Suspension Clunk

Looking back on the service invoice it reads that they replaced the LH Front Damper Spring Assembly. I can provide a copy of the report if you like. The clunking noise was eliminated.

My new SA says its normal , need to ask my old SA.

My tech the first time I went in for it had the verbatim response as “It’s normal, I don’t hear anything that sounds abnormal”….i was like nope keep it and look at it…..

Just kidding - it’s being towed to a shop in Fort Worth where the remote techs will replace the woofer.

No getting the suspension clunk fixed for me I guess lol

Nope it’s actually going to be looked at for the 7th time July 8th for this issue along with a busted woofer - which doesn’t matter at this point because my lease is almost up.

Thank you for your quick response. I am expecting a call back from the Richmond Virginia Service Center with an appointment. It is a two hour drive for me, so not the most convenient. I will post my experiences once the visit is completed and hopefully, include information regarding resolution. By the way, when you experience the clunking, do you feel vibrations through to the steering wheel? As best as I can discern, I do not feel such vibrations, which may or may not help isolate the cause. Again, thank you.

looks like this is somewhat of an older thread but I just came across it and thought I would share my experience. I have had the clunk and rattle noise a few times and I'm trying to schedule what would be my third service appointment. Below is the summary from my last service center visit in February, hope it helps some of you. Something with the sway bar.

"Road tested vehicle over multiple types of roads and confirmed customer concern when going over un even road. Noise emitting from the front right area. Lifted the vehicle removed both front wheels an continued to inspect both front sway bar end links and found them torqued and ok. Removed both front sway bar end links and road tested the vehicle again and found no noise present driving over un even roads. Lifted the vehicle again and preloaded the front right suspension and confirmed noise from the front right sway bar bushing. Removed the front tub removed top service trim piece and inspected the front subframe and was ok. Inspection found both front sway bar bushing hardware not properly torqued causing rattle noise. Removed and replaced both front hardware bolts reinstalled everything in reverse order road tested once more and confirmed service is complete."

Judd, thank you very much for sharing the information that you provided. I spoke with the Service Technician who called me back yesterday. He explained that there is a nylon bushing that may not have been torqued correctly at the factory (my Air GT has 4,800 miles and was delivered to me in December of 2024). Based upon the information that you shared, it would seem that I am experiencing the same issue as you did and I am therefore hoping that by retorquing the nylon bushing, the clunking will disappear. My GT will be picked up next week and a loaner left for me. The Service Technician believes that the repair should not take more than a day; however, your experience of this matter still not being resolved, worries me. I will post an update post repair. Again thank you for your response.

I am still trying to get into service for the latest noise. This time it's not as prevalent but I want to address it before it gets worse. And, I have extreme issues with the sound system constantly not working but that's a whole other frustrating topic. I just read through the other past service records and apparently the first time they fixed a noise it had something to do with a break line. Any time I went up an incline like a driveway it would emit a loud popping sound. It was also from the front end/wheels and it took a couple of service calls for them to figure it out. If you are going to have your car serviced then you may as well have them check this as well. Here was their solution:

"After multiple attempts of manipulating the right front suspension area and compressing the shock and turning the wheel, found ABS plastic brake line
hose that's zip-tied to the reservoir to be loose and coming on contact with the frame rail and getting caught on the lip and once the lip catches the frame
rail a loud pop noise can be observed.
Removed abs plastic holding line and cut old zip tie out. Inspect and re-install plastic brake line holding and use new zip tie and make sure it is secure as
well as no longer making contact at this time."

I am having the same issue with my 2024 Air Pure... Metallic clunk / rattle from the driver's side front which sounds like a loose suspension component. Technicians at the Torrance service center could not replicate the issue, so I had to drive down to reproduce the problem in person (which I did). Will follow-up when I hear back from the Torrance service center later this week.

Thank you for your message. My issue, which "sounds" similar to the one that you are experiencing has been resolved. Hoping that the following is helpful to you, I am including in quotes, the Work Summary that was provided to me following my satisfactory repair:

"Work Summary

Concern: Customer states, there is a clunking noise from the front driver's side wheel when driving at low speeds. Also a rattle noise is heard.

Cause: Driver front sway bar end link nut was not torqued to specification

Corrections: Test drove vehicle and duplicated noise, sourced noise to be coming from the front driver suspension area, lifted vehicle up and inspected
suspension components, found driver front sway bar end link nut was not torqued to specification, replaced torqued sway bar end link nut to
specification, test drove vehicle again, found noise is no longer present
