How about 81 cents a kWh?

Welcome to San Diego, home of the most expensive electric rates in the country, and SDG&E has a fantastic New Year’s day present for you tomorrow! The peak rates are now going to be 81.6 cents per kWh. If Lucid was a gas car getting and EPA range 46 miles per gallon, a very efficient car, it would use the 10 kWh to go that 46 miles or the equivalent of $8.16 cents a gallon for the fuel.

Perhaps we can look at it another way. The average price for gas today is $4.37. That would buy you 5.3 kWh of power and enable you to go 20 miles if you get the EPA range.

Wow that's interesting and depressing. I haven't checked PG&E yet regarding 1/1/23 rates. My current peak rate is $.42/kwh which I thought was too expensive.

Wow! If Phoenix had those rates I couldn’t afford to cool my house, let alone charge my car.

As a point of comparison, I charge between 10am and 3pm at the super off-peak rate of $.03166 per kWh. Off-peak is $.1079 and peak is $.28185.

Welcome to the future where the power companies are the new OPEC!

Thats insanity. I have 9.4 cents a kWh fixed. It's more here in Tx now , closer to 12-14 cents a kWh but I locked in before the rates went up.

I have PG&E and pay the same peak rates. My last bill was $1,300. I have solar and Powerwalls being installed on 1/9. Glad I pulled the trigger before the fiasco that is NEM 3 takes over.

Glad I have solar!

Ouch, that electric rate is definitely ridiculous. Have solar here in San Diego and it pays for itself in no time as rates head that direction. Also have a few Tesla power walls for back up and to load shift. Have not paid a power bill in 3 years.

I’m in Phoenix also. I pay about $600 a month to cool my house in summer. I cannot imagine the SD rates. Who is your electric company? I have SRP.

Me too. Although we have outgrown the solar since we installed in 2004. Had already signed a contract in November to double my solar and install power walls knowing that the new Netmetering was going to be approved.

I’m with APS. In March I replaced my Trane with a Bosch Inverter Ducted Package unit heat pump. It’s up to 19 SEER. My bills went down at least 30%. If you’re ever in the market to replace your HVAC, I can’t recommend the Bosch heat pump highly enough.

I thought only Hawaii is super expensive. You guys definitely need solar at that insane price.

Get solar. I did.

I did the same with my AC.

Hope the V2H capability can allow us to charge off peak and use our car to power the house during the peak. V2G is something in future and we may get paid by PGE at that point.

We wait to winter low price to lock. Now we just locked with Green Mountain Energy at 15.9c/kW. A little higher, but mostly green generation. We had 24c/kW floating rate this summer with another provider. Our solar installation didn’t make it this year bc battery supply chain issue delay. I am looking forward for that installation for years down the road.

That is an great idea but one expensive car to be use as temporary battery storage.

I had a similar experience. I tried like crazy to go with a smaller solar company, but nobody could get Powerwalls and the most efficient panels in a reasonable amount of time. I also experienced some bait and switch.

I ended up going with Tesla and so far it has gone remarkably fast and the communication has been great. Pretty much the opposite of what I’ve read online. As a bonus, the price is much less expensive than literally everyone. Knocking on wood until I receive PTO.

Your lowest off-peak rate, when you would charge your EV if it had scheduled charging capability, is 40% lower than PG&E's EV2A tariff for northern CA. We pay a lowest off-peak rate of $0.25/kWh.

Same around your rates.

Also for those of you with insane Power bills, might want to look into the V2H system to take power from Lucid on peak and then put energy back in off-peak.
Or get solar panels lol
