink, EV Gateway, and EVCS. I've plugged into all of those across the country - and they advertise 150 to 350 kWh - only to have it max out at 40 kWh. It's often accompanied by a message saying - limited by station or something along those lines.

So yeah, I don't want to use a Supercharger, but...needs must. :)

To be clear, the great charging sessions far outnumbered the bad ones, but the bad ones stood out because they were the only stations around. No choice. I think I even had one session at or near 200 kWh! They were mostly in the 100 - 150 range which I'll take any day. EA and EVGO stood out, in a good way, on my 5,000 mile trip.

I see that now - in the Tesla app if you choose any of the Air trims you'll see that there are no Superchargers for you! Choose the Gravity and the 250 - 350 kWh stations pop up on the map. There you go. Except for the magicdock stations you mentioned.

I must have been sleeping. I didn't see the announcement that Lucid Airs can now use Tesla superchargers. For my Air Pure is Lucid providing an adaptor? I've not received it.

That has not been announced yet. I’m sure Lucid will come out with an adapter at some point, but there are many others available that have been discussed here before.

Other people have claimed to be able to do it, however, no official announcement has been made. Maybe they are in the testing phase and some lucky owners have gotten to see the rollout?

A friend who bought a Volvo XC30 a couple of months ago just called in a panic. He was taking his first road trip across Florida to Miami and returning home, planning to charge at the Tesla Superchargers on Snake Road (the only EV charging facility of any brand on the 110-mile stretch of I-75 (Alligator Alley) between Naples and Miami. That Snake Road Supercharger location was installed a little over a year ago.

When he arrived at the Superchargers, every charger had a sign on it saying "For Tesla Charging Only". He had recently received the correct adapter from Volvo, and he has used it successfully at local Superchargers to test it. When he plugged in, he got a message saying "Connection Established" but then just a spinning circle with no charge commencing. He tried several charging spots, all with the same result.

He called me to see what I knew. I checked the Tesla website, and the Snake Road location is listed as open to NACS Partners. It also has a notation that reminds you that an adapter is needed to charge other EVs.

He is back on the highway at much reduced speed, hoping to get to Naples for a charge before the final 30-mile leg further north to his house. We're waiting to hear if he made it or whether we have to fetch him and his cousin off the side of the road.

This is what I just pulled off the Tesla website about that station:

I know I'm a broken record to some of you about this. But after owning two Teslas, I'll say it again: don't trust a f***king thing they promise.

Time for you to drive your gravity there and test it before your radar install 😄

As someone who's buying two Gravities on the premise that the NACS deal finally addressed the miserable CCS charging situation in many parts of the country, I guess I'm failing to see the humor in this. Those signs that said the chargers were limited to Teslas only were not hand-written signs to warn of a temporary problem. They were metal signs mounted permanently to steel posts at each charging slot.

Tesla, while still claiming the location is open to NACS partners, has decided to pull it from the program. And I'm guessing it won't be the only such incident we'll be hearing about.

With Tesla sales dropping through the floor, Musk is probably starting to realize that taking the NACS funding to give away one of the few advantages Tesla still had was not such a good move, after all. And he knows with the current administration there will be no consequences for reneging on the deal. It's also interesting to see this happen in Florida, a state which will also do nothing about it.

Well, I do remember months ago when many of us were very wary of the switch over to NACS, but here we are.

If this does spread, the question will become whether CCS providers will continue to invest in the switchover to the NACS format.

My guess is yes because every manufacturer is already swapping to the format. It's still so far a net positive, even if Tesla starts switching sites off.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but this is a good example. Tejon Ranch / Wheeler Ridge on I5 before/after you hit the Grapevine to LA. It should be a great place to stop.
  • There are 24 Superchargers on the west side of I5.
  • There are 76 Superchargers on the east side over at the outlet mall.
  • Yes, you read that right, 100 superchargers.
  • Here's what we Air drivers get in the back of the parking lot behind Dennies. I mean the very, very far back corner.
  • 1 of 3 stalls was functioning. One said Unavailable and the other one was just not even on.
  • So yes, irritating to say the least. And the charging rate was horrible as well.
I'm also adding a photo of the EA chargers in Santa Rosa, NM. There aren't that many, but they all work, and the charge rate was good!

Do you know that as fact or just assumed? Did your friend bother to call Tesla to ask what’s up? I’ve been to 3 locations with the “Tesla Charging Only” and have had no issues.

FWIW - the location I’ve used down the road multiple times with no issues has those signs and I’ve had a flawless experience. Checking PlugShare though some Ioniq and Bolt owners say the chargers don’t work properly. Maybe it’s the adaptor or the automaker causing issues not actually Tesla.

I truly hope you’re right. But what be the purpose of such signs? I’ve never seen them at Tesla destination chargers, so they’re probably not there to discourage ICE cars from parking there.

They’re legacy. Some older sites still have them and newer ones don’t.

This is the one down the road from me. People have issues even though it’s open to all but at this location and every other Tesla location I’ve used (which is probably around 10) I’ve had 100% success. Maybe your friend just got unlucky and had they moved it to another charger they may have had a different outcome.

He said he tried two other charge posts and got the same result. There is a 24-station Tesla Supercharger plaza near his house, and he has used that a couple of times successfully, as has another friend also with a Volvo XC30. They finally made it to his cousin's house with 16 miles of range left. He's took his cousin's car home tonight as his wife was waiting dinner on him and will return tomorrow to try the nearby Target store which has both a NACS-partner Supercharger station as well as a bank of Florida Power & Light CCS chargers.

I had seen your earlier posts about the reliability you're seeing with Superchargers and was starting to feel optimistic about this. But his experience tonight and the experiences you just posted from others seem to reflect a hit-and-miss situation even with Tesla Superchargers similar to our CCS experiences.

For now, I'll just hope that Lucid is doing something right in utilizing the Tesla infrastructure that Volvo and other manufacturers haven't yet quite nailed.
