That the only shot available? For 3k I expected to be able to see time and call me crazy, maybe range.
It was a car parked in a studio in a mall. Not like I could throw in Drive and turn on Drive Assist. I can pretty much guarantee it does or will show way more, and that when you’re parked there’s just… not much to show.

I tried briefly moving the positioning around but I had limited time because I wanted to be respectful of everyone else who wanted in.

Thanks for taking the time, it is after all the only confirmed and recorded sighting so I guess it’s a win…

Supply issues? Or play store certification? 🤪

Hm. It worked for me, I think? But I only briefly tested it.
I played with it again today while waiting for my test drive appointment and experienced the same thing... But...

I think it may be my misunderstanding. I expected to click the buttons and have it move up or down a click, and that didn't happen.

But, when I got in the test drive car I tried adjust the wheel and it wasn't responding. It turns out, there is about a noticeable fraction of a second delay before it starts moving, so I wasn't holding the button down long enough to move the wheel. I'd press, it wouldn't move, I'd release and think it wasn't working. When I realized that I had to press and wait it worked fine.

Perhaps that was my problem. I didn't go back to the studio to try again.

Yeah the HUD works the same way

Went on a test drive and HUD was working but was severely pixelated. Nothing like they showed on the introduction video on the car. When asked the Lucid employee. He claimed it was preproduction model and they haven’t worked out everything yet. Hopefully, that’s the case. Because if that’s the end product when I get it I will keep it off and just use the clearview screen.

Who wins the poll if there aren't actually any GDEs delivered in May? ;)

(I know there have been one or two stunt deliveries but there's precious little information on those, so it's debatable whether or not they count)

They delivered the vehicles in May, to people who paid money for them. Sounds like a delivery to me. What do you define them delivering a vehicle as?

Someone mentioned that the hud isn't what is shown in the videos, that it doesn't actually do an AR overlay. Is that true?
Correct. The AR portion of it is not out yet. But the hardware is there and the HUD focal length does paint it on the road, not the glass.

Does it work? Yes. Is it done? No.

We've seen some reports of some Sun conditions causing a visible reflection off the HUD display. For those early owners who've seen this, can you describe what Sun angle causes this to occur? When I get a chance to test drive a HUD equipped Gravity, I'm curious to try and reproduce the problem, and see for myself how annoying it is.

So, I had the glare issue for the first time today. I didn't notice exactly what angle the sun was at. It's not *that* bad but you can definitely see the physical screen reflecting off of the windshield and it was kind of a "white-ish" large square.

I figure I can also comment some more about the HUD overall...It's definitely a work in progress as we've already established here. More concerning for me though is not the lack of content but moreso the actual optics of the system. When I took delivery of the vehicle it was off by default and I turned it on to see it for the first time with the rep next to me. I think he could immediately read my reaction to it wasn't great. He then asked if I thought it looked "wavy or wobbly" to which I replied "yes" as that very much describes the image you see if you move your head from side to side while looking at it. Having had a HUD in my previous 2 cars (Audi and BMW), I could tell something was off. It seems to have a VERY narrow lateral field of view that seems to distort the image unless you are looking at it from a very small sweet spot. It also did appear a bit "wavy" (and NO, it's not the windshield glass--that was my first thought). Also, as Borski pointed out in prior post, the focal length is definitely different than what I'm used to from my previous cars.

This brings me to my overall understanding of why the Gravity GT is being made without it currently. My experience with it makes me question how much a software update can actually improve the HUD display visual experience (I'm not referring to the content displayed but rather the actual rendering of that content). I'm concerned that, to at least some degree, the true underlying issues may actually be physically within the optics of system. I have to wonder if the "delay/shortage" we are being told about is really actually some sort of quick redesign. I will be the first to say I would not be surprised if all the Dream Edition owners end up with a mobile service appointment down the road for a HUD unit swap.

Just my 2 cents. Again, this is all my opinion from my limited interaction with it thus far.

I just wanted to share that this discussion has been very helpful to me. I have had cars with HUDs, and I had selected the tech package in my initial order (opening day). With the parts issue, I then went to a Dream Edition order. It was radio silence from Lucid on the DE, I had anticipated paying a premium to get a bit further advanced in the build order.

With this thread on the quality of the initial HUD experience as well as the delay on updates on the DE, I called my advisor earlier this week and asked to move to a non-tech package GT.

They connected me with a car with VIN during that call that was very close to my initial order (I had wanted the smallest tire package, this one has the Michelin all seasons). He indicated I should have the car in about two weeks. Millbrae is the studio closest to me and is where I'll be picking up.

Thought I would share in case others might benefit.

For those with the DEs, I am betting there are a few more iterations on the experience coming your way. I am optimistic they'll get it much better over the next year, less optimistic in the next 6 months. That's pure speculation on my side, but as a pretty seasoned software guy, once GTs get in customer hands I believe they will work on higher priority bugs that affect all Gravity SKUs. There just won't be enough DEs out there (low dozens is the trendline) to put priority on improvements for DEs only--again my guess based on nothing more than my experience in shipping software.
