Gravity Delivery Discussion

Congrats!

I picked up today as well and had the same minor issues (gap imperfections) and few spots to paint correct. Planning to drop the car off for PPF + Ceramic Coating tomorrow

Is it better to get service to fix paint spots before sending it for PPF?
Any reputable PPF shop will do the paint correction for you, and probably do a better job than Lucid will, tbh. They are experts in that.

Congrats!!
I think your original review/comments on deciding between Air and Gravity, got me interested in the Gravity, and eventually ordered one. Also about the Valley Fair demo unit, and the Milbrae unit. Dang. OK Borski. I'm a Lucid owner because of you. :)

That's a lot of pressure 😬

Excited to meet one day. :)

Picked up DE #013. :) It is now dropped off for PPF so we can leave for Kenya tomorrow and arrive back in mid-July for a fully protected car. :) A few spots to paint correct, but nothing major. A few minor trim / panel gap imperfections which service will fix (and we noted on the due bill), but overall 100x better than my Air DE when I picked it up.

And wow, the software has come a long way. Terrible pics attached (this past week has been insane, and I have been running minute-to-minute, so these were snapped as @TribbleTrouble drove to the PPF shop, heh). Ignore the buttons that have no text; they do, it was just a quirk that a reboot fixed and never came back.

Also, release notes for v3.2.0 :) https://publications.infotainment.p...32-bc6c-9aa4b5485a72/content_en-US/index.html
Congrats! Have fun in Kenya!

First impressions of driving around with our DE today are positive.

Absolutely love the way it drives, turning radius is amazing, handles very well on the turns (almost too well). It’s a very fun vehicle and ultra spacious. Already put 6 people in the car and everyone told me it was surprisingly roomy

Probably got terrible range because was just having fun with it 😂 but hoping to do better in the coming days. Maybe some of this is also new battery? (Idk)

The one thing I have not been impressed with so far is the heads up display, maybe there’s updates coming / settings that need configuration. The content is too large and does not appear in my normal line of sight when driving (I felt like I had to change my eyes focus to see the content)

Also question for folks, where’s the CarPlay? Am I just lost but I couldn’t figure out how to set it up

CarPlay is not available yet it seems, but will be with a future OTA.

Oh, and we tested supercharging. Worked flawlessly, and instantly. Plugged in, charged, moved on. Couldn't test speed cuz we were at like 92% lol, but I can't imagine it would have been slow. DDP2 worked great; automatic lane biasing was neat. HUD works; it's not perfect yet, and in the sun there is some glare, but it's still early days for the HUD. It does work, though - just takes a little getting used to because it's huge.
  • How is door unlocking? With Fob, with Phone & pressing handle in?
  • Will the rear hatch open manually with the button?
    • Or do you need to unlock the vehicle first like the Air?
  • Does the Gravity wake up quickly from the mobile app?
  • Do the mirrors unfold when you unlock the car?
    • I feel that's unnecessary until you get into the seat and start to drive
  • Does the AC turn on just by unlocking the car?
    • I think that's a bit premature, should wait till you get in the vehicle
  • The Air starts beeping about the seatbelt if I touch the brake, before I've put it in gear.
    • Does the Gravity do this too?
  • Air audio volume is set to whatever it was last time I drove the car; which could have be loud LOL
    • Does the Gravity default to a softer volume the next time you drive the car?
It looks like the Gravity UI has a lot more "knobs and buttons" to customize the vehicles behavior; awesome! I'm hoping some of the "quirks" (IMHO) will be adjustable as well.

Thanks /keith

General question - as deliveries actually start (it appears), should we be moving questions about how it drives, how it works, etc to the owner thread that @borski had initially, I think? I don’t particularly care, but I know some folks are more regimented about organization of threads, etc.

As long as it’s not “coming soon” as long as Android Auto for the Air was, that’s fine. I’d rather they focus on getting them out the door and delivered.

Mega congratulations, @borski!

