Unlocking with mobile key unreliable

i run into this issue sometimes when the car wouldn't unlock (I only carry my phone these days - no fobs). the one thing that always helped is taking the iPhone out of my pocket. it immediately unlocks the car. you can also try pushing the door knob to 'force' unlock the car.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this has something to do with the Bluetooth signal itself. When the phone is in your pocket it is possibly blocked by the middle of the car. When you take it out, you lift it up higher and the sensor inside the car can “see“ the phone better through the glass. I have no idea if this is actually true, but it certainly seems to be correlated in my car.

Just having the app is not enough. Has your family member set up mobile key properly?

The mobile key is paired with the car. Sometimes the car unlocks. Sometimes it doesn't and, of course, we remember the cold days when it doesn't.

Do you mean anything specific when you ask if we set up the mobile key properly? Anything for us to check?
 
Just a quick update here. A few months ago my door handles were all replaced and unlocking with mobile key was very reliable. Several months later, both handles on the passenger side will not open the door with mobile key now. They push in as expected, do not push out and then have a slight resistance to being pushed in. The driver side doors open fine. I'm turning the lease in hopefully within the month as I await my gravity so I haven't put in a request with service- I'm saving my time and energy for gravity bugs.
 
The key fob is just not reliable, neither is the digital key on your phone. Last night, again, it was raining heavily, my car was in the driveway, and I had to decide again whether I should take the chance of walking up to the door with my phone as the key, knowing that the door might not open or might have a delay in opening, while I am getting wet. And forget about it if you are carrying something, as I was. I used the addition technique of opening the phone app and opening the door with the app. But of course, I had to put what I was carrying down to do that. This is just so substandard. Two other comments about key access. You just shopped and are carrying bags in both hands. You walk up to the car from the rear and want to put the bags in your trunk, but you have to walk up to the side doors, open the care so that you can open the trunk. Why don't they put a sensor around the trunk to open the car? And once you have successfully opened the car, using any of the keys, IT SHOULD STAY OPEN. I have opened it from the side, gone to trunk, opened the trunk to put stuff in, only to have the side doors lock by the time I am ready to get in and drive away! Honestly, I love so much about this car, but I have already decided to give the car back and get a BMW I5 when my lease is up in February. So sad...

Hopefully future refreshes address these issues. As my time with my vehicle comes to a close fingers crossed that the gravity has addressed the key problems.
 
I stopped using the mobile key entirely since it was nearly 100% unreliable.

However, the key fob hasn't given me any issues.
