We're talking a car well into Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche pricing here.
If Lucid were to bend to your demands and deliver your Gravity in the next couple of weeks, I can only assume we wouldn't be hearing any gripes from you about malfunctioning accessories, inoperable software features, or not being able to get into the car, right?
It you want a flawless car it doesn't exist and even more so in the EV world. Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche have all been getting dinged on issues. None of them major, just like the ones you're pointing out on the Gravity,
I couldn’t care less if the tray table broke or the seat was unusually noisy. That’s what warranties are for, and this is par for the course in a first-year model from any manufacturer. I think you’ll find that while I may be critical of Lucid in certain areas, I’m more than fair and reasonable when they fix or rectify something. Do I have to push the handle on the car every now and then because I can’t be bothered taking my phone out of my pocket for the car to open? Yes, but I certainly don’t come here and complain that I had to press the handle five times out of 100, so the car should be deemed a lemon.
Software aside, my main consistent issues with my Air were the steering wheel creak and the parcel shelf creak, which went in multiple times to be fixed. I don’t take issue with the creaking, but what I do take issue with is that the car went in three or four times over many months to have the same issues fixed. In that regard, Lucid does deserve to be called out because they’re digging their own grave by not fixing the issue properly the first time it went in. People complain about Service Centers being backed up, this sloppy repair work leads to that problem.
Do I want the Gravity tomorrow? Yes, it’s long overdue, and Lucid has informed us that deliveries began in December. However, if they had simply stated, “We’ve encountered some issues, and expect a 3-month delay,” Would I be a little disappointed? Yes, but I I wouldn’t be criticizing their poor communication in here. Cars are supposed to be delivered at the end of this month, yet it’s remarkable that not a SINGLE person here with an order has received a production notification. There are only two possibilities: either people are keeping their mouths shut, or Lucid is once again missing the end-of-month deliveries as promised at the New York Event and simply going to pretend that this is normal and just continue to string people along. It's April 18th and they still haven't seemed to manage getting ONE car in a showroom (even though they're apparently "ready") other than NY (would love to be corrected on this). My primary concern with Lucid lies not in the quality of the cars but in their consistent overpromising and underdelivering on various aspects.
Like you, I was a very early Air owner and some scars run deep but to constantly compare the early Air issues and assuming the Gravity is going to be the same is a mistake. What I've seen in the demo ride, the software and the plethora of reviews is that all the "issues" being called out are minor and in line with what every other car manufacturer deals with. Seriously, 99% positive feedback and because of 1% negative we run with the "delay, delay, delay, until its perfect narrative"? No car would ever be released following that mantra and it's not smart business.
