Tired of lack of Android support

You are correct in every way. The lesson I have learned here is to never buy any product assuming it will improve in the future even if the manufacturer promises such improvements.
There are literally two posts one right after the other where one says “say less and give no estimates” and the other says “give more estimates and adjust them as needed.”

You can’t win. If you can’t win, is it worth playing the game? So I guess the takeaway is say nothing? Surely, that’s not anyone’s desire.

Obviously, the best solution is to release AA. But if that’s out of their hands, then what? Is the best solution to pretend no progress has occurred and say nothing until “surprise, AA is out”?

I’m asking in earnest. Short of AA already being out… what is it anyone would like Lucid to say? They have apologized, explained, clarified why there is a delay, and made clear they are still actively working on it. Should they have said nothing instead?

It was *us* that pushed them to communicate. So they did. And now people seem to want them to communicate less, because apparently disappointment feels worse if you’ve been communicated with?

The delay is painful. The fact that’s it’s been almost three years is absurd, I completely agree. But surely “say nothing to us anymore” isn’t the right approach either?

Maybe I misread things. I want more communication, not less. Even if it is bad news.

When I write investor updates for a company I’m running, I write them no matter what. The good, the bad, and the everything else. When I’m an angel investor in a startup and the updates stop coming, I know it’s bad news, and I’d much rather they communicated the bad news than pretend there is no news.

The frustration is not unreasonable. The jumping down Lucid’s throat for… finally communicating? I’m not sure that gets to the end goal anyone wants.

But maybe it’s me.

(And I don’t disagree about not buying a car based on future promises. I was not reliant on CarPlay when I bought the Air. If I really cared about CarPlay, I wouldn’t have bought it until it was out. I am not suggesting this is a good situation or process, nor am I blaming the buyer. I am simply agreeing with you on that aspect)

At this point I've ceased worrying about if and when Android Auto will appear. My main complaint is that when I bought my Air Touring in February, 2023 I was assured by both my sales advisor and delivery advisor that AA would be added to the car before the end of the year, if not in the next three months. At best they were misinformed and at worst they lied. I didn't buy the car based on whether it included AA, but it was an important consideration.

At this point harping on it in this forum doesn't bring it any closer. I'd rather just wake up some morning, whenever, and be pleasantly surprised that it has appeared in my car.

And this is entirely reasonable. I’m honestly upset *for* you, lol. I’d be upset too.

The unfortunate lesson here is “never trust anything a sales advisor tells you.” We’ve seen time and again that they have less information than we do here. And worse, when they don’t know something, they tend to make up answers out of whole cloth.

THIS I will absolutely ding Lucid for. It’s an easy thing to fix with better training. And while it’s par for the course in the auto industry, Lucid should strive to do better.

I would guess that the majority of Lucid owners aren't on this forum. They likely don't know that AA is missing. They are just enjoying their cars. When they finally get AA some will find it a happy surprise, others won't even. Notice and just St keep enjoying their car.
For Lucid to thrive, it needs a lot of ordinary drivers who just use their cars, enjoying the ride and comfort. Look how hard it is to get people up update their computers and phones.

This is an extremely important point. We estimate about 2% of owners have ever visited the forum, and less than one percent are active on it.

I have no skin in the game on this issue but I can understand why people are pissed. Yes, the apology came, yes the communication came but it took years to get to that point. You can’t keep saying “soon” and expect no backlash when “soon” turns into months and months yet you just remain silent. They did it with DreamDrive Pro, they’ve done it again with the hands free HA. Peter mentioned “soon” maybe 5 months ago. Almost half a year isn’t “soon” so they need to stop with these statements when they have no clue when something is ready as it just aggravates people.

The bottom line is, communication should have come a LONG time ago. I don’t think people will raise pitch forks if a company says “hey, we promised this but due to unforeseen circumstances it’s delayed and hope for 6 months” etc. early on. The problem is they left it for years and what may have resulted in annoyance but understanding if communicated earlier has just turned into annoyance and anger.

This isn’t a case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. It’s a case of Lucid took way too long to openly communicate about this and now people are simply fed up. Hopefully, lesson learned.

I don’t disagree with anything you said. I also understand why people are pissed.

Both things can be true, unfortunately. I’m hopeful that from here forward (especially once AA is out) the communication is more prevalent.

MSN's article of Lucid Air says it's now supporting Android Auto... Smh....

Can't be more than six more months, right? Even if Google asks for some minor change and then needs to re-qualify the release before it can OTA.

I really do think that in this case “soon” means soon. But I have no idea, and no inside information or anything. Just a gut feel.

I’ve also been wrong before, so 🤷‍♂️

They are very tightlipped about it. I sort of understand it, Android Auto was the first time they’ve actually given a specific time period for the release of software, and then they were wrong, and everybody jumped down their throats. Now, perhaps they are gun shy.

I agree, I was just thinking about what the worst-case upper bound might be.

Obviously, it depends on the definition of "soon". Lucid has redefined "soon" and is extending the timeline every day. Lucid's definition of "soon" is currently around 3 years.
I hope it doesn't get to 4 years.

I even bought a dongle the day before mcr16 weighed in with the Fall 2024 date. I was so assured by his statement that I returned the dongle when it arrived.
I wanted to believe.
Never again.

Well to be honest it's 2x they have had a timeline on AA. The first was 2+ years ago, albeit not very specific and may have been driven by marketing, and the second was this summer and was very specific and communicated by their head of global communications. I think it's somewhat justified that people are more irked than usual. But I also agree with the sentiment that you buy the car with the features it has, not what is promised. For those that are fully committed and not leasing, it's a bigger issue.

I use android while my wife has iphone. I checked the new app today, its good, sleek design but I won't fuss much if I don't get same UI experience in my android. In day to day driving, it won't add much value to me. So I dont care if they keep same app design for Android. However I really wish they release AA soon simply due to better navigation support. Many times when I use Lucid navigation, it doesn't take me to destination accurately. For eg, when I put KOP EA charger destination, it drops me to a street next to EA. I can walk to EA but I cant physically drive there, I have go around, enter the mall and then drive upto EA station. I have seen similar inconsistenties in many other destinations too so I defer to google maps on phone which means inspite of having such large glass cockpit, i am looking at tiny screen in my phone for navigation. This is where I think Lucid should look to prioritize and do whatever it takes to get AA support. Not saying they are not already doing it but somehow need to accelerate.
I can share with a high degree of confidence that Lucid has not only done everything they can do to get AA launched, they have escalated it as well. As others have said, it's on Google at this point...

Exactly...oh by the way, when is V2H coming?😏🤪🤣
