Would You Purchase Again?

I realize this is anecdotal but my neighbor just had to have there Honda Odyssey towed for service and my other neighbor had to have his Volvo XC 90 engine replaced ( on Warranty)
My 2022 AGT 27k miles no meaningful issues at all but is still a great drive
So Yes I would
I get your point but were either of those vehicles a week or a few months old?

Still 29 months to decide on my 39-month lease, but, right at this moment, the answer is a firm "NO". I would not buy the Air if I were in the market today. What I would buy instead? The ..... Gravity!

I’m not in other groups for other car companies so can’t comment on that.

I had the lens of “well its a small population of people” because I love the car and want to believe that if I buy “my car will be different” but there are way too many people on these forums dealing with serious issues. I know people where I live that love the Air and would buy it again but all have also said its buggy. As others have said, it’s based on your tolerance and necessity/reliance for the car. Even the folks doing the reviews have said that this car will appeal to a different demographic that will be less tolerant of these issues. My feeling/opinion is that odds are high that you will have issues with the Gravity at this stage but severity is unknown and can change at any time. Again, my opinion.
I understand what you’re saying. But you’re also not an owner. You’re providing your opinion; of other opinions, taken from a subset of owners, who’ve had issues, and posted on Facebook. It’s anecdotal not an overall sentiment. And like many things on Facebook they tend to get amplified for a variety of reasons. And some of the sources are dubious to say the least. Worth considering? Sure. But I wouldn’t take it as a summation of the ownership of a Gravity or any other car for that matter.

Something else to consider. I own two EVs, a Jaguar I-Pace and Air GT. I’ve been largely satisfied with both since purchasing but neither has been problem free. From a software perspective they are vastly different. The Jaguar has received less than a dozen OTA updates since its production and the “In Control” software still has issues. JLR has largely abandoned software updates so the system essentially is what it is and I can live with it. I still thoroughly enjoy the car and appreciate its uniqueness much like the Lucid.
sounds like you got one of the earlier i-Paces.

JLR basically moved on from InControl (for the better) to the Pivi Pro and EVA 2.0 hardware architecture for their electronics around 2021 for their vehicles. they've been pretty much on a 4-6 time per year OTA update schedule on that platform. and yes, they are still pushing out the occasional (Pivi Pro equipped model) i-Pace fixes too that I see in the release notes.

Bit over a year for me owning my 2025 Air Touring. Day after I got it, drive system error, had to drive it to Millbrae service a couple days later as I could not get anyone to call me back to schedule after numerous attempts. 10 days later it was back and fixed. Few weeks after that got another drive system warning but before I could take it in someone hit me and dislodged most of the front bumper.

I drove it home, the other car was totaled (Air is literally a tank!). Couple months later ($35K, insurance handled) I got it back. Since then it's been "near" perfect. Not flawless. I have had the audio cut out or get garbled, screens go black or reboot unexpectedly, PAAK delays, etc. Except for PAAK performance/inconsistencies those things only happened a very few times and have, generally, completely gone away for quite some time with OTA's.

Since two updates ago, PAAK got a lot better. With the Latest update it's almost perfect now and the car unlocks at a substantially increased range (they really fixed something with it). Maybe 1 out of 20 times there is a delay, probably 10 seconds max (some of which is likely phone waking Bluetooth up). Still irritating that since my phone is not far enough away from the car where it resides in my house, it turns off hands free unlock and I often have to press the handle when I go into my garage, but I've become accustomed to that behavior.

So yep, would buy again (or Gravity, or upcoming midsize when the lease comes due).

Tesla is out (though my 2018 Model S 100D I owned for 6 years prior had essentially zero problems and drove where I pointed it. Ride was not as good, wind noise at elevated speeds was not great, and while the Air absolutely drives a lot better, I felt similarities between the S and the AIr. My Model S handled great, I could go into any corner, almost as fast as as I wanted, and it was glued to the road. That said, the AIr is a step up in everything, and often by a wide margin. Those that try to paint a massive differences do not jibe with my experience at all, maybe I got lucky. That said, never Tesla again (variety of reasons), Air is much more efficient (for me - even with spirited driving), plus the AIr is absolutely a vastly more premium experience.

Flawless? Nope, no way. Still enjoy the AIr more than any other car I have had.

I hear you and agree with you in terms of sentiments being amplified in forums and who knows what every single owner is experiencing because thats impossible with any car or any product. With that said, the experiences being posted are scary for any prospective buyer (i.e. me).

Yes. It’s a 2020. I’ve had newer loaner with Pivi Pro and while better it’s still lagging most other systems. The main issue with In Control is it tends to lag. But once I’m on my way it’s really not an issue. And strangely the native Nav guidance is better than any other car I’ve owned. Go figure. The real Achilles heel are the shrinking dealer network and battery modules in the I-Pace. If you know, you know.

Just remember that "60/40 in favour" is with an online forum, which can skew toward negative.
I think it's fair to add to that the weight of some of the industry reviews as well. and many seem to be in the 40 column; enouraging waiting for a time for the Gravity to gel like the Air did (or continues to do). though I know some here think there is some anti-EV bias for some of those journals. can't speak to that.

I personally don't need a 7 seater so ordered a 5 because of the promised 450 EPA; but it's not getting that. Now that the BMW iX (finally) has access to Tesla Superchargers, I find myself weighing a car that has lots of promise, but so many seemingly random crazy software issues, many promised features not yet available (Terrain Response, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, behind 2nd row "gap filler," PaaK, DD2Pro enhancements etc.) [Gravity], against another that just had a refresh after 3 years in the field to address a few issues and seems stable [BMW iX].

