Has anyone else here had to pay out of pocket for a TCU replacement? I am being told that because the 83 year old previous owner of my car didn't complete the updates within 30 days of it being offered that the warranty is VOID on the TCU.

My question... When an update becomes available there is a notification on the screen to update. In fact EVERY TIME YOU GET IN THE CAR AND TURN IT ON IT SHOWS THAT. So lets assume the 83 year old, who had completed every other update prior to one it was "stuck on" decided to just not update again (not sure why he would... but lets say that) wouldn't that nag to update still be on my car?

HIS FAULT.

OR...

Lets say the 83 year old did all the updates until the update that the car was stuck on and the TCU lost contact with Lucid and never told the man he had an update. So the 83 year old man just drove the car (The car only had 6800 miles on it when I bought it so he barely did that)... But the car never told him to update so he didnt...

NOT HIS FAULT

Either way, 75 days ago when I purchased my car and called Lucid to ask why it wont update and they said "because it is so far behind you need to take it to a service center to update it" Why wouldnt they have said, oh yeah and you will also be billed 1600.00 to fix it.

Just odd...

I called Lucid and to make things more interesting, the CSR that I spoke with said that he spoke with my service center because he said he didnt understand why they are saying the TCU is broken, because it is communicating with them they could see the car. The car is communicating with the APP. he said that the service center did not want to do repetitive updates because they were afraid it would break the TCU. He said that there are several updates needed in order to bring the car up to date and if they did that many in a row it may cause the TCU to fail so that is why I need to buy a new one because it will already have the most current UX on it.
It is a little eyebrow raising.

All this on a day I posted asking for you all to be positive about your Lucids! hahaha Sorry I am frustrated and needed to gripe.

I feel like if it were a warranty voiding, system critical update, it would just auto install, right?

This must be a mistake. I’ve never heard of a manufacturer refusing to try and fix their own car, in case they…break it? There has so be a misunderstanding.

hahaha my thought as well.... If it is required HOW COULD IT BE OPTIONAL TO INSTAL? Like wouldn't it force us to update?

Thank goodness we have the option... Just look what is happening to the single motor Pure folks that updated and now got the red screen of death?!? I am sure they will figure this out and hopefully not charge me.

I took the car there at the first appointment they had I originally made the appointment because my neighbor who worked for Lucid told me I had to do the computer upgrade in order to get the new UX 3.0. So I am doing that and a major service.

CCCv2 + a 2yr service costs would come to the $1600 ballpark... not clear to me how the TCU factors into the story (other than being told to replace it, which sounds like a miscommunication).

The other question I have is if the unit can still communicate with my application if the unit is still communicate with Lucid, if Lucid can still see the vehicle where it is. If the car can still stream, Tidal, Spotify download Maps and connect to Lucid enough to verify my username and password as an holder on the vehicle then how did they say that the TCU module is broken? Isn’t it doing everything that I was supposed to?

I am being billed 1600.00 for CCCv2 and service then another 1550 ish for the TCU…

This a bummer, and I an sorry for you. It is a little unclear about warranties which are really to the original purchaser from what I hear.

The drive train and battery 10-year one is different since, at least in CA (which also may follow elsewhere), they are part of the emissions system and our gov says they must be covered for whoever owns the car subsequently. (I learned this when I owned my Ford Hybrid and the battery was failing at 8 years.)

My car was way behind on updates so I performed about 5 in a row before going in, thank goodness. But, while in Service, they manually updated which I guess means they shouldered the risk of it damaging the car, right?

I do expect to write a pretty big check and actually am cool with that since I am getting back a very updated car. Ask me how I feel about that later, tho. :)

Warranties go with the car, not just for the original owner. This isn’t unique to Lucid or new to car ownership.

Lucid is saying they won’t cover it because the updates were not done on time… my biggest gripe is that lucid had ample time to let me know it wasn’t going to be covered…at no point was this discussed.

The part about updates breaking the systems is a bit alarming too, as a guy who’s Air just updated and is acting weird…

As a guy in the car biz for 30 years this is correct. The cars warranty is the cars warranty. My main problem is the failure to update was the main reason for the appointment in the first place.

This is part of the risk I guess with purchasing used…

A GT with 6800 miles hard loaded with every option for 53000.00 OTD…. Was a good deal…. 1500 more is only disappointing because there is a major lack of communication they have had the car for 30 days at this point I am just now finding this out.

Absolutely. Just a minor disappointment when you got a spectacular deal on a very special car! Glad you are keeping the right attitude...
