Lucid Air Pure
Hello Fellow Lucid Owners,

I updated my Lucid Air Pure last night to the 2.3.11 update. As I was driving today, I accidently pushed down the parking button on the right stick behind the steering wheel instead of the button for the windshield wipers on the left (which is what I had intended to do). Suddenly, I heard a loud screeching sound which I assume were the parking brakes trying to take hold. Luckily I was driving very slowly and nothing happened, but I was surprised such an oversight could occur as, by default, that button shouldn't work when the car is moving. I hope someone from Lucid Motors sees this post and notifies whoever is responsible for the updates to fix this issue, as it potentially could be dangerous if someone were to be driving fast, or at the very least, might destroy the braking mechanism.

Just thought of giving everyone a heads up.

This is expected behavior, and you’re not the first to accidentally do this while meaning to clean your windshield, lol. It’s been discussed here before.

Also worth mentioning, this is not new behavior. It's not specific to newer versions of the software.

Parking brake is a misnomer. It's really referred to as an emergency brake or e-brake. Over the years people got use to calling it a parking brake because that's the only time they use it.

While I haven't looked at the e-brake system on newer cars, the ones that are electronically controlled. Cars just slightly older have actual cables, that provide a secondary backup method of applying the brakes in case something in the primary system fails.

You definitely want to be able to activate an e-brake system at any moment. For emergency situations.

The other issue is that “emergency brake” is an overloaded term due to the fact that modern cars have an emergency braking system that is a computer, and has nothing to do with the classic “e brake.”

E brake used to be a physical cable attached to a rear brake that was actuated manually in case the hydraulic brake system ever failed. I've never used it in an automatic. Only used it on a standard transmission with clutch as a parking brake.

I would also guess that new electronic systems still use some type of secondary method of clamping, so that in the event the hydraulic systems fails the car can still be slowed to a stop.

I didn't even realize there was a 2.3.11 update out. What's in it?

This is a regional one, nothing for the US. (Also we're on 2.4.10, not 2.3)