I recently had a Polestar 3 for a week and experienced some of its foibles, where on one day a software feature just wouldn't work no matter how I tried to fix it and then the next day the car woke up like nothing ever happened and was fine. not sure what my tolerance is for that. [that car was a blast to drive BTW]

The Gravity, for me is growing to be a sell tough in its current state, seeing the mounting negative comments here day after day.

Yeah, so just missed the upgrade. I have a '22 Discovery so I'm on top of the Pivi Pro stuff. I'm happy enough with it (except the ADAS, which feels like it came from 2017) and they are decent with OTA updates, but can always fall back to Car Play and AA if I want to as well.

I'm a bit ticked off at the whole i-Pace situation. JLR and Magna had a great thing going (ask Waymo) and then Jaguar decided to ignore motor and battery system updates that Magna wanted to do on that chassis and instead focus on developing their own BEV platform(s). And that's been an ever increasing delayed mess so far. Just fired their lead designer BTW. :(

Appreciate your point as well.
No the Honda looks to be about 5 yrs old. The Volvo also about 4-5 yrs old but my Air GT is over 3yo now.
I have to admit I never was concerned about my cars breaking down on me on a long trip but these forums have spooked me on occasion when taking the Air far away but all has been good thus far.

I appreciate everyone's thoughtful responses here. We've had Tesla's for almost a decade now (2 Model S's and a Model X) and are ready to try something different. I was quite excited about the Gravity when I placed the order back in the summer. However, I'm definitely having second thoughts now given the number of issues people are having and more importantly my distance to a service center. It seems like it's about 60/40 in favour of would buy again vs. would not buy again, which isn't encouraging given the cost involved. I'll lose my deposit if I cancel now that my order is in production, right? That's a minor factor, as better to lose $1000 then spend $100,000 on something we're unhappy with.
It's definitely not actually 60/40. There are very few Gravity owners here compared to all Gravity owners, and those that are here are more likely to be folks who have had issues, for obvious reasons. Few 'normal' people run to a forum to shout about the car they like. :)

That's not actually as relevant as you think. Many components in a vehicle have a bell-curve life span; that is, they either fail at the very early beginning of their lives or toward the end. In this case, you seem to have gotten the former for whatever the failure was; but this is true of every vehicle, not just Gravity.

I would absolutely buy my Air DE and Gravity DE again. Not for nothing, it's brought me many close friendships, some of whom I met on this forum.

But separate from that, they're the best vehicle I've ever driven. If Audi gives me an electric R8 or Lotus teases me too much or someone makes a fantastic electric roadster (I mean makes, not says they'll make), I'm down.

Given what's on the market today and in the foreseeable future? Hell yeah.

I got my AGT in March of '22. Early days indeed, with lots of bugs and a handful of recalls. That just goes with the turf of being 'First kid on the block with the new toy." Still I was impressed with how quickly things improved. Core usability and reliability issues were addressed first, as it should have been, but many howled about the infotainment and other secondary issues. Well, they were secondary to me anyway. This Spring will be 4 years with my Lucid. I haven't thought of looking for a replacement even with the warranty (except for battery and motors) expiring next year. The car has been dead reliable mechanically and maintenance is just part of owning cars. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Lucid if the need arose.

That’s true but the tails shouldn’t be fat early on is my point. Nothing lasts forever so you’d expect more issues later in a product’s lifespan.

Don’t belive me? Ask chatgbt (kidding! :-) )

Definitely would buy again. Started as an owner of a ‘22 Air GT which was easily the best car I’ve ever owned. Took delivery right after the big 2.0 software update so never really had any software bugs. For quite a while now, the software has been fully stable for me. And mobile key and CarPlay replaced my Fobs altogether. Hardware has been absolutely rock solid whereas I’ve had issues with nearly every other car prior to that. My wife actually took to driving that instead of her Navigator first (service at our Lincoln dealer was horrible - couldn’t even get them to respond) and now her Suburban. Now with my Gravity, it’s unfair how the thing drives. A 7-seater vehicle shouldn’t drive like this. Are there software bugs every now and then on mine, yes, but nothing that i haven’t experienced in a Tesla. No hardware issues thus far. Mobile service in our area is awesome too. The charging speed on the Gravity is outstanding and full SC access has been a real game changer. Zero range anxiety whatsoever on either vehicle.

For what it’s worth, we would be an all Lucid household had someone not backed into my Air, which is currently at the body shop. My wife can’t wait to have it back…

Ultimately, folks have to do what is right for them.

I would hate to not have my 2022 AGT. Have had a string of 'greatest car ever' and this one fits the bill. I would want another for sure. I have had minimal issues with it. I have had more concerns with the horror stories of the forum. I just dont relate but then one wonders: am I next? This is the first forum I have followed and realize people are more likely to complain than praise. We also have a 23 Mach E which has had zero issues. So yes I would buy again. Truthfully I worry as much about the current anti-EV administration but as long as Europe and China are charging ahead, I think the long term outlook is good. I would not want to go back to ICE. I also dont think I would want a car with no warranty on the battery so in a few years I will have to make the big decision. Crash tomorrow? I buy a Lucid if replacement is needed.

Gravity owner for a bit over 1 month. Overall great experience. Minor software annoyances like the HVAC. Zero major issues. Software will improve. Hardware is superb. I look for excuses to drive the car.

9.5/10

Would absolutely buy again. Nothing else comes close with the performance, luxury, and space. There is no legitimate competition for the car itself.