My biggest question: how would you compare the Dream Edition's responsiveness and "feel" to the GT you drove for some weeks?

  • How is door unlocking? With Fob, with Phone & pressing handle in?
Totally fine, but there is no mobile key yet. It will ship soon via OTA, but it’ll also be Apple digital car key, which should be great.

  • Will the rear hatch open manually with the button?
    • Or do you need to unlock the vehicle first like the Air?
I’ll be honest - I have no idea. We used the fob.

  • Does the Gravity wake up quickly from the mobile app?
Roughly the same as Air. Still LTE.

  • Do the mirrors unfold when you unlock the car?
Yes.

  • Does the AC turn on just by unlocking the car?
I have no idea. I’m not in it at that point.

  • The Air starts beeping about the seatbelt if I touch the brake, before I've put it in gear.
    • Does the Gravity do this too?
I think so, but I don’t remember. I always buckle quickly though as it starts the seats moving 🤷‍♂️ I know the brake does too, but I usually just buckle.

  • Air audio volume is set to whatever it was last time I drove the car; which could have be loud LOL
    • Does the Gravity default to a softer volume the next time you drive the car?
Nope, same as Air.

For sure! I strongly suspect a lot more options and toggles are coming.

@TribbleTrouble drove it straight to PPF and I didn’t get a chance behind the wheel.

Frunk close question: in Air we put something in the frunk and press its front wall button to close ( and quickly get out of the way). Much more efficient than going back in pocket for fob or to interior screens to close. We do the same for removing something from frunk. Never hold fob in hand while hand is in frunk.

While exterior button has advantages this strategy is not burdensome ( but fumbling back in pocket for fob, or on screens for us certainly is.

Is there a Gravity button similarly placed like the Air’s? (It can’t be on front wall)

Yes.

Aww, dang.

We're doing pretty much the same thing. The Gravity is already in Miami being prepped for delivery. When it's ready, we're going to drive over to examine it and go through the owner orientation to get the profiles set up, the hot button choices selected, the phones connected, the streaming accounts linked, etc. Then we're driving back home in our Air while the Gravity gets put on a truck to be shipped over to our side of the state for PPF before we put it on the road.

Our Air lost connectivity to my Tidal account well over a year ago, and no amount of effort through Lucid Customer Service or trying to get (non-existent) help from Tidal or computer-savvy friends could reestablish the connection, so I finally canceled the account.

Do you have Tidal set up on the Gravity? Do you think it's worth opening a new account and trying again? There's still no native Apple Music in the Gravity, right?

The Atmos experience in the Air was great but the Gravity takes it up a whole other level. Since Atmos is still only available in TiDAL on the Air\Gravity I would highly recommend you give it another shot. No native Apple Music App but I know many have asked for it so hopefully one day we will see It implemented.

One song I've found to show off the system is Anxiety by Doechii. The low voice sections and whispers make really good use of the system and then when it gets into the chorus you hear voices coming from everywhere.

That is pretty much what Kyle Conner reported about the Gravity sound system. So maybe I guess it's time to try again. I just get really irked at buying anything from a company with absolutely ZERO customer support.

I hear ya. Tidal’s support does suck. Their UX in the Air sucks even more.

But there is no better option today for Lucid.

A PPF question. Unlike perhaps most people in the forum, I haven’t purchased a new car in 11 years, so PPF is new to me. Does Lucid service center do PPF or you have to find a third party to do it? How much does it cost roughly?

You might want to check out this thread for a more thorough discussion of PPF:

Lucid does not offer the application of PPF. You have to find an independent installer, and the quality of the installer is perhaps even more important than which of the reputable film brands you choose.

The cost to fully wrap our Air with Xpel Ultimate Fusion was almost $10,000. But when I put down the deposit with the same installer to wrap the Gravity with the same film, it looked as if the charge was going to be closer to $8,000. I'll find out more about the difference when he actually gets the Gravity and we go over the installation details.
