WearOS app for Lucid Motors' vehicles

Out of curiosity, can this app also act as a key for the car?
Won’t be a key but what’s awesome is that it’ll wake the car if it has been in deep sleep so when you get to the car with your mobile key, it works as we expect the mobile key should to work. No more waiting for a minute or so fiddling with the phone app by the car to wake up.

Another use case today was opening the frunk from the watch as I approached the car with groceries versus pulling my phone out, waiting for the car to wake, and clicking open frunk from the mobile app. Much easier to do from the watch face when I have it as complication on my Galaxy Watch. Very happy with what @DeaneG has built in even this first version! 🥰

Oh, I hadn't thought about adding an app shortcut to a complication on my everyday watchface. Good idea!

When I get a chance, I think I'll work on fixing the truthfulness of the button's state indicator to eliminate those tens of seconds' inaccuracy after a button push. I'll aim to display a spinning circle indicator until the state returned from the cloud API matches the button's intent, with a timeout in the event of bad connectivity, similar to Lucid's phone app.

Here’s a quick video of how simple it is.

Looks great! Does your watch have a 40mm display size? I can see that the confirmation button need to be fixed so that the text doesn't wrap.
I chose to keep the display elements the same dimensions for any watchface size and just adjust their spacing. I could make them proportional instead, or use a checkmark and an X instead of Confirm and Cancel.

That was going to be my next feedback to you. It’s 46mm display Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. I knew you were building around your Pixel Watch so didn’t think it major.

1. Occasionally, it loads up the login status to either refresh or logout as options for a second as you see in the video. It doesn’t happen all the time.

2. The confirm font is a little big so it skews the graphic on the options for the three actions that require it.

As an aside for those with careers in software, I was a bit shocked to be typing at a CLI in a terminal window to get simple things done while building this app. I first did that almost exactly 50 years ago and am surprised that's still the process. The terminal window I'm using doesn't even support cut or paste.
I keep telling everyone how little has changed while so much has changed

It's true, we still basically use the equivalent of an abacus

Is there any risk from Lucid asking the app to be pulled? The saying "No good deeds something something"

I would say is to make an open-source GitHub repo with all the necessary legal jargin that Gemini or your AI of choice can spit out. Let people build on your work versus worrying about how to gatekeep it.
They could, but it's unlikely, as long as it isn't confusing; don't use the Lucid logo/bear, ensure it is very clear it's a third-party app, etc. They still could because it uses an unpublished API, bit I highly doubt they would.

Plus, I'm sure @marqie could advocate to the right people if it became an issue (they have not said a peep, ever, about HA other than being excited about it, for example, so I don't see why they'd start now)

Just so y'all know, I've started working on the Garmin app. Well kind of. I had to make an android app for it to proxy thru first.

It's ugly and basic, but the Android app is working side loaded onto my old phone.

What little interface it has is mainly for testing the functionality of hitting the APIs and getting the vehicle status, since it's main purpose is just to proxy the requests from the eventual watch app, since the Garmin watches can't devs auth and send the commands directly, at least according to Claude.

I'm tentatively naming the app "Orbit for Lucid" cuz why not?

I'm keeping the GitHub repo private until I'm a little further along, but here's a little teaser screenshot from my testing app... Don't you just love my advanced UI design?!

It look better than the UI that Argon put together for me, before I'd given it any guidance!

is it possible to add an app as a complication to the pixel 5 watch face?
Yes, edit the complication on the watch or on the Watch app on the phone. Under "Wear OS" select "App Shortcut", then select the app for the shortcut.

I've got a suuuper alpha level version of the app for Garmin up if anyone is crazy enough to try it. It works on my Venu3 and Pixel 10 Pro. The watch part compiles for the Venu1X and Fenix7 but I haven't been able to get the simulator working yet (I'll try again later) so I don't even know if it runs in the simulator let alone a real watch.

Obviously this is a "self-build and sideload" kind of deal at the moment, and this initial version:
a) Looks terrible - no real 'icons' just green text
b) Phone App: Can lock, unlock, and turn climate on/off (21C/70F only) and shows the SoC and charge port state. Obviously you can do all that from the official app, but the watch needs the phone companion app so it didn't really cost anything to add the actions
c) Watch App: Shows SoC, the lock state, and the plug state. Clicking on the screen lets you lock/unlock or change the climate state. There's also a 'Glance' that shows the SoC, lock state and when that data was last updated (Glance does NOT auto refresh (yet) - it only reads from the last time you opened the app on the watch)

I do plan to add a few more features before refining the UI. I'm also REALLY tempted to eventually make a full on watch face with complications to do all the things (gotta have stretch goals right? )

It just dawned on me that these watch apps will be a super handy option for the folks who keep complaining that the car locks with the key/phone left in the car.

As long as your phone is still on and has cell service, problem solved.

I agree it's a great idea, but if there are folks having issues with the key fobs, phone app, and the card, there'll be situations where adding the watch app on top of the 3 still won't eliminate the problem.
Such is life, though, and it happens to all of us in some ways, shapes, or forms.
